Chapter 10: Do Not Underestimate the Lowest Class

“This is Kanato. He’s Rina’s big brother. That is easier to understand, right? Now, please introduce yourself.”

“Umm… I’m Kanato. Nice to meet you.”

After a brief introduction, everyone started whispering among themselves. 

“A commoner, huh?”

“Even in this school, they’re still looking down on us…”

“Well, he’s Rina’s big brother. You know, that excellent first year student?”

“But still, he’s just a commoner.”

“He reek like a commoner.”

I knew it. It must be hard for a commoner to live within the high society after all. I felt I finally caught a glimpse of how much pressure Rina had to withstand during her school days. 

I will need to spoil her a lot later. 

Even though this was the lowest-ranked class, all the boys and girls in here came from prestigious families. It was only natural for people to reject anything they deem as foreign, especially if they came from a privileged background with vested interest deeply rooted in their mind.

I could feel my motivation slipping out even though this was my first day of school. However, if I quit now, I would need to find a way somehow to pay for Rina’s tuition fees myself. 

I sighed, trying to be discreet enough so no one would catch me sighing. 

However, suddenly, a refreshing handsome blonde guy stood up and loudly exclaimed. 

“Kanato is someone who has received the Fibel family’s support~ If any of you dare to treat him with hostility, I don’t think the Fibel family is going to stay silent~ You guys better think things through before you start anything that you will regret later on~”

Everyone widened their eyes in shock at the blonde guy who was puffing up his chest proudly before they returned to murmuring among themselves again.

“Is he for real?”

“So that means… Rina is connected with the Fibel family too?”

“Who the heck is this guy?”

“Crap… Did he overheard our conversation earlier?”

No, not only earlier. I heard everything loud and clear. 

“Kanato-kun, there’s an empty seat over there. Please go sit there.”

“Ye-Yes.”

When I looked at the direction the teacher was pointing at, I saw an empty seat at the far back of the class. As I walked to my seat, I happened to lock eyes with a beautiful girl with purple hair sitting in front of my seat.

“….”

She glanced at me before she lowered her head again.

Hm…. That purple hair seems familiar somehow..

I took my seat and finally, the class started.

The morning class was finally over. Since the lesson was at the level of Japanese middle school, everything was way too easy for me. 

I need to remember to write my exam answers based on the common knowledge of this world instead of writing it based on my previous life knowledge. 

I stood up from my seat when suddenly, I saw two people coming over to me. 

“Kanato, I’ve been waiting to meet you since forever~”

“Jeff-sama, don’t you think that’s a bit much to say to someone you meet for the first time?”

It was the energetic handsome blonde guy who protected me earlier and an elegant looking purple haired girl.

The girl tried to stop him but Jeff-sama remained unfazed. 

He leaned forward to me eagerly. His eyes were practically sparkling as he firmly grabbed my hand.

“Our meeting is meant to be. Kanato, I’m so happy I got to meet you.”

“……….”

“Jeff-sama, you’re putting Kanato-san in a pinch. Why don’t you introduce yourself to him first?”

“Oooh… That’s right. I got a bit excited and ended up behaving inappropriately for someone from a count family.~”

Jeff-sama separated himself from me with great vigor before he did a ‘gut pose’ and introduced himself to me.

“My name is Jeff Elgin, the eldest son of Count Elgin’s family! Nice to meet you!~”

“My name is Mia Cranell. I serve Jeff-sama and I’m the fourth daughter of a baron’s family.”

“Ye-Yes. Nice to meet you.” 

I said while bowing my head deeply. 

The two of them then waved their hands to tell me I didn’t need to bow at them. They smiled at me. 

Putting Jeff-sama aside, Mia-sama looked somewhat familiar to me. 

“Kanato-san?”

“Ah, Mia-sama! My apologies!”

I ended up staring at her a bit too hard.

Will she accuse me of being rude?

Feeling nervous, I glanced at her.

“How is Hannah-neesama?”

“Hannah-neesama….?”

“My older sister.”

Ah, I knew it. So Mia-sama’s family is affiliated with the Fibel family. Considering Jeff-sama’s enthusiastic response when he defended me earlier, he must’ve known someone from the Fibel family as well. 

In any case, I need to thank him properly. 

“Jeff-sama.”

“Hm?”

“Thank you for helping me earlier.”

“Oh my oh my? I’m only stating the truth though?~”

“But still, I’m just a commoner so for someone of your standing to show your concern for me, it really means a lot.”

“Hmm~”

Jeff-sama tightened his lips and approached me again. As he got closer to me, he suddenly grabbed my hands again. His smile was so big and wide. 

“Well then, how about dancing with me?”

“Huh?! Da-Dance?!”

“Come now!”

Jeff-sama pulled my hand and started dancing. 

No-No, just what is this guy doing?? He’s completely unpredictable! Well, he’s not a bad person though… But still!

I danced along with Jeff-san, following his lead. I was completely at a loss for words. I could also hear laughter coming from all around us. 

“Hahahaha! Look at that! Jeff-sama is dancing with that commoner!”

“That guy… He’s really an oddball…”

“It seems that commoner is going to have a lot on his plate thanks to Jeff-sama…..”

“THIS IS SO FUNNY!! Ahahaha!!”

Even though just a moment ago everyone was obviously looking at me with distain, but now everyone was laughing hysterically. The mood brightened in an instant. 

“Ahahahaha!!”

“Wa-Wait! Jeff-sama! You’re moving too fast!!”

Jeff-sama gradually moved faster. I protested because it became harder for me to keep up with him but Jeff-sama but he didn’t seem to listen. 

“Ahahahaha!! Wahahahahaha!!! Ahahahahahah!! Wheeee!!~”

But then, Mia-sama came to rescue. Her striking purple hair entered my sight as she swiftly delivered a chop to Jeff-sama’s head. 

Jeff-sama collapsed on the ground, twitching like a fish. 

“Kanat-san is feeling troubled.”

“I-I see…. I’m sorry about that.”

Jeff-san said. He was still twitching on the ground. Mia-sama’s hand chop must’ve hurt. 

But then, a white statue fell out of his pants pocket. 

The statue looked like me. In fact, the statue felt familiar somehow….

Do-Don’t tell me…

“Ah!! My treasure!!! The one that I bought from Rina-chan for 10 gold coins!!”

SO IT WAS YOU!!!

“Kanato-san…. Umm… My apologies for Jeff-sama…”

“Ahaha…… Mia-sama, I can see you’ve been through a lot, huh?”

“Uuuugh….”

Mia-sama suddenly started crying. She wiped the tears away with her fingers. 

The lowest class. A class filled with people with the lowest skill in by the school’s standard. Nevertheless, one should not underestimate the lowest class.

On the corner of my peripheral vision, Jeff-sama was still rubbing my statue against his cheek. 

He looked so happy…..
