Chapter 8: Secret Training

Surprised from being admitted to the lowest class, I asked back subconsciously. 

The teacher actually looked pleased to hear my question.

“That’s right! You scored the perfect score for the practical test. I praise you for that but….! What do you think about your written exam?!”

“Written exam? I believe I answered all the questions properly.”

“Is that so? You answered them properly, you say?”

The teacher pressed his hand to his temple, seemingly disappointed at me. He then brought a piece of paper to me. It must be the answer sheet I had filled out. 

“What do you mean by π is 3.14159?! Are you kidding me?! It’s 3.15!! I guess you don’t even know what common knowledge is.”

“No-no… π is an irrational number so it’s not 3.15….”

“What nonsense are you spouting now?! I don’t care where you studied before but π is 3.15! Your answers in other subjects were all wrong too! Your common knowledge is skewed! That’s why you will need to study hard in the bottom class so you can get that common knowledge ingrained in your brain!”

The teacher who was clearly looking down on me adjusted his glasses. 

Before my reincarnation into this world, I had lived in Japan, a land brimming with advanced technology. I was fortunate to be born there because I was able to absorb the entirety of the knowledge accumulated by great minds over thousands of years from all over the world.

So for someone like me to get all the questions wrong… Well, I guess it’s not a surprise. As I’ve mentioned before, the academic level in this world is only at junior high school in Japan so it’s only natural that my answers were wrong in their eyes. 

But still, being told so directly to my face felt really discouraging. 

“Practical skills are important in Central Magic School but learning the basic theory is also extremely important! That’s why, students with imbalanced abilities like you are automatically placed in the lowest class!”

At Fibel Family Residence

By the time I arrived at the Fibel family’s residence, it was already night time. After suffering from a mental anguish, I saw my little sister waiting for me to start our daily training. 

My daily routine usually consists of cooking for Rina in our dust-covered, dilapidated home. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that I would end up teaching Rina and Elena-sama in such a magnificent house like this one.

I thought to myself while following Hannah-san from behind. This purple haired maid was guiding me toward Keltz-sama’s office. 

“Master, Kanato-sama has returned from school.”

“Let him in.”

“Understood.”

Hannah-san carefully opened the door and signaled me to go inside with her eyes. 

I nodded and entered the room.

“Hm. Thank you for coming. So, how was it? Your first day at Central Magic School?”

“We-Well… That’s…”

“Your face doesn’t look so good. Tell me what happened. Something must’ve happened, right?”

Keltz-sama directed his serious gaze to me. 

It was as if he already knew what had happened to me. Indeed. As expected from a duke. I was truly grateful Keltz-sama wasn’t my enemy.

And so, I told everything to Keltz-sama. Of course, I didn’t expect him to believe I was a reincarnator so I told him I genuinely believed my answer was correct. I didn’t expect all of my answers would be wrong. 

To all the great minds and scholars of the world in my past life…. I apologize. You guys have made remarkable discoveries in mathematics and science but alas, this world is not ready for your knowledge yet… I truly apologize. I am a sinner but… I don’t have any other choice. 

“I see. So that’s what happened.”

“Yes.”

“So there’s a stupid knight who tried to kill Kanato-kun at Central Magic School. If so, sooner or later, the school reputation is going to get ruined because of him. Alright. I will immediately strip this so-called knight from his title and turn his existence into someone who will be despised by all, including the commoners.”

“N-No! There’s no need to go that far!”

“Hm. I thought you’d say that.”

“Huh?”

Keltz-sama’s eyes narrowed into a smile. 

“He’s not worthy enough for me to take action against. Nor is he for Kanato-kun.”

He said with a tone that sounded like he was merely trying to test me.

I knew it. He’s way too sharp-witted. 

“But Kanato-kun, are you really fine with belonging to the lowest class? If you’d like, I can gather up the teachers at Central Magic School and have a discussion for your classification.”

“I’m fine with it! Well, I was a little disappointed at first but now that I think about it, being in the lowest class won’t make me stand out and I can support Rina better in this way so really, I’m really fine with it.”

“What a strange guy you are.”

“Me?”

Confused because he suddenly called me strange out of the blue like that, I slightly tilted my head to the side. 

