Chapter 3: The Frightening Beef Bowl and the Battle-Hungry Female Knight

“A match?”

“That’s right. Not only Rina’s brother is smart enough to get Rina into the Central Magic School but you’re also strong enough to defeat King Octopus and Emperor Water Buffalo.”

“….I never said anything about King Octopus though.”

When I entered the house, I was about to leave again so I wouldn’t bother Rina and her guests but suddenly, Elena-sama said she had something she wanted to talk about with me. Her eyes lit up as she asked to have a match with me. 

A request from the eldest daughter of the strongest ducal family in the kingdom. If I hesitated by saying something like,”That’s a bit….” Or if I dared to refuse her…. That would be the end of me.

Surprised, I twitched but my little sister also sided with Elena-sama.

“That’s great! Tomorrow is our day off and we don’t have anything in plan!”

Rina exclaimed excitedly while glancing at me.

I stared at Rina, confused. She then suddenly reached into her bag and pulled out something. 

It was an ivory-white statue that looked like me.

“I made this during art class today! A gentleman from a certain count’s family said he’d buy this for 10 gold coins.”

“Yes!”

The two of them rode on their own magnificent houses and slowly trotted away from the rundown house.

They had never eaten beef bowls before in their whole lives. 

Of course, they refused the kind offer at first but thanks to Rina’s enthusiasm in explaining Kanato’s cooking skill in great detail, they decided to give it a try. 

At first, they were wary when Kanato first served the dish. The dish looked dubious but the moment their noses caught a whiff of the exquisite aroma emanating from the bowl, their mouths watered uncontrollably. 

Before eating something made by a stranger, they should’ve confirmed whether the food was poisoned first or not. However, Kanato reassured them with a straight face. 

“You don’t need to worry about that.”

Feeling overwhelmed from his pure, innocent eyes that showed no sign of deceit at all, the maid took the first bite and after deemed the food was safe, Elena also followed suit. 

The meat that Kanato used itself was one of the best beef anyone could get. The combination of Emperor Water Buffalo meat and the rich soy sauce hit Elena straight in the gut. 

Elena looked like she had received a divine revelation from god.

The two of them devoured their plate at an incredible speed. By the time they realized it, they had already asked for another serving, and another and another until all Emperor Water Buffalo meat that Kanato had brought with him was all gone. 

“Unbelievable… To think there’s something that delicious in this world…”

“I agree….”

“Tomorrow, Rina and her brother are coming to our residence. We will have to pay their generosity for the beef bowl.”

“Absolutely. I’m sure Master, who is quite the gourmet himself, will also find the beef bowl satisfactory.”

“Certainly. No, I’m sure Papa will definitely love it!”

The two of them were basking in the afterglow of the delicious meal while talking about the terrifying beef bowl when the maid suddenly asked Elena with a serious expression on her face. 

“By the way, Elena-sama, what do you think of that man?”

“Rina’s brother…”

The two of them sighed in wonder as they remembered their interaction with Kanato. 

The maid then smiled fondly as she continued on.

“However, what if all of those were just meticulously calculated acts from his side to gain something from you. What would you feel about it, Elena-sama?”

“Hmm… Indeed. We can’t cross the possibility that he might be a very wicked man who’s good at tricking people. After all, he’s the one that raised Rina. It’s highly likely he’s deliberately acting in a way that could make us lose our guard without arousing our suspicion. Maybe everything is all part of his plan, all for his own gain…”

“Fufu~ That man is definitely the most exceptional commoner I’ve ever met but he still can’t deceive my eyes.”

“Yeah, that’s right. This is why I want to test it. I want to know how strong Rina’s brother is.”

“He is a commoner though. May I advise you to go easy on him?”

The maid sighed.
