Way Back Home

About an hour later, Souji-kun wakes up.

“I-I’m, sorry, I fell asleep.”

“You stayed up late last night because I fell asleep in your room last night, then today we walked from our house to all the way here. It’s only natural for you to get tired, Souji-kun. More importantly, are you sure you won’t catch a cold or something sleeping here?”

“It’s okay, don’t worry about it. Hah…I never napped in front of other people or in public before, I really screwed up today.”

I had never seen Souji-kun complain like that before, it’s almost he is whining about it. I can’t help but to laugh.

“Fufufu, it’s okay. You are too tense all the time, Souji-kun. I think you should relax like this once in a while, you know?”

“Is that so? I’ll keep that in mind.”

“By the way, what are your plans after this? We can stay here a bit longer, but considering the walk back, it might be a good idea to head back soon before it gets too dark.”

“Yeah. Do you want to borrow that book to take home?”

“Oh right, I forgot about that. If I borrow it here, I’ll have to come back here one day to return it. It’s quite far from our house, so I think it’s quite a troublesome to come here just to return a book. I was thinking of borrowing it from the school library, do you think they have it there?”

“Ah, they have the same copy of that book in the school library. So I think it’s better for you to borrow it there.”

“Alright then, I’ll probably head to the school library tomorrow to check it out.”

“Okay then.”

I put the book I was reading back on the shelf where it belonged and go to the bathroom. Then we start to walk back to our house.

“It’s been a while since I’ve been to the city library, but I enjoyed it. However, I think it’s best to not coming here during the summer.”

“That’s true. Especially on a hot day like today, we were both drenched in our sweat when we reached here. The weather is likely going to be even hotter from now on.”

“Ah yeah, how about we go to the swimming pool instead of the library next time? Once summer break starts, we can go to the public swimming pool or the neighbourhood middle school’s swimming pool.”

“Sure, that sounds great , but I only have the swimsuit that I use for PE class. Is that okay?”

“Yeah, I only have that swimsuit as well, so we’re in the same boat. It should be fine.”

“I see. In that case, let’s go to the pool sometimes.”

And so, I’m able to make a promise to go out with Souji-kun again.

Rather than going out for shopping or going somewhere far, I prefer spending time together by having leisurely chats and hang around the neighbourhood without spending much money. I hope we can do lots of things together during the summer break.

By the time we arrive at the park near our house, Souji-kun says,

“I’m going to kill some time at the park for a while. If we go home together at the same time, your parents will likely to get suspicious of us.”

“In that case, you should go back first, Souji-kun. You are really tired after all, aren’t you?”

“I’m fine, don’t worry about it. Go ahead and go back home first, Ami-san.”

“Okay, I’ll go back first then. I’m sorry. Even though you’ve went to the city library with me.”

“No really, don’t worry about it. Thank you for the onigiri today. Besides, it’s really fun today.”

“Yeah, thank you very much as well, Souji-kun. Please take a good rest once you come home.”

“Yeah.”

I wave my hand to Souji-kun and say goodbye to him.

As he waves back to me, I keep waving while looking back at him multiple times.

When I got home, my mom is in the kitchen doing something. She didn’t say anything in particular.

I put my things in my room and take a quick shower. Since I’m really tired of all the walking, I end up lying down in my bed, and before I knew it, I fell asleep.

I woke up when Mama called me for dinner.

After dinner, I realized that I hadn’t touched any of my homework yet. I really want to go to Souji-kun’s room and ask for his help, but I can’t do that since Mama is around. So today, I managed to finish some of my homework alone, even though I felt like crying the whole time doing it.