“You are strong enough to defeat my daughter, who’s revered as the War Princess, so why do you want to hide your true potential?”

“Well, about that….”

I knew Keltz-sama would’ve brought this topic up sooner or later but I didn’t expect him to say it now. Things were proceeding a bit too fast. 

I just wanted to take it easy in this life because I had died from overwork in my previous life. However, there was no way I could tell him this. 

“Well… I don’t really have the ambition to achieve great success in life… For me, as long as my little sister and parents are happy, that’s already more than enough.”

I said so with a bitter smile on my face and Keltz-sama’s cheeks immediately relaxed into a gentle smile. He slowly placed his hand on my shoulder as he said,

“Of course. Making sure your family is family is very important. However, allow me to tell you one more thing.”

“……..”

“Fate won’t leave strong people alone. Just like how our paths crossed like this, you will have more fateful encounters in the future.”

“Well, I don’t really think I’m strong or anything like that. I’m a complete newbie.”

“Hahaha! I can’t wait to have deep and meaningful conversations with you one day.”

Keltz-sama said while looking straight into my eyes and nodded, seemingly satisfied with my response. 

Why does he look so pleased with me….? Ah, my slow life…. Where have you gone?

“Haa… Haa… Onii-shama…. I can’t go on anymore…”

“I… I lost again…. To think I… Lost against Rina’s big brother…. Ugh-!”

“Let’s end today’s training here.”

After my conversation with Keltz-sama, I had dinner together with my little sister in the luxurious guest room of the Fibel family. Then, I decided to invite Elena-sama to our usual training session. Not only would this arrangement be more efficient but training alongside someone stronger like Elena-sama might allow my little sister to improve more quickly. 

Right now, Rina and Elena-sama were completely exhausted. They were panting heavily, obviously unable to continue the match.

Feeling a bit bad for pushing them too far, I handed the two of them a water bottle made from leather. 

Rina sat up and gulped down the water in one go before she said with a satisfied expression on her face,

“Pwah!! Onii-sama, it’s about time for us to head home! Because… We need to do that, after all.”

“That?”

Not sure what my little sister was talking about, I prompted her to explain more with my gaze. 

Rina started fidgeting, seemingly embarrassed. 

“That, you know… The thing that’s absolutely necessary to do to maintain my strength…”

“Strength… Maintain…. Ah, that. How about if we do that here today? Separately, of course. I already received permission to do that here.”

“Onii-sama….. What are you talking about? That is an important pillar of support for my mental state. If I skip that even for a day, I will fall apart.”

Oi, why are you suddenly staring at me with those yandere eyes? Rina, your eyes are purple so when you go yandere, your eyes look even scarier, you know?

Sighing exasperatedly, I was about to say goodbye to Elena-sama when suddenly, she quickly sat up and approached me. 

Her blue eyes gleamed as she stared intently at me. 

“I knew it! You guys have a secret up your sleeves after all!”

“Huh?”

“There must be some sort of secret training that allows Rina to have exceptional talent among the first-year students even though she’s a commoner. My suspicions were correct after all! Rina’s brother, please allow me to partake in that secret training as well!”

“Wa-Wait! Elena-sama! Please calm down! I understand your feelings but I’m afraid I can let you in on that.”

“Why?? Why is it okay for Rina but I can’t??”

“We-Well, it’s….”

“I’m willing to do anything to become stronger. I want you to teach me that, whatever it may be.”

“….”

Elena-sama pressed forward, showing no sign of giving up. Thanks to our close distance, I could smell the sweet scent of Elena-sama’s breath. The sweet smell mixed with her sweat and pheromones, tickling my nostrils and passed through my whole body. 

Although she was still wearing full armor gear, she looked so beautiful when she was this close. I was left a bit speechless at her beauty.

Fortunately, my little sister stepped in to help me. 

“Elena-sama is the eldest daughter of a duke. If she insists this much, I suppose we don’t have any other choice but to comply. However, I personally don’t really recommend that for you.”

“I don’t mind at all! As long as it can help me grow, anything is a small price to pay!”

Wrapped in nothing but a flimsy towel, we were soaking in the large bathtub belonging to the Fibel family. 

Of course, I desperately tried to make Elena-sama change her mind but… She was very persistent. 

I wonder what’s going to happen to us from here on….
