Chapter 17:Destined to Be Killed

After defeating the mid-boss of the dungeon, the Ancient Ghoul, we immediately returned to the city. Of course, we could’ve continued venturing deeper to defeat the boss of the dungeon, but we had to ensure that Chloe and her companions—the hero and his other party members, could return to the surface safe and sound. Besides, we needed to pay the guild for the dungeon entry tickets we took. Hence why, Nia and I immediately headed to the guild. 

“Thi-This…! A real magic stone of Ancient Ghoul?!”

“I told you, didn’t I?~ We’d bring one to you~”

The guild staff’s eyes widened in shock. 

I didn’t think you’d actually bring it…

That part was left unsaid, but it was clear he was thinking that from his face. Just how much of a villain he thought of us…

“Thank you for your hard work! We really appreciate it! But, well~ You, Shadow, are really on another level, huh! Wonderful!”

“Yeah, yeah. We’re also thankful for… Wait. Shadow? Huh? What are you talking about?”

“Well then, I will let the guild take care of this magic stone-“

Before the staff could take the magic stone away, I quickly placed my hand over it.

“Well, I did say it… I will bring you the magic stone from the mid-boss to pay for the dungeon tickets… But I never said I would hand it over to you just like that, right?”

The fear returned to the staff’s face. Surely he didn’t think we would exchange this magic stone for mere two dungeon tickets. How outrageous. 

I tapped the magic stone lightly and smiled gently. 

“The price for one entry ticket is 1 silver. This magic stone is worth 10 silver. In other words.. You owe us 8 silver.”

“What?! That’s not what we agreed upon!”

However, the voice I heard just now didn’t come from the staff member in front of me. It was from someone else, someone who I assumed was his superior, who appeared all of a sudden from the back. This man looked like the typical abusive superior. 

“We definitely gave you the entry tickets for free under the condition that you’d bring the magic stone to us! Of course, this magic stone belongs to the guild!”

“Hmmm~ Under what basis?”

“Wha-What?!”

“Staff-san, do you still remember the things written on the document that we filled out before receiving the entry ticket last time?”

“Ye-Yes! I remember them perfectly!”

“What was written there?”

“Umm… It said that after you defeat the mid-boss, you will bring the magic stone to the guild and pay the tickets…”

“Right?~ Old man, as you can see, there’s no mention of transferring the ownership of the magic stone to the guild.”

Almost immediately, the old man stopped moving. The anger in his face slowly dissipated into shock and soon, his body, which had been trembling from rage, started trembling from fear instead. Watching the consecutive transformation of his, Nia spoke up. 

“Kai, can I kill him?”

“Hmm~ Nia, wait a bit. He looks amusing.”

“…….T-Two children with red eyes…. AAAAAAHHH!!”

The old man’s face quickly turned pale and he suddenly fell to his knees. 

“Fo-Forgive me…! Ple-Please spare my life! Just my life! I beg of you!”

“…..Ugh! Even though I already told you to stop!”

“Kai, can I kill him?”

“Hmmmm~ What should we do?~ Nia? Do you think we should just kill him?”

“Hiiii…?!?! Fo-Forgive me! Forgive my foolishness!”

Well, making this shitty guild our enemy would be troublesome. I guess I should spare his life for now. 

“Ah, what a predicament~ Putting me aside, you called Nia worth less than garbage, didn’t you?~”

On the next evening, Nia and I met up with Chloe at the first floor of the inn. To be precise, at the corner table of the tavern. 

“Hey, Chloe. Over here, over here.”

“…You… What did you do this time?”

“Why? Because… Apparently the guild’s branch manager, Beckler, was running a marathon in the middle of the city, naked while oinking like a pig for some reason. The people in the town were throwing pebbles and trash at him because he had sullied their eyes.”

“Well~ I don’t know who that guy is, but I guess that guy was trying to recreate his youth~ Ah, feel free to order anything you want. Money is not an issue.”

“….How come you have money?”

“Well, who knows?~ Maybe because I saved someone’s life?~”

I smiled, but Chloe only narrowed her eyes, staring at me suspiciously. 

No~ Come on~ I really saved someone, though?~ You know, that guy… Beckler…? Yeah, that guy. I saved his life so I received a little compensation from the guild. I also paid the ticket fee properly. I haven’t done anything illegal, not at all~

“…Kai, you really are a villain.”

“…..You are so devilish.”

I had been agonizing whether to tell her or not for a whole night. In the end, I decided to tell her since this fact was really important, especially for her.

“You should leave the hero’s party as soon as possible.”
