I Got Dumped by My Childhood Friend Fiancée Who I Didn’t Even Like, I Thought I Could Finally Have a Peaceful School Life… But Then I Got Targeted by SS-Class Beautiful Young Ladies - Chapter 31
Chapter 31: [Someone I Don’t Know] The Person Standing on the Other Side of the Mirror Is Me… and Also Not Me
There was that one freak incident where my abs almost got eaten, but after that, I just went with the flow and let the polishing of myself continue pretty steadily.
While people picked out clothes that matched my body size, a few hairstylists surrounded me and cut my hair, then styled it with wax and spray.
Right after that finished, under the optometrist’s guidance, they measured my vision and I put in my very first pair of contacts. And the whole time all of this was happening, chanting from some monk—I still have no idea what sect—kept playing in the background nonstop.
Something about my appearance had definitely changed for sure… but right now, I had no clue what exactly it was.
When they were cutting my hair, I did ask once if I could check how I looked in the mirror, but they talked me into waiting until everything was perfectly finished so I could see the complete version… and that was that.
By the way, around the time my hair was done, the heiresses stopped looking at me altogether. They said they wanted to save the final reveal as a treat for themselves, then left the room. The plan was that once everything was ready, they’d get a call to come back.
So all that was left was waiting for the outfit they’d picked out for me—and right now, it just got delivered straight to my hands.
“Kirishima-sama. Sorry to have kept you waiting.”
Along with that super-polite voice came several pieces of clothing hanging on a rack. Every single one was the kind of thing I would’ve absolutely never worn up until today.
A black leather jacket, matching black slacks, a plain white T-shirt to layer underneath, and a sleek belt. Clean, no-waste coordination—definitely pro-level stuff.
But looking at it all… this one phrase kept popping up in my head no matter what.
‘Am I really gonna wear this?’ No matter how positively I tried to picture it, I couldn’t imagine it suiting me at all.
Then, almost like the coordinator who brought the clothes could read my mind, she spoke up.
“This is the ultimate total coordination, designed to make full use of your frame, bone structure, and raw potential, Kirishima-sama. It’s sure to… no, it will definitely look extremely good on you.”
She said it so casually, but honestly? I couldn’t bring myself to believe a single word.
Still, refusing to wear it wasn’t even an option from the start. So I took the clothes off the hanger, slipped them on, buttoned up, buckled the belt. The sizing was shockingly perfect—no weird pulls, no extra fabric hanging loose.
They still wouldn’t let me look in a mirror, but the coordinator gave a satisfied nod after seeing me, then slowly walked around behind me.
“Just a little tweak here… and it’s complete.”
With that, she finished the final adjustments.
The material and design of the clothes really were top-notch, no question—but as for me personally, I still couldn’t feel like there was any major change.
…Well, yeah. Makes sense. Just fixing my hair and ditching the glasses doesn’t magically turn me into someone else. Underneath it’s still the same old familiar me I’ve always known.
People don’t change that easily. If they could, complexes wouldn’t even exist.
But even so, I couldn’t keep the mega-wealthy heiresses waiting in the other room forever. I turned on my phone so the screen wouldn’t reflect my face, then called Rei-senpai.
I hadn’t been expecting anything from this so-called “polished” version of myself from the very beginning… so why? My hand gripping the phone was shaking like crazy for some reason.
“…Uh, sorry for the wait. Everything’s done now, so… um, you guys can come back… whenever.”
*
Multiple sets of footsteps approached from the other side of the door.
The light, steady rhythm of their steps sounded strangely loud right now.
This place had been packed with people just a little while ago, but the second things wrapped up, the whole crowd pulled back at once. In only a few minutes, the clubroom was dead quiet and empty again.
And then—the heavy door cracked open just a bit.
Rei-senpai’s voice slipped through the gap.
“…Yoichi? Can we come in?”
“…Yeah, go ahead.”
My own voice came out stiff and awkward—I could hear it myself.
As soon as I gave the okay, the clubroom door swung all the way open.
The three heiresses stepped inside cautiously, like they were testing the waters. Rei-senpai, Azusa, Charlotte. And behind them, something tall and narrow covered with a cloth came along too.
All their eyes locked onto me in an instant. And at that exact moment—time literally stopped. No exaggeration.
“…………”
Nobody said a word. Not even me.
A few seconds passed… or maybe way longer than that, honestly.
Rei-senpai’s eyes were wide open—she’d forgotten to blink. Azusa’s mouth hung half-open, frozen. Charlotte had both hands clenched tight against her chest for some reason.
…What kind of reaction is this?
At the very least, this didn’t feel like the good kind of silence.
I forced a self-mocking little smirk to my lips and tried to keep my tone light when I spoke.
“Ahaha… yeah, it’s… pretty weird, right?”
But nobody answered. Not a single sound.
Among them, Azusa was the first to snap out of it.
“…Huh? Who’re you?”
“No… it’s me…”
“Yeah, I know. I know, but… what the hell is this? Like, seriously insane… no, for real, this is crazy…”
Her vocabulary was basically falling apart. I had no idea what flavor of “crazy” she even meant.
Right after that, Rei-senpai sucked in a sharp breath.
“Uh… Yoichi… you’re ridiculously hot…”
“Hot…? What’s that even mean…?”
“Um, like… I can’t explain it right, but… anyway!! You’re so good-looking it’s actually kinda scary!! I knew it, but seriously, Yoichi, you’re straight-up handsome!!”
I thought I misheard at first, but then she said “handsome,” which pretty much means the same thing…
“…Me? Handsome…?”
The honest thought slipped out in a quiet murmur.
Charlotte was the next one to react.
“Amazing… this is amazing, Yoichi-kun! It’s like… way more than I imagined… um…”
She let her eyes drift around like she was searching for the right words, her cheeks flushing a little—then she looked straight at me again, speaking clearly this time, almost like she was trying to convince me.
“…I think you’re really handsome… seriously, you look so cool.”
There wasn’t a hint of joking or teasing in her face.
Just pure—no, way too pure—words from all three of them.
But even then, the skeptical part of me reflexively spat out a denial.
“N-no… that’s way too much. It’s probably just the vibe—”
“—It ain’t the vibe.”
Azusa cut my negativity off instantly.
Then she dragged over the tall thing covered in cloth and positioned it right in front of me.
“If you’re gonna doubt it that much, see for yourself. Here.”
With that, she yanked the cloth off.
What she’d brought was a tall, polished full-length mirror. The second it was uncovered—my eyes met the gaze of someone I didn’t recognize filling the entire reflection.
“…!”
