Ear Cleaning

During the summer vacation, me and Souji-kun often go to the school library together.

We do our summer break homework and study for our high school entrance exam together at the school library. Also, I asked Souji-kun about his next book recommendation.

Our school’s library is air conditioned, so we can study together during the daytime comfortably.

As usual, I prepared some onigiri for us and brought some tea with me before meeting Souji-kun at school.

We usually go to the library from 10 in the morning until about 3 in the afternoon, studying and reading.

For lunch, we often eat at the literature club room together.

Eating and drinking are prohibited in the library, and if we eat at the school cafeteria or somewhere, there is a chance that our classmates would see us. Even though is it summer break, there are still some students going to school for club activities. I don’t want them to see us and start a rumor about it.

In the literature club room, we can relax and enjoy our time alone together without being seen by anyone.

Just like that, we go to school about 2 or 3 times a week during the summer break to study together.

I told Mama the reason I’m going to school is to study.

‘It’s too hot at home to concentrate. So I’m going to the school library to study.’

She didn’t say anything in particular about it.

It’s not like I’m lying to her or anything, I really went to school to study.

Come to think about it, while we were studying in the library, I asked about Souji-kun’s plan after graduating from middle school.

Souji-kun’s choice is after all a public high school.

It is one of the most prestigious high schools in the prefecture.

There is even a more prestigious high school in the next prefecture, I bet Souji-kun can get into that school without any problem, but due to the problem of commuting there, Souji-kun decided to go to the public high school here. It seems that Souji-kun doesn’t want to go to school by train or bus if possible.

The private girl’s high school I’m applying to is also in this prefecture. So maybe, even if we go to separate high school, we can meet and hang out with each other after school.

I actually kind of wish Souji-kun would pick me up after school.

What am I talking about? I’m not even dating Souji-kun. I’m being delusional.

A few days into the summer break, as we are chatting in Souji-kun’s room late at night, I noticed something.

Since Souji-kun moved into our house, he hasn’t cleaned his ears.

He usually uses nail clippers from the school infirmary to cut his nails.

But he said he doesn’t care that much about cleaning his ears.

Hearing that, I rush out of Souji-kun’s room to get my own earpick and some cotton buds in my room.

“Let me clean your ears, Souji-kun.”

“Eh!? No, it’s dirty, so I’ll do it myself. It would be really great if you can lend me your earpick, I can do it on my own.”

“……”

I hold my earpick in my hand and just stare at Souji-kun silently.

“Come on, it’s really fine. I can do it on my own.”

“……”

I continue to silently gaze at Souji-kun as if pleading to him, ‘Let me do it.’

“Hah… Alright…then please…”

“Fufufu, then please rest your head on my lap.”

“Hah…”

I finally have a reason to have some physical contact with Souji-kun. Having Souji-kun’s head on my lap feels all lovey-dovey like a couple. I’m proud of myself that I came up with this idea.

Well, I rather not say anything about the condition of his ears.

But it’s important to clean them once in a while, even if it’s a hassle.

By the way, I haven’t even held hands with Souji-kun yet.

But right now, I am giving him a lap pillow.

I’m sure I’m the only girl who has ever given Souji-kun a lap pillow.

Just thinking about it makes my heart flutter.
