ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
He had loved art since he was young. Through paintings, he created the world he wanted to see. A world of paradise, filled with happiness and delicate moments that didn’t exist in his reality. Each piece was filled with vibrant colors that connected everything to smiles.
This might had been one of his escapism methods. His status as the emperor’s illegitimate son and the nightly sound of his mother being abused by his father were enough to tarnish his young soul. The nobles called him a silly dreamer. A delusional illegitimate son and for some reason, his tyrant father liked to abuse his mother cruelly.
“Stop! Stop!! Please!! KYAAAAAAAAAAA!!!”
“…..Huh?”
“…”
“… Why aren’t you moving anymore?”
Then, he heard that his father had accidentally killed his mother. On the day of his mother’s funeral, he saw his brother wearing a strangely proud smile. He saw how the nobles looked at him in disdain. It was at this moment that his world started changing significantly.
The world wouldn’t forgive the weak. Humanity was nothing but a religious farce. Mercy, in essence, was a sin. Showing mercy to the weak went against the laws of nature. In a world of survival of the fittest, one had to kill first if they didn’t want to be killed. The canvas, once colored with sunlight and smiles, was now stained with shadows and blood.
He pondered meticulously. How could he inflict the maximum pain possible on someone? How to torture someone just enough so they would be tethering on the brink of death? How could he repaint everything from the ground up?
“Father, big brother…”
One day, while he was drawing the death of his father and brother, a demon arrived. This demon came to change his fate. He became the chosen one. He gained an overwhelming power. Though he had to lose a part of his soul in return, but the liberation from his status as a weakling made everything worthwhile.
“Did you sleep well last night?”
Now, two of his family members were weeping tears of blood from their black pupils. They laid in their coffins every night, writhing in nightmares. They kept shedding tears of blood to no end. They had been reduced into motionless dolls.
The Second Prince greeted them with a serene smile on his face. He lifted their eyelids to check for something. He then grimaced and sighed.
“Have you two burst the blood vessels in your eyes again…? Fufu~ I wonder how much pain you both are in…”
He would need to infuse them with life force again for them to regenerate the popped cells. Although he found this task tedious to do, but he actually enjoyed it. He kept them trapped in the illusion he created all day long, forcing them to endure pain beyond human limits all day long. Hence why it wouldn’t be a surprise for them to cry tears of blood. Every day, their blood vessels would burst, turning the color of their irises blood red.
“Revenge, huh? I no longer remember the purpose of my revenge anymore. The memories of my mother have long since faded to oblivion. I guess when a soul becomes thinner, the memories inside also start to decay and in return… The threshold for excitement increases. For now, just seeing you two crying tears of blood is enough to satisfy me, but who knows what will happen in the future… Fufu~”
The Crown Prince continued his soliloquy while holding his latest creation, the Mercurial Cube, in hand.
“But alas, survival of the fittest it is. The weak won’t be forgiven. Humanity is nothing but a foolish fallacy and mercy is the root of sins… Well then, the only thing you two can do is grieve for failing to become demons yourselves.”
Adolf thrusted the cubes into their bodies at the same time. Blood started spurting from their red eyes, reaching to Adolf’s cheek. Adolf wiped his cheek with his thumb and then he brought his thumb to his mouth, tasting his father’s blood.
“Not bad.”
He sneered before he turned his gaze to look down at the soldiers gathered in the room. The long staircase that separated the prince from them symbolized the hierarchical relationship between a ruler and his subjects. A single knight was kneeling in the center, followed by dozens of soldiers behind him. There were over hundreds of soldiers in that room and today, Adolf planned to use these mindless dolls to attack Odell, the capital of this nation.
“At this rate, we won’t have enough life force to continue mass producing the legion. We need to use the cubes to replenish our dwindling fresh life force. This attack will serve as a declaration of war against them…”
The demon in prophecy is me. Don’t be deceived by the fake demon. Quickly, come to me. Become my subordinate. Become one of the chosen.
“Do you think our plan will succeed, Goering?”
“Yes! I agree wholeheartedly, Your Highness!”
The experienced knight kneeling at the very front responded in a deep, robust voice. His name was Goering. His once brown irises had become deep red now. And… Not just his eyes.
“Are you all prepared to lay down your lives for the glory of the Empire?”
“”YES, SIR!””
The soldiers who once had yellow eyes, black eyes, green eyes, blue eyes… All of them had red eyes now. A perfectly uniform shade of red. They had become the Second Prince’s mindless puppet, completely under his mind control.
“Phew…”
Sighing, Adolf looked up at the ceiling. It had been a long journey. At first, he believed he sold his soul to the demon to get revenge on his mother. He dreamt of becoming powerful, to become the chosen one who would dominate everything in the future. But now… None of it mattered. The revenge didn’t hold any value to him anymore.
He simply wanted to see the world burn. He wanted to brandish his power as the strong one in this life and turn every citizen of the empire into a mindless puppet. He longed to watch all these puppets move according to his will. He wanted to see these puppets dancing uncouthly.
“Yo-Your Highness!!”
And then, at that moment…
“The fake demons are heading our way…!!”
“….Oh?”
The report from his subordinate provided just the kind of excitement he needed at this moment. The corner of Prince Adolf’s mouth curled up into a smirk and he began clapping.
“Very well… Fake Demon…”
Let’s see who the true demon is.
