Chapter 52: What if He Did All That So That He Could Violate You?

“Kai, there’s something I want to ask.”

“Yeah, what is it?”

“…Could it be that Alwyn is also one of them?”

“One of them?”

“…I mean the sisters who are being violated at that church.”

We were on our way to the church when Chloe asked me that question in a hushed voice. Turning my head to look at her, I could see that she was feeling quite glum. This didn’t come as a surprise though. Chloe might hate Kaltz, but she got along well with Brien and Alwyn.

Of course there was no way Chloe would believe that Alwyn used to be violated like a sex slave by these men. No sane person would believe that.

“No, it’s fine. As far as I know, she didn’t experience anything like that in the past and besides… Alwyn is special after all.”

“Special?”

“That girl is the most talented person in holy magic in the whole empire. Even though the church is filled with wicked people, it would’ve been a waste to just use her like a toy.”

“So, if she didn’t have the talent for holy magic….”

Instead of answering, I just continued progressing to the church with my cloak on. Based on the game’s storyline, Alywn didn’t have a dark past of anything. In fact, she grew up well and was a crucial character who would awaken her power as a saint around the final chapter. However, even in the game, Alwyn was oblivious to the true nature of the church. I wouldn’t be surprised if she did. After all, even I didn’t know much about the hidden facility in the basement of the church. I only recalled a part of the side quest and made an educated guess based on it. 

“…Disgusting.”

Nia, who was holding onto my hand, grimaced at the thought. Her anger was palpable even through the blindfold that she wore to hide her red eyes. Thinking about this logically, our next course of action might be a mistake. If we caused a commotion in the church, people would find out that we were the demon and Rielle could also face some of the backlash. 

However… I couldn’t possibly turn a blind eye on this. The fact that they could do these despicable deeds without any guilt pissed me off. I might need to kill a few of them to appease my anger. They must pay the price for trampling on those girls’ dignity and toying with their bodies. 

Above everything else, just like what Nia said, these people disgust me.

“Umm.. Kai?”

“Yeah?”

“Well…”

Unlike her usual self, Chloe glanced around nervously. She was hesitating. Seeing her reaction, I softly asked. 

“Perhaps… You’re worried about Alwyn?”

“….I knew it. You already knew what’s on my mind, huh?”

“Well, more or less. She’s your ex-comrade after all.”

“….Brien and Alwyn… The two of them are genuinely good people.”

Chloe sighed before she continued on. 

“Well, Brien is not a human. She’s an elf. Anyway, the main reason why I left that party was because of Kaltz. Other than Kaltz, I actually got along well with the rest of the party.”

“Yeah.”

“Especially Alwyn. She was always kind to me from the beginning to the end… This might be selfish of me, but I really want to help her.”

“….I see.”

“She’s pure, that’s why I think she deserves to know the truth more than anyone. No matter how hard those people try to deceive her, she will find out eventually anyway.”

“Well, I guess that’s true.”

Alwyn was bound to know about the true nature of the Pope, whether she liked it or not. After all, I planned on exposing the Pope’s true nature and the church’s dark secret to the citizens of the empire.

….The truth might be a tad too cruel for someone as sheltered as her, but there was nothing that could be done about it. She would learn the truth eventually anyway, so it would be better if she were to find out sooner rather than later. 

“Alright. That is, if Alwyn happens to be at the church.”

“Yeah. If Alwyn isn’t at the church, we’ll go attack the Crusader’s inn just like planned and rescue the girls in the basement.”

“But… Do you know where Alwyn is? My memory is pretty fuzzy…”

“Oh, that’s not a problem.”

Smiling bitterly, Chloe looked up at the sky as if she was tracing her old memories. 

“She said that when she’s at the church, she spends most of her time in the prayer room.”

The sky was slightly overcast with clouds.

“….Yo-You’re?!”

“Sssh. What if someone finds out?”

Chloe’s guess was correct. Alwyn was praying in the prayer room indeed. We were in an old wooden building, a bit away from the main church. This building had a lot of confessionals and prayer rooms. 

I put my index finger to my lips as I shushed Alwyn.

“Wh-Why the demons are here…?!”

“I used a simple mind manipulation magic on the guards. Don’t worry, I haven’t killed anyone… Yet.”

“…!!”

“Drop it.”

As soon as I finished speaking, Alwyn gritted her teeth and tried to attack us with magic. However, Nia removed her blindfold and raised her fist at Alwyn, stopping the healer dead in her tracks. 

“I won’t forgive you if you hurt Kai.”

“…”

“So please, don’t hurt Kai. I don’t want to hurt you.”

“…”

Finally regaining her composure, she bowed her head to apologize. 

Well, her reaction was understandable though. From her perspective, demons like us were the evil that should be eradicated for the sake of humanity. 

“Alwyn.”

“….Yes?”

“You came here because you want to know the truth, right?”

At the mention of ‘truth’, Alwyn widened her eyes. I continued calmly, lining up my next words.

“I will show it to you. The dark side of the church and the ugly truth of the Pope.”

“….U-Ugly?! His Holiness is not like that! He, he…”

“He took you in. He gave you, an orphan, a home. He taught you magic and raised you up. I’m not trying to deny that part of yourself, Alwyn.”

“….Ho-How did you know?”

“I have my ways. Anyway…”

I slightly trailed my words off before delivering the final words that would shock her core. 

“…What if he did all that so that he could violate you?”

“…………..Huh?”

“What if the reason why the Pope took you in was because you’re a girl and because you were cute?”

“…..”

Whether she couldn’t understand what I was trying to say or simply because she refused to understand, Alwyn only stared dumbfoundedly at me. Chloe, who was beside her, only looked downward. Chloe looked like she was in pain. Despite that, I still threw another decisive blow onto Alwyn.

“If you didn’t have the innate talent for holy magic, you would’ve been violated by now. Either by the Crusaders or by the Pope himself.”

“…………..What?”

“Come. I will show you the proof.”

Of course words alone wouldn’t convince her. To be honest, seeing Alwyn’s reaction now, I regretted saying all that to her. She didn’t do anything. She only stared blankly at me, as if someone had struck her hard in the head. 

This fact might had been too shocking for her, but there was no turning back at this point. 

“Chloe, I will leave Alwyn to you.”

“Okay.”

“Now then, let’s uncover the truth together, all four of us.”

Focusing the magic power swirling in my body, I stared at Alwyn. 

“The disgusting truth that goes against your every wish.”
