Chapter 41: Conceptual Spirit – Kanata Soranaki
“C-Can you all see this!? Rouga, the Reisoushi who suddenly crashed the exam—the son of the legendary Ouma Shiranui—has transformed into a giant Conceptual Spirit!”
Beyond the semi-transparent barrier, a TV reporter was excitedly narrating the chaos.
Even though most Reisoushis were either evacuating or preparing for battle, this guy was sticking to his job.
For someone who’d probably die in one punch, that’s some insane dedication.
Moyoko was tugging at his sleeve, yelling, “Get out of here already!” but she’s just a toddler, so… yeah, no chance. End of story.
“Looks like you’re on TV, Rouga. Wanna wave to your dad?”
“GRAAAAAAAAH!!!”
His response was a massive claw strike, his front leg tearing through the air.
An ear-splitting BOOOOOOM shook the ground as his claws ripped a crater into it.
“Man, this is getting old.”
“B-Brother…!”
I’d already dodged out of the way.
Holding the teary-eyed wolf girl, Riru, I leapt from one chunk of rubble to the next, creating more distance.
“So you don’t care if your sister’s in the way. You really have fallen into being a beast.”
“N-No… It’s not like that. Riru and Brother… we care about each other, and we care about Lord Ouma… our father… that’s why… we attacked you…!”
“?”
I don’t get it. How does caring about their father lead to attacking me?
Anyway—
“Stay back. You didn’t kick my brother, so I’ll show you a little mercy.”
Rouga already got his fill by swallowing her. That scream was satisfying enough.
“I’m about to unleash my weapon. You’re immortal anyway, so I wouldn’t mind dragging you into it.”
“Uh…!”
Riru, trembling, backed away. Good girl.
“Alright, let’s do this, Rouga.”
“Grrrrrrrr…!”
Rouga’s body surged with spiritual energy.
The red moon in the sky started to crack, the dark ground withered away, and as if feeding off it, the giant wolf grew even stronger.
—He’s absorbing the spiritual energy that makes up this canopy.
“The Conceptual Spirit [Werewolf]. By evolving into a high-level spirit, you’ve gone from an ‘undying monster of the night’ to a ‘monster that rules the night.’”
If this keeps up, the canopy will collapse, and this monster will break free.
“No time to waste, then.”
I poured spiritual energy into the silver case. And then—
“Activate—[Cursed Steel: Hellbird]!”
In an instant, a burst of dark light exploded from the case.
“GRRAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!”
Within the blinding light that even Rouga flinched from, something strange happened.
The cold [Hihiirokane] case began to transform with a low mechanical hum.
Like a complex 3D puzzle, parts of it spun and shifted in intricate patterns.
The internal mechanisms revealed themselves, and with a rapid series of clicks and whirs, six blade-like structures emerged — each splitting into two, forming a total of twelve razor-sharp segments.
These segments scattered and flew into position, hovering around my waist and assembling into a menacing, yet beautiful, silhouette.
—It formed wings of metal.
Each segment was a blade of unimaginable sharpness, equipped with the ability to fly—an unknown piece of Conceptual Spirit Weaponry.
“So this is…”
Just as I was about to comment on this new weapon, Riru squeaked behind me.
“Eek!?”
“What? Something wrong?”
“Y-Your head!”
“Are you trying to insult me?”
I glared at her, and she quickly shook her head. “N-No, not that!”
“Above your head…!”
“Huh?”
I followed her finger, pointing above me.
And there it was — a halo floating above my head, just like the one Rouga had when he transformed into a high-level Conceptual Spirit.
What the heck is this…?
‘MAMAAAAAAAAAAA! YOU FINALLY USED MEEEE?! GUHOOOOOOO~!’
“!?”
A voice echoed from the halo.
That tone was unmistakable—it was the voice of the Conceptual Spirit of the fantasy metal, [Hihiirokane].
“Where the hell are you talking from…?”
‘FROM THE CONCEPTUAL SPIRIT SEAL ZONE, GUGO! [HIHIIROKANE] IS A PRECIOUS CREATION FUELED BY MAMA’S SPIRITUAL POWER. WHEN I’M IN AN EXCITED STATE, WE CAN TALK, GUGO! ISN’T THAT GREAT, GUGO?!’
Not really…
“And why is there a halo above my head?”
‘THAT’S A PSEUDO-HALO, GUGO! IT TEMPORARILY TURNS MAMA INTO A PARTIAL CONCEPTUAL SPIRIT, GUGO.’
