Chapter 15: I’ll Kill You, Kanata Soranaki!
Wait, wait. A kunai just came flying at me? What?
This… it was definitely aimed at me, wasn’t it?
“Tch, you read my move!”
While I was still in shock, I heard that voice.
“Avoiding that strike… as expected of a monster.”
Then she appeared—a small, cute girl dressed in a mini-skirt ninja outfit.
She looked about ten years old, with long blue hair and elegant white hair accessories. They gave her a clean, stylish appearance.
As she stood in front of me, her eyes widened in surprise as she looked me over.
“Whoa, tiny face, pale skin, skinny body… wait, that’s not the point!”
Shaking her head vigorously, the ninja girl pointed her kunai at me.
“Prepare yourself, Kanata Soranaki! If it’s come to this, I’ll face you head-on!”
She glared at me, this cosplay ninja girl.
Hmm… she looks familiar somehow… oh, right.
“Are you Miss Sharo Kirisame?”
“Wha—! How do you know my name!?”
Sharo froze, startled, her reaction making her jump slightly. Ah, my bad.
“You’re the daughter of the renowned Reisoushi family, the Kirisame household.”
“Mmm… I see. Well, yes, my family is famous after all…”
Yes, this girl is from the prestigious Kirisame family.
Her blue-toned hair is a signature trait. That family’s lineage has always produced people with water-element spiritual energy, and as a result, their hair tends to be shades of blue or aqua.
There are other families like this too—like the Hououji or the Todo. Ah, let me stretch out my threads while I’m at it.
“I’ve heard many stories about the Kirisame family. Particularly about the First-Class Reisoushi, Setsuna Kirisame. She’s well-known and said to be highly trusted by Commander Ouma.”
“Fufufu~! That’s because Sister Setsuna is strong, beautiful, smart, and she’s got big boobs! Of course, she’d catch Lord Ouma’s eye!”
Sharo puffed out her modest chest proudly. Cute.
Hmm… she’s adorable, but I feel bad for her.
Because this girl… in two months, during the battle against the Conceptual Spirit of [Erasure], she’s going to die in one of the most gruesome ways imaginable.
“But—huh!? I got carried away for a moment! Curses, Kanata Soranaki. I didn’t come here to chat with you today—”
“You came to kill me, didn’t you?”
“Eh?”
“Sharo Kirisame, the dropout of the Spirit Conductor Academy. Unlike Miss Setsuna, who passed her qualification exam at the age of ten, Sharo doesn’t seem capable of accomplishing that at all.”
“Wait, wait!”
“So Sharo came up with a plan: ‘Even if my skills are weak, they say people with unique abilities or remarkable achievements can be given special exemptions to pass. I’ll give it a shot.'”
“Wait, wait, wait!?”
“And so, you decided to try killing me, right?”
“How do you know thattt!?”
Sharo’s small body trembled as she shook violently. So adorable.
…Of course, I know. It’s from a famous article on the internet.
“Heh… (A week from now, you’ll obviously fail the qualification exam. Panicked, you’ll recklessly head to the battlefield two months later, where the highest-ranking Conceptual Spirit, [Erasure], appears, hoping to achieve some glory.)”
And then… Sharo was toyed with by [Erasure].
First, her entire skin was erased.
Sharo screamed as she turned into a pink humanoid figure. Every sensation, felt with her exposed flesh, must have been excruciating.
Next, laughing, [Erasure] erased her abdominal muscles.
Her organs began spilling out in an instant. Sharo desperately clutched at her guts, crying and wailing.
Amused, [Erasure] then erased the tendons in her arms and legs.
Sharo’s arms went limp, and she collapsed. Like a toppled anatomical model, her organs splattered onto the ground.
“Aaaaarghhh! It hurrrts! It hurts so baddddd!!!”
And so, Sharo sank into a sea of her own organs.
Reduced to something like maggots in a toilet bowl, she was slowly erased from the edges of her limbs until her entire existence vanished, all at the whim of [Erasure].
Only her torn vocal cords, shredded from her screams, were left intact until the very end.
“You’re quite famous, you know.”
—Given that she’s from a prestigious family, this shocking incident naturally spread far and wide.
It became a cautionary tale of what happens when someone rushes to succeed… and a lasting stain on the reputation of the Kirisame family. Sharo’s name would be remembered for a long time.
“By the way, your Conceptual Spirit is [Ninja], isn’t it? That outfit and speech pattern are techniques to align yourself more closely with the spirit, making synchronization easier, right?”
“Eeeeehh!? You know everything about me!?”
Come to think of it, Maro also has that odd, old-fashioned speech style with his ‘de gozaru (Indeed).’
Not that it makes sense—his Conceptual Spirit is [Octopus], so it’s completely irrelevant. Seriously, what’s up with him? I mean, I like him, though.
“Terrifying, Kanata… truly a monster. But if I kill you, surely I’ll earn special qualification for the test! Prepare yourself!”
Sharo lunged at me.
She was decently fast. Looks like she managed to use Spirit-Charged Limbs to enhance her body with spiritual energy.
But—
“You’re too careless.”
I flicked my index finger upward.
The transparent thread I’d wrapped around her ankle earlier tightened, yanking her off balance.
“Gozah!?” Sharo grunted as she tumbled to the ground.
That speech style is so strange.
“W-What just happened… wait, is this thread!? When did this happen!?”
“During our conversation. Against an enemy, you need to stay more alert.”
If this were a real battlefield, you’d already be dead, Sharo.
High-level Conceptual Spirits with high intelligence often pretend to be friendly just to kill you.
