A few days had passed since that incident. So far, I hadn’t heard anything from Keltz-sama or Elena-sama so it seemed our relationship had naturally come to end just like that. 

Exactly like what I wished for. 

After all, I only have one goal in life. I want to live a slow life.

After several hours of fighting, I had defeated goblins, slimes, wolves, giant plants and giant boars. None of them stood a chance against my weapon.

Today, I brought plenty of Giant Boar meat to make a pork cutlet. I believed this pork cutlet wouldn’t disappear in an instant just like the Emperor Water Buffalo meat I had defeated the other day.

My little sister appeared from behind the maid. Seeing the troubled expression on my face, she chuckled.

“My apologies for inviting you guys to my humble abode…”

I bowed my head but then, Keltz-sama handed me something from the inner pocket of his coat. He had a smug look on his face as he did so. 

“Here. I want you to have this.”

“Huh?”

I took it out of reflex and upon examining it, it seemed to be a piece of paper with a very intricate pattern and the insignia of the Fibel family.

“Huh? This is… What is this?”

“It’s a blank cheque.”

“A blank cheque?”

“Yes. You can write any number in the blank part and our family will be responsible to pay the amount written in the cheque.”

“Se-Seriously…?”

My mouth was gaping open from the shock. 

With this, I wouldn’t need to worry about Rina’s tuition fees and we could say goodbye to this dusty, rundown house.

My hands began to tremble. 

However…

“I’m sorry but I can’t accept it.”

I politely declined and gave the blank cheque back to Keltz-sama. 

“AHAHAHAHA! Kanato-kun, just how much longer are you going to test me for?”

“Huh?”

“Kanato-kun, are you perhaps… Do you wish to have this whole kingdom instead?”

“N-No! What are you talking about?!”

“Kanato-kun, if there’s something you want, feel free to ask.”

“Or are you trying to make me look like a greedy and despicable nobleman who only takes and never gives anything in return like a lowly thief? For someone of our standing, that punishment is worse than death.”

Keltz-sama definitely didn’t have any intention to back down here. 

“Rina’s big brother, I wish you can be more honest with us. You deserve something in return for the things you’ve done. I shall personally make sure you’ll be able to receive your deserved compensation.”

“Onii-sama…”

Everyone was staring at me. 

Well, I guess it’s alright to be honest with them….

“I need money to pay for Rina’s tuition fees. However, because of my status… There are limits that I can’t cross no matter how hard I try.”

“The Fibel family will support you, so I suggest enrolling in Central Magic School right away. If you do that, we will cover both your tuition and Lina’s.”

While trying to calm down my little sister who had gotten so excited, I looked at Keltz-sama. He then continued on. 

“But that’s not all. I want you to teach my daughter after school, just like what you do with Rina. Of course, I will compensate you generously for your service.”

“Huh?! But I’m a complete beginner! I never taught anyone but my little sister. Is that okay with you?”

“You defeated my daughter and showed your overwhelming strength. What more needs to be said?”

With my mouth still half-open, I looked at Elena-sama. 

The girl fidgeted, seemingly shy before she said…

“Rina’s brother, if you become my mentor…. I’m sure I can become stronger. I want to have a match with you again. I have a feeling it has to be you. My heart believes only you can help me to become stronger.”

I remained silent and the maid slowly placed her hand on Rina’s shoulder before she added a follow-up. 

“Your leadership must be amazing since you’re able to help a commoner like Rina to enter the Central Magic School with flying scores. There must be some sort of secret training that we don’t know about…”

Then Rina gracefully answered her question. 

“We’re just having mock battles like normal…. Eating delicious food… Nothing much, really…Ah! There is something! Every night, my Onii-sama and I take a ba-…-h!!!”

I quickly covered Rina’s mouth at the speed of light. 

“Ahahahaha!! Keltz-sama! I accept your conditions!”

“Hm. Very well. Let’s proceed with your enrollment process immediately.”

“Don’t you think you’re moving a bit too fast though….?”

“It’s better to finish the job as soon as possible.”

As expected from a duke. He’s not leaving me any opening to escape. 

While I was wallowing in despair, Elena-sama muttered something under her breath. I couldn’t hear her but for some reason, she kept sending meaningful glances at me. 

“Bat-? So that means if I do this bat- thing with Rina’s brother every night, I can become even stronger too?”