Partially turns me into a Conceptual Spirit?!
‘MURAMASA ONCE SAID, GUGO,—FANTASY MATERIALS ARE BORN FROM PEOPLE’S BELIEFS. [HIHIIROKANE] IS SOMETHING THAT APPEARED IN RELIGIOUS TEXTS. BECAUSE IT EASILY DRAWS ON HUMAN FAITH, IF WE USE THAT MATERIAL TO DECORATE THE WIELDER LIKE A CONCEPTUAL SPIRIT—’
“…Then the wielder takes on some of the properties of a Conceptual Spirit.”
The deadly mechanical wings extending from my waist and the glowing halo floating above my head.
Just as Riru feared, people in this world would think the same thing.
That I’m no longer human — that I’m a Conceptual Spirit or a monster.
‘SO THE MORE PEOPLE NOTICE YOU, THE STRONGER YOU GET, GUGO! IT’S NOT AS POWERFUL AS A REAL CONCEPTUAL SPIRIT, BUT YOU’LL BE FINE, MAMA! EVERYONE’S SUPER TERRIFIED OF YOU RIGHT NOW, GUGO!’
“Yeah, that’s not exactly comforting…”
I clenched my fist to test the power.
…Interesting. My already enhanced second-life body felt even stronger now.
My spiritual energy had also increased—not that I needed any more of it.
“So this is [Cursed Steel: Hellbird].”
It’s beyond just being strong equipment. It transforms the wielder into a ‘Conceptual Spirit-class biological weapon.’
Absolutely insane…
“Hah. Dressing up as a supernatural being is one thing, but did it have to be something angelic?”
‘THE [ANGEL] CLASS CONSISTS OF POWERFUL CONCEPTUAL SPIRITS, GUGO. IT’S GOOD IF PEOPLE ASSOCIATE YOU WITH THEM! OR… IS THAT A PROBLEM, GUGO?’
“I just don’t like them.”
—A memory popped into my head of a certain ‘meat angel’ giggling “Revolve, revolve~ ❤” while trying to kill me. What a nasty piece of work that one was…
“Grr… GRAAAOOOUUUUUHHHH…?!”
“Oh?”
Looks like Rouga’s vision was back.
I expected him to charge immediately, but… is he actually being cautious?
“Huh. So now that I’ve become a Conceptual Spirit like you, you’re hesitating.”
Conceptual Spirits have no qualms attacking humans.
But when it comes to other Conceptual Spirits, they’re more careful—like wild animals trying to respect each other’s territory.
Seriously?
“Well, that wouldn’t be much of a punishment, would it?”
He ruined my duel with my brother.
“I’m going to make you suffer. Struggle all you want.”
I leapt lightly into the air.
In an instant, the twelve deadly blades of my wings ignited with crimson particles, lifting me up to the eye level of the massive wolf.
I could feel it, as if my soul was connected to this weapon. There was a special mechanism inside—if I infused it with fire-based spiritual energy, it allowed me to fly.
“Interesting. Let’s try something like this.”
—Spirit Threads Connected. Control Initiated.
From each of my ten fingers, I extended threads, leaving two blades for propulsion while taking control of the other ten deadly wings.
Our minds linked. Responding to my murderous intent, the blades pointed at Rouga like cavalry readying their spears.
And then—
“Execute.”
“—?!”
The dissection began.
The blades propelled themselves with bursts of wind energy, slicing through the air. Ten flying blades of pure intent tore into the giant wolf in an instant—!
“GRAAAAHHH!!!”
“Come on, Rouga! Fight back!”
Ten strikes flashed. His enormous body was ripped open.
The razor-sharp blades pierced his flesh, scattering blood and gore. Each slash was accompanied by a sickening sound, and Rouga howled in agony.
Every flick of my fingers sent the blades dancing. Blood sprayed, turning the canopy into a hellscape of crimson rain.
—Because he could regenerate, the pain never stopped. Flesh tore and healed, only for ten more gashes to appear. He was trapped in an endless inferno of slashing agony.
“These blades cut well… as expected of fantasy metal. But we’re not done yet.”
I activated Object Imbuing, channeling [Blank Shot] into the spirit threads, pouring a massive amount of spiritual energy into them to generate extreme vibrations.
The result?
The [Hihiirokane] wings of death let out a screeching GIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!
“GaaaahhhGGGYYYYAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!”
