Matching Smartphone

After summer break ended, during a club activity, Sakura-chan shows me her new smartphone that her parents just bought for her.

I’m so jealous.

Neither me nor Souji-kun has smartphones. So, if we want to talk to each other about something, we have to do it in person.

Moreover, we have to do it in secret.

If I have a smartphone, I can always contact and talk to Souji-kun anytime I want. We can chat each other even if we aren’t together.

So, I try to figure out a way to get a smartphone.

Asking Mama to buy me one is probably a bad idea.

She might say something like,

‘What are you talking about!? You should be worrying about your entrance exam instead of buying a smartphone!”

That means, there is only once choice left, Papa.

I improved my ranking in the final exams, so I’m thinking about asking Papa if I can get a smartphone as a reward.

I’ll even try to act cute and beg a little.

And while I’m at it, I’ll beg for Souji-kun’s smartphone as well.

Papa seems sympathetic toward Souji-kun who had lost his mother.

On top of that, Souji-kun did even better than me in the exams.

Yeah, I’ll use that to negotiate with Papa to buy us smartphones.

However, if Mama hears about it, she will surely make a fuss about it. I will need to talk to Papa about it when Mama is not around.

Then, when it’s time for Mama to take a bath. I go to the living room where Papa is watching TV, and talk to him about it.

“Papa, I have a request.”

“Hmm? What is it? Is there something you want?”

“Yeah…I want to get a smartphone. Many of my friends have one, and it seems like most kids my age do. The only people I know that don’t have smartphones are just me and Souji-kun.”

“Hmm, I see…”

“Also, my ranking went up, I did well on the final exams, didn’t I? And Souji-kun is the top student of our grade in both the midterm and final exams. Both of us worked really hard in our studies, so I was wondering if we could get a smartphone as a reward.”

“You’re right…well, it’s inconvenient to not have smartphones these days. I guess I can get the both of you one.”

“Really!? Are you really going to buy it for us!?”

“Yeah, sure. It’s coming out of Papa’s pocket money, so I can’t go anything too expensive, okay? Also, since it will be purchased under my name, I’ll have to put some restrictions on it. However, if you’re just using it for normal use such as calling and texting, it shouldn’t be any problem.”

“Yayy! Thank you, Papa!”

“Then, let’s go shopping with Souji-kun this Saturday.”

“Yeah!”

The negotiation went well!

I immediately go to Souji-kun’s room later that night and tell him about the smartphone.

Souji-kun hesitates about it at first saying,

“It’s too extravagant for me, I’ll manage without it. Besides, I don’t want to trouble uncle to buy me one.”

Convincing Souji-kin is even harder than convincing Papa.

In the end, when I pretend to depressed and gets teary-eyed saying,

“I want to chat a lot with Souji-kun, so I tried really hard to negotiate with Papa…I don’t expect Souji-kun to be so against it…I’m sorry…”

Seeing me getting teary eyed, Souji-kun finally agrees.

“Okay, I get it. If Ami-san went to the trouble of asking for it on my own behalf, I’ll gratefully use the smartphone.”

In the end, both me and Souji-kun got the same smartphone model, but in different colours.

I chose the white colour and Souji-kun chose the blue colour.

Immediately, on the night of the day Papa bought it for us, I go to Souji-kun’s room and we learn how to use the smartphone together.

We figured out how to text and call each other, but we didn’t try using popular apps such as Line because we are not familiar with them.

Yeah, that’s right, both of us are not good with technology…

Both me and Souji-kun decided to use our smartphone in secret, because if Mama or Emi were to find out about it, we could get into a lot of trouble.

Papa also told me to not tell Mama about it.
