Sister’s Discomfort
Emi’s POV
When Onee-chan comes back after she took her stuff at home, I can’t help but to feel something is off about Onee-chan’s behaviour.
She still talks like usual, and her mood seems fine just like before. In fact, she appears to be a little more energetic.
However, I can’t quite put it into words…but she seems like pushing herself too hard?
When I ask if she met Mama at home,
“She suddenly showed up out of nowhere while I was rummaging through the kitchen. It startled me at first, but I managed to say everything I wanted to say.”
I wonder if something happened between her and Mama?
If Onee-chan has told Mama everything she wanted to say, doesn’t that mean they got into an argument?
I don’t know what exactly happened, so I’m not really sure about it, but I guess it’s not worth worrying about?
Anyway, Onee-chan hasn’t seemed down at all today, and even after finding out that they’re siblings, she has been talking with Souji-senpai as usual. So maybe everything is surprisingly okay?
It’s only been a few days since Onee-chan found out about it, so I’ve been worried about her and kept a close eye on her.
However, Onee-chan is indeed older than me and much stronger than I thought.
Since then, Onee-chan has become stronger, more dependable and responsible than ever, she has been working hard with her cooking and doing the household chores.
She even told me to learn how to cook and do laundry recently.
Furthermore,
“When Onee-chan has some errands to do, Emi should cook dinner for both Souji-kun and yourself, okay?”
She said so.
I realize that Onee-chan is not only taking care of Souji-senpai, but also me, her younger sister. She wants me to be able to cook simple dishes so that whenever she isn’t around, I can take care of myself. Well, I don’t want to trouble Souji-senpai, so I take her words seriously and do what she told.
When the fridge Onee-chan bought from the electronics store is delivered and installed in the kitchen, Onee-chan suddenly ask Souji-senpai.
“Souji-kun, can you tell us about your mother?”
Souji-senpai seems a bit taken aback at first by the sudden question.
“Souji-kun’s mother is like a mother to both Emi and me too. We want to know what kind of person she was. Please tell us about her.”
When Onee-chan said so, Souji-senpai agrees and tells us stories about his mother.
Onee-chan listens to Souji-senpai with a very calm expression on her face as she looks at the photo of Souji-senpai’s mother.
Souji-senpai shares various memories of his mother with us, when he used to play tag with his mother in the park when he was in kindergarten, how he loved the pound cake that she used to make, the celebration dinner when Souji-senpai became a regular basketball player in his middle school club, as well as the challenging times Souji-senpai and his mother faced during her battle with her illness after receiving a terminal diagnosis.
“Just as I thought, Souji-kun’s mother is a truly kind person. Your mother in this photo looks very beautiful and gentle. I wish I could have met her in person and properly introduced myself.”
Despite everything that has happened, the three of us are able to spend the winter break peacefully.
Then, on the final day of winter break, Onee-chan and I have to return home.
“Don’t worry, we’ll be fine. I’m sorry for causing so much trouble during the winter break when you should have been enjoying it. Thank you so much, you really saved us, Souji-kun. Good luck with your studies, I’ll be rooting for you.”
Onee-chan said so to Souji-senpai who is worried about us.
“However, I feel a little anxious…Souji-kun, I want to hear you sing. If I listen to you singing, I’ll surely be able to gather my courage and I’ll be fine. So, can you sing for me, Souji-kun?”
Souji-senpai decided to sing Miyuki Nakajima’s ‘Fight’ at Onee-chan’s request.
“Thank you! Souji-kun’s singing is truly amazing! I’ll be fine now! Well then, I’m off!”
With those words, Onee-chan hops onto her bicycle and head home ahead of me,
I also thank Souji-senpai and take the bus home.
