Chapter 20:The Danger Starts Moving

After talking about a lot of stuff with Chloe, I found myself trying to calm Nia down in our room in the inn. After all, I had broken my promise. I promised Nia I would only hold Chloe’s hand for 1 minute, but I ended up holding her hands for 5 minutes. Even though I didn’t do anything more than just holding hands, but Nia’s cheeks were puffing up like balloons. 

“I’m sorry… I’m sorry, Nia…. I was wrong…!”

“Hmmphhhhh…”

“But Nia, you know why I did it, right? You know about my unique skill, right?”

“Hmmphhhh….”

Assassins like Chloe had many useful skills. Those skills could be used in dungeons and of course in everyday life. Hence why, I tried to copy Chloe’s skill by using my unique skill ‘One Who Stands at the Boundary’. Nia should be able to understand why I had to hold her hands! However, for some reason, Nia kept glaring at me. She was emitting a dangerous aura that reminded me of her final boss self from my previous life.

“I don’t mind it, even if Kai cheats.”

I hesitated. I wasn’t sure if I should say it or not, but in the end I decided to say it. 

“….I’m sorry. I still want to help Chloe.”

I told her that loud and clear. For a brief moment, Nia had a complicated look on her face before she decided to close her eyes. Nia kept silent, seemingly pondering her options. 

And then, she grasped my hand that was stroking her head and brought my hand to her cheek. She leaned in, resting her soft cheek against my hand and slowly, she opened her eyes. 

“I understand. If Kai says so, I will help Chloe too.”

“Nia…”

“I… I don’t want to see Kai get sad.”

Seeing the depth of her feelings to me, I felt moved. After all, considering how obsessive she was with me, this decision mustn’t be an easy one. Still, since I felt a bit guilty, I told Nia. 

“Are you really okay with this? I mean, I’m thinking of making Chloe join our group. Well, if you don’t want that, of course I will throw that idea away.”

“No. If that’s what Kai wants then I don’t mind. I want to follow Kai’s wish. Kai is the most important person to me after all.

“Nia…”

“If Kai wants to help Chloe, then I will help her too. But…”

Nia’s face seemed to flush a little. She looked a bit embarrassed before she slowly gave my index finger a chaste kiss.

“About what I’m going to do from now on… First, like I said, I want to help Chloe. Will you help me too, Nia?”
