Chapter 48: You Can Kill Them

“Alright. That’s it for today.”

I extended my hand to Chloe, who was lying on the ground, clearly out of breath. Drenched in sweat, Chloe glanced at my face once before taking my offered hand and stood up.

“Haaaah~ I failed again today…”

“But you were faster than yesterday. I almost got hit by you today.”

“…..Are you teasing me? You dodged all my attacks effortlessly!”

“No, no! That’s not it! I’m trying to say that I can see your improvement with each passing day!”

“Geez…You’re so mean…”

Although Chloe was pursing her lips, but she quickly broke into a smile afterward. I had been training together with Chloe ever since she received the artifact from Zinnerman-san.

As an assassin, Chloe was not used to fighting someone head on. I then told Chloe that she just needed to overwhelm her opponent with speed. From then on, she suggested having a training session with me. She would try to stab me as fast as she could. Of course, with a small wooden dagger.

“Ugh… I’m so done with potions…”

Despite looking like she was about to cry, Chloe gingerly gulped down the blue potion I handed to her. This was something I had asked Rielle to prepare for us. Thanks to the sales of Power Elixirs, Rielle was able to support us even more than before. Just like Nia, she really spared no effort in helping us. It was no wonder why Nia called her a sugar mommy…. To be honest, Rielle’s eagerness to support me was a bit overwhelming, but oh well…

After emptying the potion, Chloe sat there and slowly closed her eyes. A moment of silence ensued between us and I stared at her intently all the while.

Chloe was already strong enough. After all, she was personally chosen to be part of the Hero party. She was undoubtedly a talented assassin. However, I wanted her to become even stronger. “Let’s go to the mansion’s main gate. It seems something is about to happen there.”

As we approached the mansion’s main gate, we saw five Crusaders arguing with Rielle and the mansion’s guards. 

Rielle looked furious. Her fists were clenched tight as she glared at the Crusaders. Her usual meek demeanor was nowhere to be seen, she looked really fierce here.

“I know you guys are the Crusaders, but aren’t you guys exploiting your position a bit too much?! Do you think you can trespass someone’s private property without permission?!”

“Wha-?! Shut up!! We are the messengers of God! Our actions are the will of God!! Those who obstruct our path are heretics who deserve to rot in hell!”

“What are you talking about?! Everyone! Get these people out of the mansion right now!”

Rielle’s yelled and one of the guards immediately stepped forward to shield Rielle. However…

“Heretics deserve the worst possible death!!”

“Huh…?! Wai-!! KYAAAAA!!!”

Suddenly, the Crusader thrusted his sword into the guard’s stomach. Blood splattered and Rielle screamed in horror. The Crusader stepped on the dead guard’s head and aimed his sword at Rielle.

“Ha! Perfect timing! You are just a wicked rebel who has sullied the sanctity of holy water! You’ve tarnished the church’s reputation! Heretics like you who do not serve God…. I shall push you to the depth of hell!!”

The Crusader swung his sword down at Rielle. I immediately ran as fast as I could, but then, Chloe’s artifact glowed in her palm and..

“GU-GUAHHHHH?!!?!?”

I immediately hugged Rielle and slid across the ground as the man’s decapitated wrist hovered midair. His wrist had been slashed so cleanly. The attack couldn’t be seen with normal human eyes. The knife couldn’t be seen with normal human eyes either. A perfect, clean cut. 

“A-Arghhh?!?! Wha-Wha-…?! Ugh-! Cough! Cough! Kuh-! Guahhh!!!”

Of course. The attack didn’t stop just at his wrist. His shoulder, his flank, his abdomen, arms, legs… Slashes and stab wounds appeared all over his body. The ground beneath him started to dye in crimson from the blood. The attack kept coming from places the Crusader couldn’t possibly see. 

Of course, the one behind this impossible scene was none but Chloe. This was Superior Cube’s unique skill, connecting space. With this skill, she could move the knives from a distance, literally tearing the man’s body to shreds.

“Ka-Kai…? Ah-! Wai-!”

“Sorry, but I think it’s best if you don’t see this. It can be a bit… Gruesome.”

I covered Rielle’s eyes with my hand and it didn’t take long before the man collapsed on the spot. Confusion was clearly etched on the faces of everyone present. 

“Wha-What?! What’s going on here?!”

“You… You…! You dare to oppose the Crusaders?! This sin… Both His Holiness and the empire will never-“

“Kai.”

Amidst the chaos, a young girl appeared. Gripping the knot tied behind her eyes, she stepped forward calmly toward the Crusaders. She turned her head at me and asked. 

“Can I kill them?”

“Yeah.”

She removed her blindfold. I looked straight at Nia’s crimson red eyes, the symbol of the demon and… I smirked. 

“You can kill them this time, Nia.”

Now, who will be the one getting thrown into the depth of hell? I guess it’s not a bad idea to make them understand who’s doing the pushing here.
