Chapter 7:Exams and a Knight

Thanks to Keltz-sama’s thorough preparations, I was quickly scheduled for an interview. And due to Keltz-sama’s support, the interviewer didn’t ask me anything strange. In fact, the interviewer seemed wary of me. 

Well, his reaction was not surprising. Even though me and my little sister were commoners, we were able to have the chance to study in Central Magic School, the most prestigious school in the whole kingdom. 

Commoners working as janitors, dorm manager, chefs and other workers were allowed to stay in the school but the students needed to at least come from a count family to even have a chance of being accepted. 

Once the interview was over, I would move on immediately to the written exam. 

Well, because of Keltz-sama’s interference, it was safe to say I would definitely pass this exam. However, they still had other tests to evaluate my ability.

But…

“This is way too easy….”

As I had mentioned before, the academic level of this world was around middle school level compared to Japan. For someone like me, who retained the memories of my previous life as a cram school teacher, this kind of exam was a piece of cake. 

“In fact…. Prove that the value of π is 3.15…. The test question itself is already wrong to begin with.”

I chuckled wryly as I wrote the answer to the questions. 

After the written exam, next up was the practical exam.

For the practical exam, I had to fight against the school’s knight. The knight standing before me in the arena of the school seemed to be a staff member rather than a senior student. 

However, there was one particular thing that bothered me. 

This guy… He’s glaring at me with so much hostility…

“Hoo… So you’re Rina’s big brother?”

“That’s right.”

“Don’t get carried away. Remember, you’re just a commoner.”

The knight said. He was clearly looking down on me. 

He was pretty rude to me even though I was certain this was our first meeting. 

However, it didn’t take long for me to understand the reason behind his hostility toward me. 

“That scar on your neck…. Could it be…”

“I TOLD YOU NOT TO GET COCKY! She was just lucky!! And I will prove it today!!”

“….”

Who was the person that left a permanent scar on the enraged knight’s neck? Of course that person was none but my little sister. 

One year ago, he lost against my little sister during the practical exam of the school entrance test and he went on a rampage because of that. Needless to say, not only he lost again to Rina but he even had a permanent scar etched on his neck.

In other words, this guy had a bone to pick against us.

The person who served as the referee of this match looked at me before he yelled…

“LET’S BEGIN!!”

As soon as the match started, the knight came rushing with his sword pointed to me. Of course, his weapon wasn’t sharp enough to kill anyone but getting hit by that would’ve hurt a lot. 

As expected from a knight of the Central Magic Academy. 

Not only did he have good form but above everything else, the murderous intent he had for me was tremendous. 

His gaze was practically saying,“BECAUSE OF YOUR LITTLE SISTER, I’VE BEEN MOCKED AS A KNIGHT WHO LOST TO A COMMONER!!”.

The knight swung his sword furiously. I could hear the sound of his sword cutting through the wind. Every time I dodged his attack, the knight’s face twisted in anger.

Not planning on giving me any opening, the knight chanted under his breath. 

“Speed Up!”

Suddenly, the knight’s physical abilities increased sharply. His movements became twice as fast.

“-!!”

Because of the sudden increase in the knight’s attack speed, I decided to keep my distance for now.

“Ahahaha….! You commoners should know your place! I will make you pay for the sin of injuring my neck!!”

That was definitely a hate speech. The knight was showing his discrimination blatantly but the examiners and referee were being strangely quiet. In fact, the examiners were even glaring at me.

Even though I had Keltz-sama backing me, in the end, the people here couldn’t change their mindset that quickly. The discrimination against commoners was already deeply ingrained in their mind. 

The knights were breathing heavily. However, he was still laughing condescendingly. It seemed the mere thought of exacting his revenge against a commoner was enough to bring him the utmost pleasure. 

The unpleasant mood in the arena was tangible.

The officials in this school are testing me…

After a small moment of respite, the knight came charging again. He thrusted his sword toward my neck. If I were to be hit by his sword at his current speed, I could possibly die. 

And so, I grabbed his sword barehanded. 

“Wha-What?! You caught it barehanded?!”

Without missing a beat, I kicked his stomach. 

“UWAGHHHH-!!”

The knight was sent flying about 100 meters away. He was having a coughing fit as he was clutching to his stomach. 

“Darn it!!! Argh-! Cough! Cough!!! I will kill you!!! Someone like me, who finished my study in the Royal Knights with good results…. Getting defeated by a commoner like you…. ARGHHHHH!!!”

Enraged, the knight threw his current sword away and summoned a new one with magic. The new sword he summoned was undoubtedly meant to kill me. The sharpness of this new sword was on a different level. 

He aimed his sword directly to my neck. 

This guy had lost to Rina. In that case, there shouldn’t be any problem for me to win against him too since I was Rina’s older brother. 

However…

“THE MATCH IS OVER!! A match with the purpose of causing harm to the other party is strictly prohibited as per according to the rules of Central Magic School. Therefore, Kanato is the winner of this match!”

Unable to accept the referee’s decision, the knight refused to stop. 

“DARN IT!!!!! DIE!!!”

He kept charging toward me. 

I chanted softly under my breath. 

“Shotgun….”

Immediately, a modified shotgun appeared in front of me. I took it and aimed it at the knight and fired the round. 

The knight got thrown aback about 200 meters away this time and lost his consciousness.

And so, I received the perfect score for the practical exam. The interviewers and the other school officials also apologized to me. It seemed the officials were wary of me because of Keltz-sama. 

Now that I had finished all of the exams, I waited for my result in the staff room. I was waiting patiently, sitting on the sofa when a teacher came in. The teacher gave off the feeling of someone very pompous. 

He then sat across from me. 

“Kanato-kun, the results are out.”

“Ye-Yes.”

I guess he’s going to tell me which class I will be assigned to. I put on some effort during the test because I don’t want to embarrass Rina. I aimed to get into the top class so I can get in the same class as Elena-sama but getting into the advanced class is fine by me too. 

I thought to myself as I stared at the teacher. Suddenly, he pointed his finger at me. He stood up and looked down at me, both figuratively and literally.

“You’re in the lowest class!!”

“Huh?”
