Emi desperately pulls me upstairs into my room on the second floor, then we hug each other and cry for a while.

“It’s my fault that Souji-kun…it’s all because of me that he…”

I sobbed.

“No, that’s not true! It’s not Onee-chan’s fault! Both Souji-senpai and Onee-chan are the victims of those two! It’s absolutely not your fault!”

Emi reassured me so.

“But if I hadn’t been born, Souji-kun wouldn’t have suffered like this…”

“No, that is absolutely not true…please don’t blame yourself, Onee-chan.”

“Emi, what should I do…I have to apologize to Souji-kun…”

“You are not the one who should apologize, Onee-chan! Souji-senpai doesn’t think it’s your fault either!”

My mind is already a mess at this point. The hatred towards our parents, guilt towards Souji-kun, and the feeling of self-loathing are all mixed together, it makes me feel sick to my stomach.

“Onee-chan, let’s just run away from here. Staying here will drive us crazy. Can I borrow your phone, Onee-chan? I’ll try to contact Senpai.”

Saying so, Emi briefly moves away from me and takes my phone, which is charging on the table. She then dials Souji-kun’s number.

“Hello, Souji-senpai? It’s Emi. I’m sorry for calling you out of the blue. There is a bit of a trouble happened at our place, and we need to talk to you about it… Yes, that’s right. I’ll explain the details later, but for now, can you let me and Onee-chan stay with you for a while…? Thank you so much. We’ll get ready and head over soon. Thanks again.”

Emi then ends the call.

“Onee-chan, let’s go to Souji-senpai’s place right now. He said he’d listen to us, and he’s okay with us staying for a while. Let’s get ready now.”

“But I don’t want to cause Souji-kun any more trouble…”

“Onee-chan! Souji-senpai has always cared and thought of us as his little sisters. This is the time to rely on him, okay?”

“I see…okay, I understand. Let’s go to Souji-kun’s place.”

“Yeah, let’s prepare our things to stay there for a while, okay?”

Emi takes my travel bag out of the closet, packing my underwear and clothes.

“I-I’m sorry Emi. I can do this by myself. You should get your things ready as well.”

“Yeah, okay then. If you need anything else besides your clothes, make sure to bring it, okay?”

“Yeah.”

Then, I start to pack anything I can find into the bag. The travel bag alone is not enough, so I also grab a sports bag and stuff it with my things.

Once I finished packing my things, I go to check on Emi.

Emi has also packed her things into two bags, a travel bag and a sport bag as well.

As it’s starting to get dark outside, we dressed warmly, wearing duffle coats over our clothes as well as scarves and gloves because it’s quite cold outside.

When we carry our bags downstairs, I see Mama and Papa sitting on the couch of the living room in silence, not even bothering to turn on the lights.

Without saying anything to them, I head to the front door.

“Wait a minute.”

Emi says so and head back to the living room.

“We will need some money for our living expenses for a while.”

I can faintly hear Emi says so.

“I took some money for our living expenses from Papa and Mama’s wallets.”

Emi tells me so when she returns to the entrance.

As we go outside, the two of us walk to the bus stop. My tears have already stopped, but I still have no idea how to face Souji-kun when I see him. I feel a mixture of anxiety, fear and guilt deep within my heart.
