Onee-chan’s Determination

Emi’s POV

When I got home, Onee-chan is already here before me. According to her, Mama is probably shutting herself in her room, and Papa is probably still at work.

When I enter the house, I see that both the living room and kitchen is a total mess.

It seems like no cleaning or laundry have been done at all, and there is a lot of garbage all over the kitchen.

“Emi, let’s clean up together. We can’t live like this, especially since we have school starting tomorrow.”

Seeing the state of the house, Onee-chan said so.

So, the two of us start to clean the house, do the laundry and dispose all of the garbage.

After doing so, we cook for our lunch and eat together.

Then, since there is nothing for us to do, we spend our time together in Onee-chan’s room.

When Papa comes home around 9PM, the two of us go downstairs to talk to him.

The moment he sees our faces, Papa gets down on his knees.

“I’m truly sorry, it all happened in the heat of the moment. Because of my actions, I make the two of you worry…I’m truly sorry.”

Papa apologized so.

I silently watch Papa apologizing to us with a sense of awkwardness.

“We don’t need apologies or anything like that from Papa. So, what’s the plan from here?”

Onee-chan, in a very cold tone, asks Papa.

“Ah, well…I’ll be getting a divorce with your mother…she will be going back to her hometown by the end of this month.”

“Heh…in the past, you threw away and left Souji-kun’s mother when she was at her lowest, and now you’re getting a divorce?”

“T-That’s…”

“Well, it doesn’t matter anyways. As long as you provide us with financial support so that we can continue our lives without trouble, I don’t expect anything else from you. Emi, now that you’ve heard what you want to hear, let’s go upstairs.”

Saying that, Onee-chan takes my hand and go back to her room on the second floor.

When we return to Onee-chan’s room, she has me sit on the bed, and she goes down onto her knees, holding both of my hands.

“Emi, when Mama and Papa get divorced, I’m going to go with Mama and you should stay with Papa.”

“Eh!? No way! Let’s stay together, Onee-chan! I don’t want to leave you! I want to stay by your side!”

“I’m sorry…but Onee-chan has something to do. So, I want you to stay here and take care of Souji-kun for me.”

“But Onee-chan, you can just stay here and take care of Souji-senpai together with me…”

“Emi, please, I’m begging you. I want to stay by your side as well, but I can’t…I don’t have the right to be Souji-kun’s sister. On top of that, there are things that only I can do.”

“What are these things that only Onee-chan can do? What are you planning? Is it something to do with Mama?”

“I’m sorry, but I can’t tell you that.”

Onee-chan looks at me with a serious expression on her face.

She seems so determined that I feel I can’t persuade her no matter what I say.
