Chapter 23: Summoned by the Student Council President

Thanks to Rina’s healing magic and Luna-sama’s help, the nobles with ruptured eardrums and Geese were still alive. However, they hadn’t returned to school yet since they still hadn’t fully recovered.

“The people from the top class who went to fight the Red Dragon yesterday are not here today!”

“What on earth could’ve happened?”

“Besides, didn’t that commoner and Jeff-sama also go there yesterday?”

“Why is the party with commoners among their members showing up to school instead?”

“Should we ask?”

“No way. I’m not going to talk with a commoner.”

“Things are only going to become complicated if you get involved with Jeff-sama so I don’t think asking them is a good idea.”

I could hear the whispering voices of the boys and girls in the lowest class. One of the girls kept shooting glances at Mia-sama. She then tried to talk to Mia-sama but Jeff-sama stood up all of a sudden. 

“Kanato~ I will never forget your heroic act from yesterday!”

Jeff-sama said in his usual nonchalant tone. Almost immediately, both Jeff-sama and I became the center of attention in the class.

Jeff-sama walked over to my seat, his step was as light as a feather. 

“Jeff-sama?”

I asked and Jeff-sama smiled warmly before he gently placed his hand on my shoulder.

“After all, it was you, Kanato, who defeated the Red Dragon. While the other party had all fainted from the shockwave of Kanato’s powerful magic ball~”

“”WHAT?!?!?!?!?!””

Everyone in the class erupted into a surprise. 

“Impossible…”

“He must be lying…”

“Unbelievable…”

“Re-Really?”

My classmates said. They were flabbergasted, so much so that their mouths were hanging open out of shock.

“Jeff-sama… Please refrain from saying unnecessary things.”

I glared at Jeff-sama, protesting. However, the corner of Jeff-sama lifted into a smirk instead. 

“But it’s the truth, isn’t it?”

“Well, it is, but…”

Ever since I got enrolled into the lowest class, I had been trying to avoid standing out as much as possible. However, Jeff-sama’s proclamation made it impossible for me to stay inconspicuous.

Amidst the whispers from the boys and girls, suddenly the school announcement echoed in the class. 

『This is an announcement from the Student Council. Kanato-san of the second year from the lowest class, please come to the Student Council room after lunch.』

“Huh? Me?”

I was shocked to find myself suddenly summoned by the Student Council out of the blue like this. Because of the announcement, the people around me started getting noisier too. 

“The Student Council is asking for him?!”

“Then, does that mean.. What Jeff-sama said is true?”

“…..”

While I was silently watching the reactions of my classmates, Jeff-sama gave me a thumbs-up and nodded his head, seemingly satisfied with himself.

Daytime, at the Student Council Room.

After I finished eating lunch with everyone at the base of Five Star, I immediately headed to the Student Council room. 

“….”

I opened the door and I was greeted with the sight of a spacious room. Although the lights were turned off, the room was still brightly lit by the illumination from the sunlight streaming in through the window. There, the sunlight cast its rays upon one beautiful girl. 

As I closed the door, the girl opened her mouth to speak.

“I apologize for summoning you so suddenly.”

“It’s fine. So? What can I do for you?”

Sitting behind the desk for the Student Council President, Luna-sama seemed to blend seamlessly with the surroundings. The sight of her sitting on a luxurious chair looked like something out of a painting. 

“There are few things I want to ask and tell you regarding yesterday’s incident.”

“O-Okay.”

Things to tell, huh? Then why only me? Why didn’t she call the other four as well?

I pondered to myself.

Luna-sama cleared her throat softly before she began speaking. 

‘First, I’ve received a report regarding the nobles who fainted and Geese-san. It seems they are in better condition than yesterday.”

“How wonderful.”

I replied coldly. After all, I didn’t care about their conditions.

Luna-sama paused for a moment before continuing.

“Unfortunately, the musk deer was already dead so we can’t offer any rewards to Kanato-san’s party.”

“Well, I expect as much.”

I replied nonchalantly and Luna-sama glared at me. 

“Just what is going on inside your head….”

“Pardon?”

Seemingly having a headache, Luna-sama held her head with both of her hands as she glared at me. 

“Despite being competent enough to give order to the eldest daughter of the Fibel family and two other nobles… And to be able to defeat the Red Dragon with overwhelmingly powerful magic… You still remain in the lowest class. Don’t you find that strange?!”

I was a bit surprised because Luna-sama raised her voice but still, I decided to speak in the same nonchalant manner as I always did.

“I was placed in the lowest class based on my performance during the entrance exams. I don’t really find it strange or anything to be honest.”

“That’s right. If I’m not wrong, you received full marks in the practical exam but zero mark in the written exam?”

“Yeah, more or less.”

“Was it on purpose?”

“I wrote my answers truthfully. I genuinely thought what I wrote was the correct answer.”

At that time, I answered the written exam based on my knowledge from my past life. However, because the level of knowledge in this world was on the same level as a Japanese middle school, of course the complex concepts I had come to understand were deemed as wrong in this world. Hence why I ended up getting severely scolded by the school staff back then. 

I taught Rina appropriately, demonstrating my full capability as a former cram school teacher. I didn’t drill all of the modern knowledge I had to her. I only taught her just enough to pass the exam at Central Magic School with flying colors. 

I guess I should’ve approached the exam in the same way as Rina…..

“I believe you should stay in the top class with me.”

Still finding my situation incredulous, she narrowed her eyes. She tried to probe even further but….

“I will say it once again. I was placed on the lowest class based on a fair judgment. The teacher marked my exam based on the standard of this prestigious Central Magic School. I don’t think I belong in the top class like you mentioned before.”

“You…. You’re mocking both the Central Magic School and me, aren’t you?!”

Luna-sama slammed both of her hands on the desk and stood up. It seemed my response didn’t sit well with her. 

“No, I’m not trying to mock anyone….”

“In the first place, why did you come to this school anyway?! You must have had some sort of ulterior motives in coming here, right?! Why did you form a party and aiming for the top rank?!”

“We-Well, of course I have my own reasons….”

There were two reasons why I enrolled into this school. First, to get Rina’s tuition fees paid for. Second, to ensure Five Star could become the most outstanding party, which in turn would allow commoners who could wield magic be granted nobility status.

However, neither of these need to be told to her. I had Keltz-sama behind me after all. The girl in front of me was the eldest daughter of Duke Lennox, a family who held significant influence over the administration and judiciary of Halkeginia Kingdom.

It would be foolish of me to stir up trouble with someone like her. 

“And the reason is a secret.”

Yeah. It’s a perfect answer if I may say so myself. With this, Luna-sama will stop prying me. Or if she doesn’t, I can just dodge her question appropriately depending on the situation and try to slip off when I get the chance. 

I smiled, feeling confident. 

But then, Luna-sama suddenly pointed at me.

“I knew it! I need to keep you under surveillance! From now on, I will personally keep an eye on you!”

“Wha-What?! Me? Surveillance?!”

“Yes. It is still within my authority as the student council president. You have no right to refuse.”

“….”

Luna-sama’s silver hair swayed as she glared at me with her emerald eyes. Her cheeks were slightly flushed in a faint crimson color. She was breathing heavily, seemingly excited, which in turn caused her breasts to sway a little. Although her boobs were slightly smaller than Rina’s, but the buoyancy still caught my attention.
