- Chapter 6 - Profound Relief
Profound Relief
I thought I fell asleep during the call with Setsuna last night, but it seems like she ended the call for me.
I sit up, stretch my body, and bask in the sunlight.
…memories of yesterday’s incident come to mind.
Yesterday, I had a lot of mixed emotions.
As memories of Yukina came flooding back, I felt overwhelmed.
But now that I’ve somewhat sorted out my feelings, what’s this anger welling up inside me?
It’s not hatred or annoyance, but something else.
Negative emotions are bubbling inside me, I can’t do anything about it.
“Hah…”
Taking a deep breath, I calm my mind and gaze out the window.
It’s sunny and the sky is clear today.
I swing open the window, taking a deep breath of fresh air once more.
By doing so, I feel my troubled heart from earlier feels a little bit better.
Instead of Yukina, Setsuna comes to my mind.
Even though Setsuna must’ve had complicated feelings towards her sister, she still hugged me and held my hand.
She even called to check on me last night, I can’t thank her enough.
If Setsuna wasn’t there with me, I would’ve been more deeply hurt.
Probably, I would’ve shut myself inside my room all day long.
Since it’s Sunday, there are things I want to do, such as household chores and studying.
Leaving my room, I go to the living room.
Even though it’s still early in the morning, I see my dad standing in the kitchen.
“Good morning, Dad. Are you making breakfast?”
“Good morning, Yukito. Yeah, I promised that I’ll cook for the weekend, didn’t I?”
“Ah, yeah. That’s right. Well, I’m looking forward to it.”
“Well, it’s just a regular breakfast though.”
“It feels special because Dad makes it.”
“I see. You are really like Eri-san. Even the words you just said sound like something she would say.”
“Thanks. I’m happy to hear that.”
“Oh, by the way, Eri-san will come visit us around lunchtime today.”
“Seriously!! Why didn’t you tell me earlier? I want to make a delicious lunch for Eri-san!!”
“I wanted to tell you about it, but lately, you seem down. Also, you didn’t come out of your room after dinner last night…”
“Ah…I see. Sorry about that.”
Certainly, quite a lot of things happened recently regarding Yukina, and I do feel a little bit down about it.
This is entirely my fault, so I apologized to Dad.
Anyway, it’s been a while since I last met Eri-san.
I think it was about two months ago?
I wish we can meet regularly, but Eri-san is a busy person, so I don’t get to see her that often.
I feel much better after knowing Eri-san is coming to visit us today.
Also, the breakfast Dad made was delicious too.
I choose a casual outfit and head to the supermarket.
Eri-san would probably say that she doesn’t need anything fancy made especially for her, but this is my way of repaying her kindness.
Right now, this the only thing I can do for Eri-san.
Well, it’s a bit awkward since the ingredients aren’t bought with my own money.
Entering the supermarket, I grab the ingredients I need.
Then, I line up at the register, pack them into my bag, and leave the supermarket.
While on my way back home, I receive a notification on my phone.
I wonder who it is?
I check it out and see it’s from Yukina.
What does she want now?
‘Do you want to go on a date today? At your place or mine is fine.’
I quietly put my phone back into my pocket and continue walking home.
I need to go home quickly and prepare lunch.
As soon as I get home, I start to prepare lunch.
Because, Eri-san likes tomatoes, I want to make tomato chicken stew and pasta with tomatoes for her.
Since I’ve made both dishes a few times before, I finished cooking them in no time.
When I look at the time, It’s almost noon.
Just then, the intercom rings.
When I go to the front door to answer it, Eri-san is standing there.
To me, Eri-san like my second mother. She is truly beautiful.
She has a slim, slender and tall figure with a bob cut hairstyle.
It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that she looks like a model.
I can tell that she was quite popular back in her high school days.
“Yukito, it’s been a while. How have you been?”
“Yeah, Eri-san. Please come in. You haven’t had lunch yet, right?”
“Not yet.”
“I made lunch for you, Eri-san.” “
“How many times do I have to tell you? You don’t have to make it just for me, you know?”
“Let me at least do this much, please.”
When I say so, Eri-san smiles and gently pat my head.
After letting Eri-san inside and sit her down, Dad comes to the living toom.
While they’re talking, I prepare the food and set it on the table.
As I take my seat, my father clasps his hands together, so I do the same.
“““Itadakimasu.”””
I want to start eating, but I can’t move my spoon because I’m too focused on Eri-san’s reaction.
Eri-san takes a bite, chews, and swallows. Then…
“It’s really delicious, Yukito.”
“Thank you.”
“I should the one thanking you. You made these because you know I like tomato dishes, right?”
“Yes. I just want to make you happy, Eri-san.”
“Just looking at Yukito grow up is more than enough for me. However, thank you, Yukito.”
Eri-san smiles gently.
Eri-san is a strict person, but when I do things like this for her, she praises me.
She is truly a kind person, I like seeing Eri-san’s smile.
After enjoying lunch, Dad leaves us alone saying he has something to do. I think he left to give us some space.
“By the way, Yukito…”
“What is it, Eri-san?”
“Did something happen recently?”
“Eh?”
“It’s just that today, you seem a bit different from your usual self. I hope I’m wrong.”
“Well, you see…”
I thought I’m fine right now, but it seems like Eri-san noticed that something is bothering me.
I’ve already told Eri-san that I’m dating Yukina.
I think it should be okay to tell Eri-san. She won’t tell anyone else about it, and maybe she can even give me some advice.
“Well, actually…”
I tell Eri-san about my girlfriend cheating on me.
After listening to me, Eri-san pauses for a moment before speaking.
“So, what do you want to do, Yukito? That’s what matters.”
“What do I want to do?”
“Yes. What do you want to do with your relationship with Yukina, that’s what’s important. Do you want to break up with her? Do you want to repair the relationship? Do you want revenge? Or do you just want to cut ties with her and move on?”
What do I want to do with Yukina, huh?
What do I want to do Yukina?
I ponder that question once again.
“…I’m going to break up with Yukina, and I don’t want to have anything to do with her anymore.”
“I see. If that’s what you want Yukito, then it’s fine. Honestly, I feel nothing but anger towards that girl.”
“Why is that?”
“Of course. She betrayed my son. If it were a more serious situation, legal action could be taken, but this is just a student’s love affair after all. It would be a different story if you were married.”
“No, it’s okay. I don’t want to trouble you, Eri-san. This is my problem.”
“Yeah, but if there’s anything you want to discuss, don’t hesitate to rely on me. You’re not just my sister’s son, but you’re like my own son too.”
“Yeah.”
“Yukito, come here.”
“Hmm? Okay.”
As I approach Eri-san, she pulls me into a tight hug.
Ah, this is really nostalgic, it feels really comforting.