Rouga screamed even louder.
This wasn’t just about sharper blades.
The ultra-hard, vibrating blades sank into his flesh and tore it apart with vibrational destruction, causing his blood loss to skyrocket.
“GYAAAAHHHHHH!!!”
His capillaries burst, and Rouga started drowning in his own blood mist.
His regeneration couldn’t keep up.
“Gyaaaahhh! KILL-KILL-KILLLLLL!!!”
Even so, his werewolf tenacity held strong.
Soaked in blood, he lunged forward, jaws wide, ready to devour me.
“Perfect. Let’s go with this, then.”
I let him swallow me whole. But—
“Charm Crafting: Technique Seizure – Bloodfang Homunculus.”
“GAH—BWUUUAAAAAARRRGHHH!!!”
Rouga coughed up blood, his jaws snapping open.
It wasn’t me attacking him. No — it was his own creations.
“Lord Kanata’s on fire~! We’re so happy~! Get to work, everyone~!”
“Awooooooo!”
Thirteen Bloodfang Wolves tore apart Rouga’s insides. Each of them had a talisman affixed to their heads.
They were now controlled by [Doll] I had distributed earlier.
“Riru gave up control of them. It would’ve been a waste to just get rid of them.”
Using their shadow-jumping ability, they appeared inside Rouga’s body.
With their teleportation and razor-sharp claws and fangs, they shredded deeper and deeper into his unprotected flesh.
“GRAAAAAAHHHHH!!!”
“Let’s finish this.”
I raised my hand toward the sky.
“Gather, Hellbirds. Form your ranks.”
The twelve blades aligned above me, pointing skyward.
Like a Tower of Babel, they reached higher and higher, converging at the tip of my hand.
From the blades — an explosion of dark light burst forth, so intense it dimmed the entire world.
“Gah… ah… aaaaahhhh…?!”
“Curious, are you? About this light?”
The truth of this light — it was pure chaos.
All elemental spiritual energies fused together inside the weapon, endlessly colliding, merging, and repelling, forming a light of pure annihilation.
This was the ultimate form of destruction. If it touched even a single cell, it would destabilize the very DNA, leading to fatal damage.
“This is the ‘Phantom Particle Destruction Beam.’ Or, to put it simply…”
Something close to nuclear fission in modern science.
“It’s a ‘Nuclear Split Beam.’”
“Grrrk… gaaaaaahhhhh—?!”
For the first time today, pure terror consumed the wolf’s face.
He whimpered like a frightened pup — but it was too late now.
“Goodbye, Rouga.”
For desecrating the duel between men—
“Regret it until you die.”
I swung the beam of annihilation downward.
“GYAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!”
His death cry echoed through the air.
The colossal wolf’s scream roared toward the heavens, and then—he and the entire canopy exploded into oblivion.

[Tips]
[Phantom Particle Destruction Beam]:
An imaginary-element beam created by combining fire, water, wind, earth, and lightning spiritual energy.
It is considered the pinnacle of chaos, an endless cycle of fusion and repulsion.
Proposed by: Reisou Science Researcher — Saina Hiraga.
This beam’s radiance cannot occur naturally.
Spiritual energy is essentially life energy — similar to blood.
Each type of spiritual energy has a unique ‘form’, making it impossible to mix with another’s energy.
Transferring spiritual energy between humans is also virtually impossible without using a specific method.
Therefore, to generate the Phantom Particle Destruction Beam, an individual Reisoushi must possess all five elemental attributes.
Historically, this has been reported only a handful of times.
Additionally, the balance of the elements is critical.
If even one of the five elements is slightly stronger, the cycle of fusion and repulsion collapses, causing the spiritual energy to explode—usually with fatal consequences for the Reisoushi.
Thus, creating the Phantom Particle Destruction Beam requires a Reisoushi with mastery over all elemental attributes, supported by external mechanical calibration to achieve perfect balance.
By the way, as Moyoko (who is currently crying because everything has gone completely off the rails) mentioned back in Chapter 30, normal machines can’t interfere with spiritual energy since it’s life energy.
That means you need fantasy metals to work with spiritual energy. And even then, processing those metals requires an expert Spiritcraft Blacksmith who also needs to have advanced electronic engineering skills. In other words:
Impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible upon impossible.
That’s what the Phantom Particle Destruction Beam is.
However—

“I have found… THE MIRACLE PERSON OF MY DREAMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
