Chapter 12: Clash

My first day at school and also, my first duel. 

It seemed my school life was going to be quite challenging.

The people surroundings us overheard my conversation with Bern. Rumors spread quickly and the spectator seats in the arena got filled with students in no time. 

“I heard a commoner transfer student is going to fight against Bern-sama.”

“Bern-sama? The head of the Disciplinary Committee?”

“He’s famous for his excellent earth magic, isn’t he?”

“What a foolish commoner.”

“Rina-chan is cute so she’s popular with guys but that commoner is a guy so.. Well~”

Similar sounding conversations reached my ears. 

I ignored them all since none of them bothered me much. 

However…

“Oi, you. Commoner! Are you seriously going to fight me?”

“Yeah. Unless you apologize to Rina and I, I will defeat you during our duel.”

“You dare to speak so nonchalantly like that with the second son of a count?! Have you lost your mind?! You insolent fool!”

“I heard from Jeff-sama that you have a sister. Is that right?”

“And what’s that got to do with anything?”

In an almost expressionless face, I faced Bern, who was still fuming. 

“If I win, can I have your little sister?”

The moment my words reached Bern’s ears, his face was drained of all color. But then, he immediately glared. The color returned, his face was flushed red from anger. 

“Know your own place, you filthy commoner!! Darn it!!!”

Yelling, Bern glared at the referee in the frenzy of anger.

Flustered, the referee immediately said…

“Be-Begin!!”

As soon as the referee’s words reached our ears, Bern pulled his wand out and began chanting. 

“O spirit of the earth, grant life to this soil, and transform it into a sturdy existence! Golem!”

Then, the soil in front of Bern trembled, forming into one massive lump before the lump transformed into a gigantic golem. The golem was about 5 meters tall. 

“GRRRROOOAAHHHH!!”

“Golem! Bring down the hammer of judgment upon that wretched commoner who has committed a great sin!”

Upon hearing Bern’s command, the golem immediately kicked the ground and charged toward me. 

“-!!”

Despite its humongous size, the golem moved incredibly fast. 

I had fought golems before but this was the first time I ever saw a golem summoned by a human. The difference between the golem moving autonomously and the one receiving command… The difference was really vast. 

The difference actually left me bewildered. 

“Hahahaha!! Look at you scurrying around like a rat! You can run as much as you want but just so you know, it’s futile!”

With his wand, Bern cast another spell on the golem. 

The golem shined bright and its movement gradually became faster. 

“GROAHHHH!!”

The golem continued rampaging, targeting me relentlessly. 

With each strike from its large and hard fist, the ground cracked. Debris flew at me with enough force to pierce my skin. 

“How pathetic! Had you immediately admit your defeat when I challenged you, no harm would have fallen on you! I would be gracious enough to pardon you by taking your little sister! Hahahaha! Come on! Golem! Hit him harder!”

“GROOOAAAAHHHH!!”

I continued evading the golem’s attack empty-handedly while listening to Bern’s disgusting laugh. 

However, I couldn’t just keep evading forever. 

And so, I raised my fist, intending to meet the golem’s fist head on as it came at me with enough force to kill me but…

“Hey, Commoner! Where do you think you’re looking?!”

Bern quickly closed the distance between us and he was about to punch me in the head with his hand, which had turned into stone. 

“Wha-?!”

Struck with a tremendous amount of force from Bern’s fist, I was sent flying about 30 meters away.

“…..”

That was quite a blow. Fortunately, I defended myself with my hands beforehand so I didn’t suffer any major damage. However, compared to my match with Elena-sama, this guy was not that bad. 

“Hoo… To be able to take my attack and still come out unscatched, it seems you have a talent to become a punching bag after all. Let my noble self give you a sense of purpose. You shall become nothing more than a punching bag for me.”

“…….”

I glared at Bern silently as he kept on mocking me. 

“How pathetic. Hadn’t you got enrolled in Central Magic Academy, you wouldn’t need to make a fool of yourself in front of everyone like this. You should’ve just stayed quiet, lead a mediocre life like the loser you are.”

“……”

“Well, if there’s one thing you are good at then.. It must be the fact that you were born as Rina’s big brother. But still, Rina would’ve been happier with me. You’re just a commoner. You have no money nor power. Your mere existence is pathetic already! What a sorry excuse for a man! You shitty poor commoner! Rina would be better off as my mistress!”

I clenched my fist, suppressing my anger and was about to summon a weapon that could kill this guy when suddenly…

And so, I canceled the summoning and just stared at Bern.

I jumped at him and punched him in the stomach. 

He was thrown against the wall, creating a loud bang as he fell down on the ground. 

“Wha-What just happened…”

As Bern groaned in the pain, the golem trembled before it returned into soil. 

I went over to Bern, who was still holding onto his stomach. 

“Surrender.”

“Wha-What?!”

“That golem doesn’t possess free will. In other words, that golem is nothing more but your puppet. So, if I hurt you enough to distract you from your summoning magic, both you and the golem will be rendered useless. Moreover, I already grasped your fighting style and movement. You won’t be able to defeat me.”

‘Ha! Ugh-!! Don’t joke with me! Uff-!! O earth spirit…”

Bern began chanting another spell. 

I grabbed him by the collar and slammed him onto the ground.

“UGH-!!”

“Surrender.”

However, Bern refused to yield. 

“Earth… Spirit…”

Seemingly unable to learn his lesson, Bern began chanting again. I grabbed his collar once more and slammed him onto the ground with a bit more force than before. 

“ARGH-!! Ugh….”

Bern’s face contorted in pain as he spat out blood. Seeing his condition, the surrounding began to erupt in chaos. 

“Why won’t he surrender?!”

“Who is that commoner anyway?!”

“At this rate, Bern-sama is going to die!”

“Admitting defeat to a commoner is against his pride, I guess.”

“What’s going to happen now?!”

Ignoring the people’s reaction, I addressed Bern again. 

“I will say it again. Surrender. Otherwise, I’m afraid things will get out of hand.”

Upon hearing my cold words, Bern kept glaring at me. His eyes were full of hostility even though he was already tattered.

“You shitty commoner… You will remain a commoner for the rest of your life! You’ll never become a noble like me! Ahahahaha!! Ugh-!”

He showed no sign of remorse. He was still able to ridicule me even though blood was still dripping out from his mouth. 

I grabbed his collar. This time, I was about to slam him a bit harder than before but…

Someone thrusted a sword against my neck. 

“Stop. That’s enough.”

Silky silver hair, eyes of emerald green and a well-proportioned figure. While the size might not be as voluptuous as Elena-sama or Rina, her chests were still on the big side. 

She was a beautiful girl with delicate charm, like she was someone frail and feeble. However, her eyes were burning with an air of dignity. Her aura had a different feeling from Elena-sama. Her emerald eyes were fixated on me, giving off an enigmatic fiery intensity. 

The girl spoke again.

“Why didn’t you use your mysterious weapon against the Disciplinary Committee Head?”

“The other students might get hurt.”

“Hm~”

Her sword was still aimed at my neck. But at the same time… The barrel of a pistol I had summoned was aiming at her head too. 

“That’s… The Student Council President, Luna-sama!”

“No way… The Student Council President is intervening in the fight personally??”

I see. So this Luna person is the Student Council President of this school. 

“First, release that man.”

“…..”

I looked at Bern, whose collar was still grabbed by me. 

He was already unconscious.
