I Got Fired as a Hero Today - Vol.1 Chapter 20: Arata, Going to Defeat the Goblins
It is said that the goblins have established a base in the mountains on the outskirts of the village.
Arata walked while gathering medicinal herbs and wild vegetables.
Chloe, Suzu, and Arata walk in that order.
They discovered a goblin nest after four o’clock, so they’re going to discuss what to do next.
Chloe plans to stay overnight before the subjugation.
Arata’s policy is to continue the subjugation as it is.
Since Suzu didn’t really understand, they decided to follow the leader’s policy.
Since goblins are nocturnal, they plan to defeat them early in the morning.
“You don’t need to be that cautious, right?”
“That’s why being careless is your worst enemy.”
They’re making a campfire with a large rock behind them.
Using rice, miso, and wild vegetables, Arata began cooking.
He cooked rice and made miso soup with mountain vegetables.
Additionally, he made tempura with wild vegetables. He seasoned it with salt.
“”Delicious.””
Chloe and Suzu munched away.
Delicious meals also affect morale.
He made tea after the meal.
“It’s going to be chilly tonight.”
Arata thought that he also had to consider buying a tent.

At that time, at the Adventurers’ Guild, Sarah was working as a receptionist.
She got home around five in the morning, so she ended up going to work around three in the afternoon.
Not very strict about being late.
It seems like they were busy yesterday.
She was praised by the receptionist’s colleague.
She wonders if Arata-san isn’t coming today? Sarah thinks to herself.
Since it had an impact, she ended up remembering it among many adventurers.
When she’s doing paperwork,
“Huh? This…?”
There was a notification that Arata-san was already out on a goblin subjugation mission.
It seems like they are organizing a party.
“That person hasn’t slept, have they?”
Again, it was Sarah, who was worried.

The sunset in the mountains is early.
Suzu fell asleep perhaps due to exhaustion.
She had her head resting on Arata’s shoulder.
Even though she was sweating, it smelled good.
Suzu’s breathing is the kind that makes him think of the expression “sleeping soundly.”
Chloe was sitting with her knees hugged, staring at the fire.
Arata beckoned Chloe.
Chloe waved her hands in refusal, but Arata reached out and took her hand.
To the left is Suzu. To the right is Chloe.
Holding the two with both hands, he rests.
Chloe quietly rested her head on Arata’s chest. She looked up at Arata’s face.
“As the knight commander, this is not a sight I can show my subordinates…”
“Do you dislike it?”
“I don’t dislike it…”
He wrapped the hand that was on Chloe’s shoulder around her waist and held her hand.
Chloe closes her eyes.
Arata uses the skills [All-Nighter] and [Night Vision].
He thought it was a skill to demonstrate that power as a lookout.
That night, they were not attacked by any monsters.
In the morning, the campfire had turned to embers, reducing its heat.
Adjust the firepower by adding firewood.
Arata kneads the dough and bakes it over the fire.
He fried an egg and made some coffee.
Chloe and Suzu woke up.
“I’m sorry, I fell asleep without keeping watch. This has never happened before… Maybe it’s because I slept next to Arata… mumble mumble…”
Chloe was ashamed of her disgraceful behavior. She was mumbling to herself again.
“Could it be, Arata, that you were keeping watch all night?”
Suzu came over.
“I thought it would be rude to wake you up since you were sleeping so soundly.”
“That’s not the issue, is it?”
Chloe also came over.
“Well, well.”
Saying that, he hands them the bread with the fried egg on it.
It was a peaceful breakfast that didn’t seem like they were about to head out for a subjugation.

After finishing the meal and packing up, they headed towards the goblin’s dwelling.
“There are no guards.”
A goblin nest without a lookout.
This means that it is not a very large group.
The goblin leader inside must also be dim-witted.
The backpack is heavy, so they hide it under a nearby tree.
They were able to enter the entrance smoothly.
Chloe lit the lantern.
It illuminates the inside.
“I’m going.”
Chloe turned around and confirmed everyone’s intentions.
Chloe, Arata, and Suzu will proceed in that order.
She proceeded with the lantern lit, but she couldn’t see any goblins.
She came out into a wide area inside the cave.
Broken wooden boxes, dirty rags, and food waste were scattered everywhere, emitting a foul odor.
When she entered the cave, she thought she smelled something, but this was the cause.
Suzu coughs and chokes.
After Chloe walked past, Arata stabbed the bundle of cloth with his sword.
“Yikes!”
A scream rises up.
Chloe looks back.
There was a goblin hiding inside.
Thanks to his skill [Night Vision], Arata could see the subtle movements of the cloth as the goblin inside it breathed.
A multitude of eyes, illuminated by the flickering firelight, appeared in the darkness.
“We’re surrounded.”
Chloe draws her sword.
“Did you have that much sense?”
Arata and Suzu also drew their swords.
“Suzu just needs to shoot the light balls.”
Arata gave those instructions.
“Huh? But that is…”
There is no physical attack power.
“It will serve as a deterrent. Besides, have you ever used a sword?”
“Not…”
“That’s fine for now.”
Chloe and Arata charged at the goblins.
The light ball of Suzu is fired.
It would probably appear as a threat to the goblins.
A few minutes later, all the goblin corpses that had just attacked were lying around.
They cut off the goblin’s ear and toss it into the burlap sack.
Because there are rewards for defeating them.
Since the one-handed sword was slippery with blood and oil, he wiped it with a rag that was lying around.
It smelled bad, so he tried not to touch it and wiped it instead.
Arata picks up the club that the goblin was using.
The next room was covered with a cloth, so he opened it with a club.
There was a bang, and the club shattered.
“Fireball?”
There was a goblin leader inside.
Because they use magic, should they call them Mage Goblins or Sorcerer Goblins?
If it can use magic, it can become a leader, right?
“Light ball.”
Arata unleashed about ten light projectiles.
“Yikes!”
The goblin was surprised even though there was no damage.
“Wind slide.”
He closed the distance in an instant as he thrust his one-handed sword into the goblin’s chest.
It died without even being able to make a sound.
In a moment of impulse, he pushed it against the wall.
When the goblin fell from the wall, Arata’s hair swayed in the wind.
“Hmm?”
When he approached the wall, there was a crack in it, and a draft was blowing through.
When he scraped a bit with his sword, a refreshing breeze different from the goblin-infested room’s stench flowed into the room.
“Chloe! Suzu!”
He called the two of them.
“What’s wrong?”
Chloe came in.
“It seems like there’s space ahead.”
It had turned into lime, and the wall was soft.
Arata picks up the fallen axe and starts hitting the wall, breaking it apart.
A vast, pitch-black space appeared.
“We’ve already defeated the goblins as planned, so isn’t that enough?”
Chloe says that from now on, they should report to the guild.
“How about we go ahead a bit?”
She wants to see Arata. As for Suzu…
“I might be interested too.”
She said.
Chloe had to make a decision as a leader.
“Alright, let’s go. However, if I judge it to be dangerous, we’ll turn back.”
They went outside once and brought back ropes and climbing pegs from their backpack.
Suzu will take care of it.
Chloe and Arata go ahead, and if a monster appears, they have no choice but to entrust their luggage to the rear guard to Suzu and fight.
“If you get tired, I’ll take over carrying the bags.”
“Yeah, I’m fine.”
Arata called out to Suzu.
And then, they stepped into the pitch-black darkness deep within the wall.
