- Chapter 11 - Small Dining Table
Small Dining Table
After realizing that I’m in love with Souji-kun, I feel like I hate myself. I want to make up for the mistakes I’ve made. All I can think of all day is ways to make up with Souji-kun.
Because I’m the one who asked Souji-kun to keep our living situation together a secret, I feel hesitant to approach him in the classroom. It’s quite troublesome if someone in our class knows we are living together, he is the student council president after all, so he is really popular. On top of that, I have my own club activities after school at the library, so I can’t talk with him there very often.
That means I can only mostly talk to him in our house.
However, if Mama catches us talking to each other, she will likely make a fuss about it.
Even if it’s not every day, I’ve been thinking about finding a way to talk to Souji-kun. I want to get closer to him.
Then on Sunday, Mama and Papa say that they are going to go shopping together.
Mama and Papa also invited me and Emi to come, but Emi declined saying she has plans with her friends. I also declined saying I have a headache and stayed home.
Mama and Papa go out in the morning and said that they would be back in the evening.
Not long after Mama and Papa went out, Emi also goes out with her friends.
Because there is no one home, I decided to cook lunch for both Souji-kun and me.
I’m not a very good cook, but I can at least make fried rice and salad.
After finished cooking, I go back to my room, changed into a skirt and applied my favourite lipstick.
I then return to the kitchen, put the meal for two on a tray and carry it to the front of Souji-kun’s room.
After putting the tray on the floor, I knock the door.
“Yes.”
“Umm…lunch is ready.”
“Ah, t-thank you very much. I will go get it right away.”
“Ah, it’s okay, I’ve brought it here. So If you could open the door…”
“I’m really sorry! I’ll open it right away!”
Souji-kun seems a bit puzzled seeing the tray on the floor. He seems to be wondering why there are two plates on the tray.
“Um…if it’s not too much trouble, do you mind if we eat together?”
“Well…sure, if that’s okay with you. It’s just an empty room, though. Please come in.”
With Souji-kun’s permission, I enter his room for the first time.
“I’m sorry, there is no table or anything here. We’ll have to eat on the floor.”
Then, I remember that I have a table in my room.
“Please wait a minute. I’ll bring my table!”
I run out of the room without even listening to Souji-kun’s response. I then return from my room on the second floor with the table.
“I-I’m sorry! It must be really heavy.”
“No, it’s fine. It’s not that heavy.”
I set the table in the middle of the empty room and lay out the food for us. Both me and Souji-kun then sit down on the floor facing each other.
“Let’s eat now. Itadakimasu.”
“Yeah, Itadakimasu.”
Because I rarely talked to Souji-kun, I don’t know what to talk in a situation like this. I remain nervous while eating my lunch silently.
The atmosphere feels really heavy. Perhaps seeing me nervous, Souji-kun talks to me.
“Umm, did you make this fried rice, Ami-san?”
“Yeah…is it not good?”
“No, that’s not it…I mean, you even made some for me too. I’m really sorry for troubling you.”
“There is no need to apologize…to be honest, I’m the one who should be apologizing…”
“There is no need for you to apologize, Ami-san…”
“No, Mama’s and Emi’s attitude towards you is kind of…”
“Oh, don’t worry about it. No one wants to have a boy who is the same age as her daughter to suddenly live in their house. I’m just grateful to have a place to sleep.”
“But…”
“Also, this fried rice is really delicious. Thank you.”
Souji-kun said so with a very warm smile on his face.
