Voices of Happiness
“Okay, for PE, you’ll run six laps around the field. I know you might not like it. Even I used to wonder why we had to marathon back in my school days, but well, all of the things we do in class have a purpose, so let’s give it our best shot.”
There are a few students who expressed their dissatisfaction at the teacher’s words, but complaining won’t change anything, so I just prepare myself for the marathon without saying anything.
Besides, if I can improve my time in this marathon, there will be a reward waiting for me.
So, I’m definitely more motivated than usual.
As I’m casually chatting with my friends, I suddenly feel like someone is looking at me, so I turn my gaze in that direction.
It’s Setsuna, our gazes meet.
Even though she is in a different class than me, we have the same PE class together.
When our eyes meet, Setsuna waves her hand in front of her chest, so I wave back in her direction as well.
Then, she smiles happily and seem to say something.
‘Do your best.’
Alright, I’m motivated now.
As soon as the teacher’s signal comes, we all start running at once.

Setsuna’s POV
The boys’ marathon has finished, and now it’s the time for girls.
I’ve always been watching over Yukito, but today I feel like he’s putting in even more effort than usual.
Perhaps, I’m just imagining things too much?
But I hope he did his best because of my support and he’s looking forward for the reward.
Of course, I’m also aiming to improve my time in this marathon.
I want to get my reward from Yukito.
I have to give it my all.
As I reach the halfway point, maintaining my pace, someone comes up from behind and run alongside me.
“…Setsuna.”
The person who is running beside me is Onee-chan.
“Hmm? What’s wrong, Onee-chan?”
I replied so as if nothing happened.
“Um, well, you see…”
“What’s wrong?”
“Umm…”
I’m sure she wants to ask me about various things, such as Onee-chan’s affair and her break up Yukito, but she probably can’t find the right words because she doesn’t know how much I already know.
“I’m sorry, Onee-chan. I have a reason to do my best in this marathon, so I’ll go ahead.”
“Eh, yeah, I-I see.”
I’m sure Onee-chan who followed us to school knows why I’m pushing myself really hard.
Tonight, I’ll make sure Onee-chan hears our happy voices again.
I’ll share our happiness with her.
A Heart with Nowhere to Go
As for the results of the marathon, thanks to Setsuna’s support, my record has improved by several tens of seconds compared to before.
Then, Setsuna quietly approaches me after the PE class.
“I heard your time improved right, Yukito? Mine too…so let’s talk again tonight, also how about we walk home together today?”
Setsuna told me so.
I was feeling troubled because Yukina keeps bothering me since this morning, however hearing Setsuna says so makes me feel a lot better.
After the rest of the classes ends, I try to go straight to the meeting place with Setsuna, but…
“U-Umm…Yukito.”
“……”
Even though I intended to ignore her, I instinctively stopped when she called out to me.
Without looking back, I try to walk away.
“I’m sorry…”
Yukina said so softly.
Surprisingly, she didn’t say anything more and she didn’t try to stop me.

Yukina’s POV
“I’m sorry.”
Even though I said so, Yukito keeps walking without turning his back.
It’s all my fault that it turned out like this.
It’s all because my foolishness, I’m truly worthless.
Even this act of apologizing to Yukito might be selfish, but I believe it’s my last hope.
I must not give up.
…however, my heart is swirling with anxiety.
The reason of it is because I overheard my younger sister, Setsuna, and Yukito’s cheerful conversation last night.
Then to make it worse, I saw them happily going to school together this morning.
It’s really painful.
I’m sure that Yukina must already know that I broke up with Yukito. She must also know about the awful things I did to him.
Despite knowing that Setusna likes Yukito, I still went ahead and confessed my feelings to Yukito, I even cheated on him.
I’m truly a despicable person.
I can’t even imagine how angry Setsuna is towards me.
I might be overthinking it, but I can’t help but wonder if Setsuna purposely put her call with Yukito last night on speakers so that I could hear their cheerful voices.
Perhaps, I’ll hear them again tonight.
No, judging from this morning’s conversation, I’ll definitely hear them again tonight.
If Yuito-san and Mom finds out about what I did to Yukito, I’ll be helpless.
I’ll surely have no one to confide to.
Feeling depressed, I head straight to work from school today since I have a shift.
I think today…I have the same shift as Senpai.
Hah…I’m no good at all.
My weak heart has nowhere to go.
