- Chapter 28 - Older Brother’s Determination
Older Brother’s Determination
I quickly turn back and go down the stairs to flee from him, but he also notices me and chase after me at full speed.
Being completely exhausted, I’m caught in no time.
“Hah, hah, Ami-san, please don’t run away…”
“Hah, hah…”
“I came to see you, Ami-san. Please, listen to me.”
“I’m sorry. I’ve decided never to see you again. Please, just go without saying anything. I beg you…”
“No, I won’t go anywhere until we can talk. I didn’t know that my precious little sister was suffering, and by the time I realized so, she was too far away for me to reach, I couldn’t do anything about it. I feel so pathetic and ashamed. I’m so angry at myself for not realizing sooner, but I’m also really angry at my little sister for not telling me about it. She took care of me all the time, but she never asked for my help or relied on me. Now, I finally managed to catch you. I won’t let you go, even if you’re going to hate me for it.”
“T-That’s…”
“Anyway! Let’s calm down and talk. If you don’t want me to go to your place, we can go to a cafe or something.”
Oh no, I’m in trouble.
I don’t think he will give up easily.
“…alright. Let’s go to my place.”
I give up and tell him so.
When we got to my apartment, I hand him a cushion to sit and prepare coffee in the kitchen.
When I return to the room where Souji-kun is waiting, he is sitting there with the same perfect posture he had in the past.
“Here you go.”
I say so as I place the coffee on the table and take a seat across from him.
Souji-kun takes a sip of the coffee and place the cup on the table.
“Ami-san, I’ve passed the entrance exam for *** university! It’s all thanks to your support. With your help, I’m able to fulfil the promise I made to my mother. Thank you very much.”
(TN: For some reason, the author didn’t name the university in the raws as well)
Souji-kun gets on his knees and bows his head.
“No, no, I didn’t do anything. It’s all because of your hard work and Emi’s help.”
“Of course, Emi-san has taken care of me a lot as well, however Emi-san takes care of me because you asked her to do so. That’s why, I’m truly grateful, Ami-san.”
“……”
“To be honest, I wanted to come see you as soon as you moved away, but I was just a high school student. I couldn’t do anything and I hadn’t fulfilled my mother’s promise or your wishes yet. So, I made a decision to not come see you until I passed the entrance exam for my desired university. I worked really hard with that goal in mind. I worked so hard all this time because I want to see you, Ami-san.”
“That’s not fair…if you say something like that, I can’t just turn you away…”
“Yes, I know that. That’s why I’m saying it.”
“Souji-kun, your personality is getting worse…”
“I’ve always been like this, you know? I’m an orphan, so to avoid making enemies, I always acted like a model student in public. But deep down, I’m always bitter and full of resentment.”
“I see…”
“Now, let’s get straight to the point about why I came to see you today.”
“Yes…”
“Let’s live together, Ami-san. Whether as siblings, friends, or anything else, it doesn’t matter. If you agree to stay by my side, I’ll accept it.”
“…that’s impossible.”
“Why? What’s wrong with that?”
“There are too many inconveniences.”
“What inconveniences, for example?”
“We are related by blood.”
“That’s true. Being related by blood means we’re family, so there shouldn’t be any problem with living together, right?”
“Umm…”
“What other inconveniences are there?”
“Well…it’s because, I love you, Souji-kun…”
“What a coincidence. I love you too, Ami-san. Isn’t it natural for two people who love each other to live together? Then it shouldn’t be a problem either.”
“W-Wait a minute! What do you mean there should be no problem!? It’s a huge problem for siblings to love each other! Besides, my love for you is different from yours, I have romantic feelings for you!”
“Well, let’s try looking at it from a different perspective. Ami-san, do you have any intention of marrying a man in the future?”
“No, I don’t have any intention of getting married.”
“Why is that?”
“Because I’m Mama’s child. I’ve decided to bear Mama’s sins.”
“It seems we have something in common. I also have no intention of ever getting married. The reason is because I inherit that worthless father’s blood in my veins. Isn’t this perfect then? A brother and sister who have no intention of getting married. Since we’re both going to live our lives single, wouldn’t it be convenient to live together?”
What’s with this person?
All he has been doing is giving excuses.
He is like a completely different person from the calm, composed, and logical Souji-kun.
Is he a devil in disguise wearing Souji-kun’s mask?
“There is no way I can win against Souji-kun’s words…it’s unfair…”
“I’m desperate. Whether you see me as unfair or a devil, I won’t leave until you nod in agreement.”
How does he know I’m thinking of him as a devil!?
I’m getting more and more annoyed.
I’m already exhausted from work.
I’ve told him how much I don’t want to live with him…
“Enough already! I told you I don’t want to see you! Just leave me alone! I have work again tomorrow, so please go home! I’m tired from working 2 hours overtime!”
“No, I won’t. I’m not going back.”
With a serious expression on his face, Souji-kun remains unwavered, unaffected by my words.
In the end, our conversation remains unresolved, and I allow Souji-kun to stay the night.