All they care about is imposing their concept on humans for their own satisfaction. Let your guard down, and you’re just a toy to them.
And then there are the malicious Reisoushi—the so-called Mediums. Being human, they’re even worse, laying traps that are far more devious and insidious.
“Curses, you monster! You were so much calmer than in the videos; I let my guard down!”
Well, my body has been behaving ever since Dad told me to “speak politely to elders.”
I’m literally zero years old, after all.
“I won’t hold back anymore! I’ll kill you with everything I’ve got!”
Sharo cut the thread with her kunai and summoned her Conceptual Spirit, [Ninja].
“I’ll finish you with this technique! Spirit Hosting, activate! Reside within me, [Ninja]!”
In an instant, her stance changed.
She moved soundlessly into a perfect posture. Her upper body lowered like a predator preparing to pounce, while her lower body coiled like a tightly drawn spring gripping the ground.
Impressive. She’s perfectly tracing [Ninja]’s techniques, designed for silent and instantaneous assassinations.
“But…”
“Guhh…!”
Sharo groaned in pain, her complexion growing pale as blood drained from her face.
“You’re burning through too much spiritual energy. You can’t control Spirit Hosting properly, and your body isn’t developed enough to handle it.”
“Shut up!”
She held a kunai in a reverse grip and formed a seal with her other hand.
“I know I’m inexperienced! That’s exactly why—I’ll end this in one strike!”
A burst of spiritual energy, thin and strained, erupted from Sharo.
Then—
“Ninja Art: Suiton—Kirisame Scattershot!“
Her spiritual energy transformed into countless raindrops, which shot toward me like bullets.
“Oh.”
It really was a scattershot attack, just like her name suggests. The physical damage seemed low, but I swung my spirit threads with both hands, deflecting every single drop.
With my enhanced physical ability, [Doll]’s precise control eliminating any instability, and the autonomous adjustments from the imbued [Ittan-momen], it was easy to block even rain coming from the sides.
The deflected water dispersed into a fine mist around us.
“Are we finished?”
“Hmph! The only one finished here is you!”
Sharo grinned slyly. At that moment, her figure blurred.
She dissolved into the misty Kirisame scattershot—this must be…
“Ninja Art: Suiton—Kirisame Mirage!“
She reappeared behind me, shouting as her kunai slashed toward my neck.
“I’ve won!”
Impressive. Truly worthy of a child from a noble family. She’s much stronger than I expected.
But—
“You didn’t think it through enough.”
“Eh?”
Thwap! Her hand holding the kunai was caught mid-swing.
A scarf, moving like a tail, had completely stopped her attack.
“What!? Don’t tell me… you imbued your scarf with Object Imbuing!?”
“Distributed imbuing. Unlike Spirit Hosting, which wraps a spirit around the body, Object Imbuing wraps a spirit around objects—and it can be done on multiple targets at once.”
It’s like spreading cotton to cover two objects simultaneously. While this doubles the spiritual energy consumption, with my current body, it’s hardly an issue.
“I had you in my blind spot…!”
“But you left yourself wide open.”
Still, don’t forget one thing.
“Reisoushi never fight alone.”
A golden-haired, nude, bandaged beauty appeared, clinging to me protectively.
It was [Ittan-momen], who had just defended me. Spinning her glowing spiritual halo above her head, she glanced at Sharo and asked, “Can I strangle this kid~?”
“Go ahead.”
“Yaaaahoooo!”
[Ittan-momen] exploded with high energy as the scarf slithered like a giant snake, coiling around the ninja girl’s entire body.
“Hyhiiiii! Let go, you monster! W-What are you planning to do to me!?”
“What else? You tried to kill me, so I’ll return the favor.”
“Hieee!“
“Just kidding.”
Her panicked, tearful reaction was honestly adorable.
I could imagine her sister, Setsuna, doting on her endlessly. Even my body seemed amused, chuckling mischievously with an air of malice.
“I won’t kill you. But…”
I slowly pointed my finger at her broad forehead. Then—
“You’ll feel a little pain, at least.”
With a sharp flick to her forehead, I delivered a solid hit.
Sharo shouted, “Gozahhh!” before fainting on the spot. Rest in peace.

[Tips]
Cosplay:
A respectable skill for a Reisoushi.
Associating one’s appearance with a spirit increases the synchronization rate for Spirit Hosting.
It also allows any worn items to become targets for Object Imbuing, so many practitioners use this technique.
Michitaka Soranaki, for instance, sews dove feathers into the lining of his clothes.
Kanata wearing the dress made by [Doll] serves the same purpose.
It’s not because [Doll] looks sad when Kanata tries to take it off… probably.
Distributed Imbuing:
A skill used in Object Imbuing or Charm Crafting.
By pouring in more spiritual energy, the spirit’s soul can temporarily expand, allowing multiple objects to be imbued with spiritual effects.
Essential for hosting dual-sword-wielding samurai spirits or similar applications.
Ninja Arts:
A special type of Spirit Conduction made possible by hosting a [Ninja]-type spirit.
Under the process of forming specific hand seals and shouting the technique’s name, supernatural phenomena are created using spiritual energy.
The effectiveness of the technique varies depending on the attribute of the spiritual energy.
Other similar arts include Magic and Law Arts.
Mediums:
Refers to malicious Reisoushis who use Spirit Conduction for criminal purposes.
This term also applies to individuals whose Spirit Hosting has failed, resulting in their body being completely taken over by a spirit.
In essence, it describes someone who either uses a spirit as a medium for evil or has become a medium for a spirit themselves.
In either case, such individuals are treated as targets for extermination, similar to Conceptual Spirits.
