The moment Albert-sama bit into his karaage, his eyes lit up. He started praising me. Keltz-sama and Hannah-sama were already shedding tears due to how delectable the karaage I had made for them. 

While cupping his own cheek, Albert-sama then turned to Keltz-sama. 

“Keltz-sama, this is a goldmine. If you open up a restaurant in the capital and offer this dish exclusively for nobles, it will be a big success for sure!~”

With tears running down his face, Keltz-sama shook his head. 

“You fool! If we do that, the other restaurants will go bankrupt! Everyone will despite us! Besides, your reputation is already bad enough as it is.”

“Hahahaha! That’s true! Well, that goes to show how delicious this meal is. Kanato-kun, you’re so amazing!”

Albert-sama gave me a thumbs-up while doing a guts pose. 

“In any case, let’s focus on eating our meal first.”

I smiled awkwardly and continued eating. 

By the way, Rina was training with Elena-sama at the Fibel family’s residence. It seemed she would be home late.

I awkwardly averted my gaze away. Keltz-sama and Albert-sama exchanged glances between themselves before they turned to me with a bright smile on their faces.

Their response caught me off guard, making me let out a dumb sounding voice unconsciously. 

Keltz-sama took a sip of his tea before he asked me. 

“Kanato-kun, what do you think of this kingdom? Of this Halkeginia Kingdom?”

I thought about his question for a moment.

“…To be honest, I don’t think the kingdom is kind to the commoner.”

“Exactly as you said. An unusually high tax rate, overly strict laws and unjust system of nobility where people who can use magic cannot become nobles.”

“…Speaking of the nobility system, there’s a way to grant low-class soldiers a title that lasts for one generation, right?”

I countered but Albert-sama responded by shaking his index finger. 

“Kanato-kun, you’re wrong. That system was only created because other neighboring countries pointed out the injustice in our system. The people of this kingdom had no choice but to ‘legally’ put that system out.”

“I see…”

So basically they only added that system just to save their face but they had no intention to actually implement it. 

I sighed, finally aware of the dark side of this kingdom when Keltz-sama continued. 

“I’ve encountered various people throughout my life. Among them, there’s this Albert, who has a very strong business spirit. He’s extremely helpful in business. He’s the one that allowed me to amass immense wealth. However…”

He paused. His expression turned somber before he continued. 

“99 out of a 100 people were absolutely horrendous. Most of them look down on commoners, more so than those nobles from other kingdoms.”

“I… See….”

I came from the countryside where there were nothing but commoners around so I didn’t have much experience with nobles until now.

But I guess.. That’s just how it is, huh?

I thought to myself, reminded of Bern’s behavior. 

“They are especially prejudiced against commoners who can use magic like you, Kanato-kun. Do you know why?”

“Why?”

Keltz-sama cleared his throat. 

I turned my attention to him.

“Which is why we need someone who can make a big splash. Instead of pressuring from the top, we want to attack from the bottom up.”

He deliberately spoke in a round-about way. 

Of course, I understood the implications but Keltz-sama decided to explain things more thoroughly. Probably because he didn’t want me to misunderstand. 

“Central Magic School is a place where talented nobles from both within and outside the kingdom gather at. We want Kanato-kun to form a party with my daughter, Jeff and Mia. You guys only need to show excellent results and become the best party in the school. Doing that will surely create a tremendous impact on the royal family and the noble. They won’t be able to ignore the issue about commoners who can use magic. We’re silently pressuring them, so to say.”

“……I see.”

Keltz-sama’s gaze was so intense that I ended up forgetting to drink my tea. 

Then, Albert-sama threw another question at me.

“Yes?”

Albert-sama floundered about like a freshly caught fish. 

“Albert-sama, please restrain yourself. You’re causing trouble for Kanato-sama.”
