Vol 1 Chapter 7 – Earning Money and Fabrication【Vol 1: A Man Who Wants to Buy a Slave】
After setting the rules for living together, my life with Nemu officially began.
Honestly, I wasn’t thrilled about living with a girl who wasn’t a slave. But well, she listened to what I said surprisingly well, and if I had to choose between living with Nemu or some other selfish pumpkin, Nemu was somewhat better.
“I made two days’ worth of food just in case! Make sure you eat it all without leaving anything!”
“Mm, got it.”
I pointed at the refrigerator in the kitchen as I told Nemu. Wrapped in fish-patterned pajamas I’d bought her as thanks when we went to buy the maid outfit yesterday, Nemu rubbed her eyes and nodded slowly.
Starting today, I’d be away from town for two days to earn money.
“Follow the rules even while I’m gone! Don’t mess up the house!”
“Okay.”
Nemu nodded slowly while yawning at my instructions. I worried whether she was actually listening, but well, she’d probably be fine.
“Alright then, I’m heading out! You can sleep, but don’t sleep too much!”
“Mm. Have a safe trip.”
Hearing “have a safe trip” for the first time in ages made me feel strangely ticklish inside. The person saying it probably meant nothing by it, but somehow it felt like I had a family. Height-wise, she was like a troublesome little sister.
Feeling a bit embarrassed, I closed the door and locked it. Just before it shut, I glimpsed Nemu heading upstairs through the gap. She’d probably go back to sleep now.
“Alright! Time to knock out a quick hunt and come back!”
Psyching myself up, I headed toward town.
Today I planned to go to the Adventurers Guild and take on a quest. To win my target slave at the slave auction, I needed a lot of money. I had to take on quests that would let me earn as much as possible, as quickly as possible.
Arriving at the Adventurers Guild, I immediately headed to the board where quests were posted and searched for ones I could accept at my rank. Finding my target quest, I grabbed the paper and headed to the reception desk.
“Oh, if it isn’t Yuuki! What quest are you taking today!?”
When I brought the quest form over, a man with an eyepatch over one eye called out to me.
“Been a while, Furla. I’m thinking of taking the Dragon Sage Flower gathering quest today. It’s a pain, but the reward’s good.”
Dragon Sage Flowers were flowers that bloomed in certain specific locations and served as ingredients for healing potions, antidotes, and the like. They weren’t particularly rare, but because they grew in highly dangerous areas, they traded at high prices.
Furla took the quest form and stared at it with a surprised expression.
“Geh, seriously!? Dragon Sage Flowers are those flowers that grow around the middle of the Boltz Mountains, right!? There are Wyverns around there, you know? If you get attacked and injured, it won’t be worth it! Don’t do it!”
Furla waved his hand horizontally in front of his face. He was right—if attacked by a Wyvern, a solo B-rank adventurer would be killed in an instant.
But that only applied to ordinary B-rank adventurers. It didn’t apply to someone with cheats like me. That said, I wasn’t stupid enough to announce that openly.
“I’ll be fine. I’m good at stealth, and I’m pretty fast at running away. I plan to take my time with it.”
“Well, if you say so… Alright then! Go get ’em!”
Though looking a bit worried, Furla stamped the receipt. I thanked him and headed straight for the Boltz Mountains.
The Hunt
Having arrived at the Boltz Mountains, I’d already finished gathering the Dragon Sage Flowers for the collection quest and was now hunting my target Wyvern.
“Guruooooo!!”
[Species] Wyvern
[Lv] 40
[HP] 3300/3300
[Magic Power] 750/750
[Attack] B+
[Defense] C+
[Agility] A+
[Intelligence] D
[Luck] D
[Skills]
- Dragon Claw
- Bite
A pale green dragon-like creature flying freely through the sky. It let out an intimidating roar at the human who’d stepped into its territory. Apparently, it had mistaken me for prey. Judging by the fact that its body had not a single scratch, it had probably never encountered anyone stronger than itself. That’s why it misjudged the difference in our strength.
“Stop your squawking, it’s annoying! Sorry, but I’m ending this in one hit!”
I activated Jump magic right there, leaping above the Wyvern’s head in an instant. Having lost sight of me, the Wyvern looked around the ground. I took that opportunity to land on its head and thrust my sword straight into its skull.
“Guroo…”
After a small cry, both wings stopped moving completely, and the Wyvern began falling toward the ground. I cast Fly magic on both myself and the Wyvern’s corpse, slowing our descent.
After quietly landing on the ground without being noticed, I adjusted the Wyvern’s position to make it easier to work and began my fabrication.
“Alright. First, let’s cut off the right wing with this greatsword…”
I pulled out a greatsword from my god-given Dimensional Storage and severed the right wing in one stroke at the base. After adding some random damage to that wing, I unleashed magic at the opposite wing.
“Wind Edge! Okay, the wing processing looks good!”
Looking at the wing shredded by the wind magic Wind Edge, I nodded with satisfaction. Seeing these damaged wings, the Guild folks would think “a Wyvern that fell to the ground and couldn’t fly.”
“Now to remove the poison stinger from the tail… better burn the cut section. Fireball!”
I carefully removed the Wyvern’s valuable poison stinger without damaging it. Then, to cover up the evidence so it wouldn’t be discovered, I just needed to burn the cut surface and mess it up.
“With this, I can say that even B-rank me got lucky and defeated a Wyvern! Alright, now I just need to stuff this corpse in my magic bag and submit it at the Guild!”
I stuffed the Wyvern’s corpse into the cloth bag hanging at my waist. Though it clearly wasn’t big enough to fit a corpse, this was a cloth bag enchanted with magic similar to Dimensional Storage. Though items aged over time inside, it was a magical tool that could store things dozens of times larger than the bag itself.
“Okay, quest complete—time to head back! On the way home, I’ll go through Lenoma Forest and hunt some White Wolves! Their pelts sell for surprisingly high prices!”
Having accomplished all my objectives, I headed home with a cheerful expression.
