The moment I entered her room, the guard-like person closed the door behind me. 

The furniture in Selene-sama’s room really befit her status as a royalty.

The floor was covered in a persian-like carpet with intricate designs. The furniture was of the highest quality. Plenty of expensive cosmetics and clothes around here, giving off the impression that Selene-sama was indeed a young lady befitting of her age. 

She had a different personality from both Rina and Elena-sama.

“So? What can I do for you?”

I asked calmly while Selene-sama leaned against the desk. She gave me a sidelong glance. It seemed she wanted to hide the sad expression she had shown earlier. 

“Fufu~ Kanato-san, you’re the first man to ever visit my room, you know.”

“Harry never came before?”

“No, never.”

“Hmm… Even though he’s your former fiancé…”

“As a princess, there are many things that I must protect.”

No, then why did her expression suddenly become seductively sexy? I mean, the things she needed to protect…. What did she mean by that?

“Is it really alright for me to come inside?”

Interrupting me mid-sentence, Selene-sama quickly put the tea leaves in an expensive-looking teapot on the desk. It seemed the teapot was enchanted by magic. 

Her actions were so clumsy and awkward. It was clear to see that she wasn’t accustomed to making tea on her own. 

Eventually, she managed to pour the tea into a cup, albeit she still looked very nervous.

“Umm… Ahh! It’s spilling out…”

Selene-sama was staring intently at me, causing her to pour the tea until the tea overflowed from the cup. 

“He-Here you go!”

Her action was not something imaginedable for a princess of a kingdom. A princess, offering tea to a commoner. Not to mention, the said commoner was someone who could use magic, an existence that the noble of this country despised the most. 

She quickly poured tea into her own cup and took a sip. 

“There’s no poison in it. Besides, even if I poisoned it, I’m sure you’d notice it right away.”

As per her recommendation, I took a sip of the tea. The fragrant aroma wafted through my nose and then, Selene-sama started speaking again. 

“Do you want some dessert? I will have the chef bring us some.”

“Umm…”

“If there’s anything else you want, feel free to tell me!”

“Umm, it’s…”

“I’ve also prepared a gift for Rina-chan. Please take it with you when you leave…”

“Please stop. I don’t need any of that.”

She was behaving in a different way than usual. 

“What do you want to talk with me about? Please, tell me.”

I asked in a slightly louder voice, sounding a bit irritated which in turn caused Selena-sama to lower her head. She looked anxious. 

I waited for a while and then, in a trembling voice, she spoke. 

“Kanato-san, there’s something I need to ask from you…”

“Ask?”

“Please… Please, become my personal knight and protect me…”

Gingerly, she lifted her head to stare at me. Her red eyes were wet from unshed tears. Her expression was as poignant as it was when I first saw her today. 

“Two days ago, someone that we suspected to be from Genesis, attacked us again.”

“Again?!”

“Yes… It wasn’t someone as strong as Alan so we managed to survive somehow. But… We don’t know when strong individuals like Alan or that young boy from before may show up to attack us again. 

I see. So she’s feeling scared. Coming to realize about Harry’s true nature and the fact that her life is in danger are adding more pressure to her. Her reaction is understandable. There’s no way she can remain sane in these situations. 

“Please. I know you’ve been so helpful to us with the Genesis situation and… I’m truly sorry but please, please protect me. Just protecting me in the usual way you do is not enough. I need you to stay by my side. More so than ever. Please, please become my personal knight. Please protect me like how you protect Elena-san and Rina-chan….” 

Putting her hands together, she begged me. Her expression was genuine. However, I already had my answer. 

“I refuse.”

“Huh?”

“I can’t become your personal knight.”

“Why… You promised Rhea-oneesama, didn’t you? You said you would protect us…”

“Yes, I did.”

“Then why…. If it’s money you want, then I can give you as much as you want!”

“Selene-sama.”

“If I were to become your personal knight… Then who would protect Rina?”

“Rina was almost harmed by your ex-fiancé and his compliance.  By becoming your side, I would need to stay in the royal palace, right? If I suddenly disappeared from her side to protect you, can you imagine what Rina would feel?”

I said before preparing to leave the room.

“Please let me join Five Stars.”

Her voice was too alluring for me to handle so much so that I had to step back and looked at her face properly.

This time, she finally returned to her usual self. 

“I can’t make that decision on my own. I need to ask the others too..”

“Right… Then I will stay at Fibel’s residence for a while. Let’s discuss this with the other members of the Five Stars.”
