Chapter 35: Heavy Talk in the Middle of the Night

“…..So, are we going to talk here?”

After arriving at the slum, Chloe and I sighed as we looked at the inn we used to stay at, or at least, the remains of the said inn. 

Well, I already expected this outcome though. After all, just a few hours ago, monsters from the dungeon were rampaging in the slum. Though… It seemed the imperial army, likely summoned by Gebels, had cleaned up the monsters. Hence why, the slum didn’t get totally obliterated. We could still see people that had lost their homes huddled together throughout town. 

“Kai, over there.”

“Hm?”

Following the direction Nia pointed her finger at, I saw a soldier kicking a man like he was trash. Being called in the dead of night to the slum must’ve irritated that imperial soldier. 

“Kai, can I kill him?”

“….No, let’s not cause any more commotion today. We’re the one that’s going to get in trouble if we do that.”

Given that my moral consciousness was still trapped in my past life, I believed I should help the man lying on the roadside. However, causing more commotion here would only cause disadvantage for us. We had just killed Gebels, so if we also massacred the imperial army that was supposed to come helping the slum, my plan would get disrupted. I wanted to destroy this country from within. Ahh.. Right! There was a small dungeon in the form of a cave near the slums…

“Only I know the location of this secret spot. There’s no monsters and the entrance is quite spacious. You should be able to rest comfortably there. So? How about it? You wanted to talk, right?”

Chloe said confidently. A secret spot, huh… This girl… There was no way she knew the true nature of that cave.. RIght?

Well, whatever. Based on my memory of the game, there were no monsters on the surface and even if there were any monsters, we could just defeat it. 

“Yeah, you’re right. I could use a quiet place right now. Let’s go.”

We might attract unwanted attention from the imperial army if we stayed in the slum for too long. And so, we made our way into the forest while trying to be as discreet as possible and finally, we reached the cave Chloe had mentioned. 

The entrance leading to the underground dungeon was spacious enough, even through the monitor screen from my past life. However, the entrance looked so much larger now that I was seeing it in person. 

We both sat down on whatever spot we wanted. Since we were sitting near the mouth of the cave, we had a clear view of the night sky. The stars were shining brightly. 

“Ah, wait a moment.”

As if she had just remembered something, Chloe clapped her hands and stood up all of a sudden. She disappeared into the forest and returned a short while later with a few pieces of firewood. 

“Let’s say this is a routine of mine when I visit this place.”

Chloe said with a wry smile on her face. She then stacked the firewood and cast a basic magic spell. The fire ignited, making the atmosphere around us become cozy. 

After that, Chloe then sat down in front of me.

“Ah, right. How’s your wound, Chloe?”

“They’re all just shallow cuts. I’m fine. Just a bunch of small grazes.”

“No, no, even if they’re shallow, you get grazed dozens of times. It’s not ‘fine’. Come on, let me see.”

“Ah-! Wai-!”

Suddenly concerned about her wounds, I stood up and knelt beside Chloe. Despite her resistance, I grabbed her arm and lifted her sleeve, revealing countless shallow scratches on her body. Even though the wounds were shallow, they must’ve hurt quite a bit. Just why would she pretend to be tough. There was no need for her to bear it herself. 

Still, a girl’s body felt really soft, huh? Well… I never touched a girl’s body before after all…

“Chloe, stay still for a bit.”

“Ah…”

Using the healing magic I took from Alwyn earlier, I began to heal Chloe’s wound. 

What a relief. I was a bit worried there because my magic power was more suited for black magic. However, it turned out I could use holy magic just fine. With this, I didn’t need to worry about using other types of magic then. 

“Is this… Holy magic…? You… How did you-“

“This is my unique skill. One Who Stands at the Boundary or whatever.”

“Huh? Unique skill?”

“Well, I will explain everything later. For now, let me heal all your wounds first.”

“….Ni-Nia-san?! This-This isn’t what you’re thinking….!!”

“…I know.”

“Then can you please stop sulking?!”

“That… I can’t do. Humph.”

Pouting, Nia turned away from me. I stood there, flustered at Nia’s reaction. However, Chloe chuckled, finding this situation amusing. 

I didn’t notice this before, but Chloe… She laughed a lot. In the game, she stayed expressionless most of the time. She was more like the cool-type. I didn’t know she was actually the type that could laugh a lot like this. 

“Alright. I think that’s all for the arm. Let’s see… Ne-Next is…”

“Fufu~ Right~~ I have scratches on my legs, stomach and my sides too, you know?”

“Why did you have to say it like that?! Even though I was trying my best not to feel conscious of it…!”

“Hahaha! Don’t worry, don’t worry. I have potions with me anyway. Scratches like these can be healed with potions anyway~”

“If you have potions then you should’ve said so before I started healing you!”
