Swimming Pool

Since me and Souji-kun got our smartphones, we often contact each other through it.

However, whenever I text Souji-kun he often just replies me with a simple, ‘Okay.’ or ‘Understood.’

Even so, whenever I want to chat or go out with him, I can just text him and ask if he is free immediately. It makes my life so much easier.

And most importantly, I feel much closer to Souji-kun.

By the time August came around, thanks to the help of Souji-kun, I have miraculously almost finished my summer break homework. I have been focusing on my homework and exam preparation without going out to play much this summer break, so I decided to go out and have fun with Souji-kun after a long time.

Of course, we decided to go to the swimming pool.

It’s been a while since the two of us went out to have fun together, so I have been looking forward to it for the past few days.

Since I always made onigiri, I decided to make sandwiches for us today.

I asked Souji-kun if there are any ingredients he doesn’t like the day before. Souji-kun told me that he doesn’t hate anything in particular and he would eat anything. So, I decided to make egg sandwich as well as some cheese and ham sandwich for us.

Whether it is deciding our schedule or discussing our lunch, I always contacted Souji-kun using my smartphone. It is really convenient to have smartphones these days.

I wake up at 7:00 AM, wash my face, brush my teeth, and go straight to the kitchen to prepare our lunch. I first boil some eggs for the sandwich filling and then take a shower while the eggs cool off.

I go out of the shower, change my clothes, dry my hair, and continue cooking in the kitchen.

I first crush and peel the boiled egg shells, mix them with mayonnaise, and season them with salt and pepper.

Next, I take out slices of bread and cut off the crusts.

I decided to make three sandwiches with ham and cheese filling and three sandwiches with egg filling for our lunch.

I then cut each sandwich into four equal pieces, arrange the cut pieces upright, and wrap them with plastic wrap.

Now, all that’s left to do is pour some barley tea into a bottle and pack our lunch.

I carry our lunch to my room, pack my backpack with our lunch, water bottle, towel, swimsuit, eye drops, cotton buds, lip balm, and some other things I need.

We decided to meet at the bus stop at 9 in the morning. So, I leave the house 15 minutes earlier.

When I arrive at the bus stop, Souji-kun has already arrived waiting for me. He is sitting on a bench reading a book.

“Good morning!”

I greeted Souji-kun so and sit down next to him.

After waiting for a while, the bus finally arrives.

“The bus is air conditioned, it’s really comfortable.”

“Yeah, that’s true. It’s very tiring to walk this time of year.”

“But we could’ve just walked today, we are going to the swimming pool anyway. We can have a refreshing dip and cool off there.”

“Maybe, but I think I’ll be too tired from the pool that I wouldn’t want to walk home.”

“Fufufu, you’re right. I guess the bus is the right choice after all.”

After about 20 minutes, we finally arrive at our destination. We pay the fee at the entrance and enter the swimming pool.

As soon as we get into the swimming pool, we split up to change into our swimsuits.

When I come out of the changing room, Souji-kun is already waiting for me.

“Sorry for the wait!”

“No problem. Let’s go now.”

“Yeah!”

The pool area is bustling with people. However, most of them seem to be high school students. There are hardly any middle school students like us.

We deliberately choose this swimming pool to visit. This way, we can spend time together without needing to worry about running into our classmates.

Before entering the pool, Souji-kun begin to do some warm ups. So, I follow him and do the same.

After doing some warm ups, the both of us get into the pool. We both swim around and playfully splash water at each other at first, but then we quickly get bored and ended up floating lazily like jellyfish.

While the two of us are just chilling and lying side by side by the pool, I made an astonishing discovery. Well, ‘astonishing’ in my own opinion, that is.

I know that Souji-kun has a naturally handsome face, and he is often said to be good looking by others, but when he brushes his wet hair back, he even looks about 50% more handsome than usual. He looks like a dashing gentleman, his appearance is extremely captivating. I can’t help but to keep looking at his face the whole time.

We played in the pool for about two hours, changed before noon, and leave the swimming pool area with wet hair.

Since there are some parks near the swimming pool, we decided to go there to have our lunch. We find a nice place in the shade, spread out our sheet, and prepare our lunch.

“I’ve never made sandwiches before, so I’m sorry if it doesn’t taste good.”

“It’s okay. It’s beautifully done and it looks delicious. Itadakimasu.”

“Yeah, go ahead.”

After swimming in the pool, the shade of the trees feels cool and comfortable, maybe because of the gentle breeze. We decided to rest here for a while after finishing our lunch.

Souji-kun begins to read his book.

Souji-kun is truly handsome. I decided to lay down and watch him.

It’s been almost 5 months since Souji-kun came to our house.

It’s been nearly half a year since Souji-kun’s Mama passed away.

Of course, Souji-kun must feel lonely about it, but I wonder if I manage to help Souji-kun to lessen his loneliness, even just a little bit?

Spending time with Souji-kun is definitely enjoyable for me, but I wonder if Souji-kun feels the same?

“Souji-kun…can I hold your hand?”

“…yeah…here you go.”

Souji-kun close the book that he was reading and holds out his left hand.

While lying down, I grab his hand with my right hand.
