Older Brother is Weak Against Little Sister’s Tears
I have expected that Souji-kun would react this way, but I feel really sad that my thoughts and efforts aren’t reaching Souji-kun. My tears are dripping onto the tatami mat.
The atmosphere feels awkward, and I don’t want Souji-kun to see my cry, so I turn my back to him.
“I’m sorry! Forget what I just said! The food will get cold, so please eat it quickly!”
I said so while trying my best to stop crying.
However, my voice is trembling, and no matter how many times I wipe my tears, they just won’t stop flowing.
“I’m not hungry, so please eat the onigiri as well, Souji-kun! I’m going to wash the dishes now!”
I get up with my back turned against Souji-kun and head to the kitchen.
I messed up again…
Now Souji-kun is going to distance himself from me again…
I’ve been holding myself back and worked hard all this time to improve our relationship…
When I’m standing at the sink while wiping my tears with my apron, somehow, without me noticing, Souji-kun is already standing behind me.
“I’m sorry, Ami-san! I never wanted to make you sad! I just thought that I don’t deserve to have Ami-san do that much for me! I never think your kindness as a nuisance, I’m actually really happy that you are willing to go that far to help me!”
Souji-kun apologized so.
I’m so startled and surprised that I stop crying at once.
“Umm…then, can we go shopping for dishes later…?”
“…yes, please. I’m sorry for troubling you, but please go shopping with me.”
“Really? If we go shopping and buy a lot of things, are you willing to accept them?”
“As long as it’s not too expensive, I’ll gratefully accept them.”
“Great~…”
I cry again as I say so, but this time, it’s not out of frustration, but out of relief.
After crying for a while, I finish my meal and wash the dishes.
Then, we discuss where are we going to go shopping.
100-yen store, home improvement centre, furniture store, and electronic store.
Since we can to there by bicycle, we decided to go there as soon as the store is open.
While waiting for the stores to open, me and Souji-kun discuss and write down what we need or want to see at the stores, and so, we make a list of items that we are going to buy today.
Pot (Large)
Frying Pan
Teacups, plates, cups, chopsticks and spoons.
Knife, cutting board, Tupperware.
Bath towels, hand towels.
Toilet paper, soap, shampoo, dish detergent and sponges.
As for a heater, it seems that Kotatsu will be the cheapest option.
Also, I strongly insisted to buy Souji-kun’s shoes, underwear and socks.
In the morning, we shop at the 100-yen store and home improvement centre, buying kitchenware and daily necessities.
At the home improvement centre, we bought a kotatsu at a discount price, along with a futon for the kotatsu. We also decided to buy a bookshelf so that Souji-kun has a place to put his books. Souji-kun actually hesitated and said that he didn’t want to buy the bookshelf, but I insisted that we should buy it. The store clerk said that they will deliver all of the stuff to our address, which is a huge help.
After going to the 100-yen store and home improvement centre, we go back to Souji-kun’s apartment to drop off the stuff we just bought. Since it is already time for lunch, I decided to make fried rice in a frying pan that we just bought.
Just after we finished having our lunch, the home improvement store delivery arrives. So, we quickly assemble the bookshelf and kotatsu.
Once we finished assembling both the bookshelf and kotatsu, we go out shopping by our bicycles again.
In the afternoon, we go around the stores to look for clothing items.
Souji-kun’s underwear, towels, and clothes.
Since neither of us has a good sense of fashion, we decided to buy them solely on prices.
However, I avoided the clothes that I thought are not fashionable.
We also bought a pair of sneakers for Souji-kun. They seem durable and it is a well-known sports brand.
The curtains are more expensive than I thought, so we decided to buy fabric instead and make a simple substitute for curtains out of it.
I thought that he might hesitate to buy it again, but Souji-kun already seemed to have given up.
“Thank you.”
He just simply said so.
After finishing our shopping, we return to the apartment and start to unpack and storing the stuff we just bought. I also help Souji-kun to wash things that needed to be cleaned before use.
On the evening, I immediately use the newly bought cooking utensils and make curry for us.
We both sit inside the kotatsu that we just bought, and have dinner together.
While eating, we calculate how much money we have spent today.
It is just under 40,000 yen in total.
I still have some money left.
However, I’m hesitant to give Souji-kun the rest by cash.
“Can we buy a refrigerator with the remaining money? If it’s not enough, maybe we’ll just buy it someday.”
I suggested so.
“I’m really sorry for everything…”
“P-Please don’t apologize! I’m doing this out of my own selfishness. Also, I had a lot of fun at my part-time job and shopping today…”
“I’m really grateful, Ami-san. You are the only one who is willing to go this far just to help someone like me. Thank you very much. Someday, I promise I’ll make it up to you.”
“Fufufu, I’ll be looking forward to it then.”
“Yeah, I promise.”
By the time we finished dinner, it is already dark outside. So, I decided to wash the dishes and leave.
I was planning to go back home alone, but Souji-kun insisted that he will walk me home, at least to my neighbourhood.
At the park near my house, I park my bicycle and stop for a while.
“Can I come visit you again sometimes when you are free?”
I timidly asked so.
“Yeah, of course. Today was really busy, so we can’t relax. Let’s spend more time together next time.”
Souji-kun said so as he shows me that gentle smile of his.
