Vol 1 Chapter 1 – A Man Named Yuuki【Vol 1: A Man Who Wants to Buy a Slave】
Reincarnation in Another World
It had been nearly forty years since I encountered that miracle and began living in this world, “Varitaria.” For someone who had lived peacefully in my previous world, surviving in a fantasy world of swords and magic was no easy feat.
But somehow, I’ve managed to keep living.
In my past life, I upheld my virginity and accumulated a decent amount of good karma. As a result, though I died at the young age of forty, I was granted a new life.
When I reincarnated, a god or something told me, “A Demon Lord will appear in thirty years. Please train yourself to defeat him.” And so, I was bestowed with cheat abilities. For two years after that, I desperately trained myself just as the god instructed, honing my skills to the point where I believed no human could match me.
Though I was attacked by monsters and nearly died countless times, I kept fighting with everything I had. All to fulfill the one wish the god had asked of me.
◇
Ortelia, a major city in the Rodest Kingdom. Even as the sun set and the moon began to illuminate the streets, the city remained lively. In a tavern frequented by adventurers, I steeled my resolve.
“Listen, you two… the day has finally come.”
I quietly announced this to the two men sitting across from me. Hearing my words, they both twitched their eyebrows slightly.
“I see.”
“If that’s what you’ve decided, Yuuki, we won’t say anything more.”
With that, they both downed the remaining alcohol in their glasses in one gulp. Their gazes fixed on the empty glasses seemed somehow lonely. They were probably mourning their farewell to the current me, who would be leaving on a journey tomorrow. But I won’t stop now. No—I can’t stop.
“Zeke, Rain… tomorrow, I’m buying a slave!!!”
My dream since coming to this world—no, since I lived in my previous world. It’s to spend my entire life getting cozy with cute slaves.
To make that happen, I diligently completed monster extermination quests I didn’t even want to do, stayed at Ortelia’s cheapest inn, and just the other day, I finally saved up the amount I estimated I’d need to purchase a slave. Now I can finally go welcome my destined slave-chan.
Despite me making such a momentous announcement, Zeke didn’t celebrate at all. Instead, he raised his eyebrows and openly displayed his irritation.
“Do whatever you want, you perverted bastard! We didn’t drink with you to hear this stupid shit!”
“What’d you say, Zeke! Tomorrow’s the day I finally buy the slave I’ve been dreaming about! Are you calling my resolve stupid?!”
My long-held dream insulted, I instinctively grabbed Zeke by the collar. Not backing down, Zeke grabbed my collar right back.
“You fantasize about slaves way too much! Think about how we feel having to listen to your creepy fantasy stories every single night!! What was it—’Master, may I sleep with you? I… I had a scary dream’—like you want to hear that shit! There’s no way a slave like that exists in this world!”
“Zeke, you bastard… you just made fun of my Top 10 Things I Want to Hear!? I’m gonna kill youuuu!!”
Enraged by Zeke’s comment, I threw a punch at his face while raising my voice. Seeing this, the people around us started egging us on.
“Oh, what’s this, a fight!? Get him, get him!”
As if responding to those voices, Zeke stood up and swung his fist toward my stomach. Just as the battle to determine whose side was right—my dream or Zeke’s anger—was about to begin, Rain jumped between us.
Rain stopped both our fists. But there was no way we’d calm down so easily when we were this heated up.
“Hey Rain, don’t get in the way! I’m about to unleash all my pent-up frustration on this perverted bastard!”
“Just calm down, Zeke! Yuuki, you’ve got an early day tomorrow, right? Shouldn’t you head back to the inn early and purify yourself? You’re going to welcome a slave, so you should go in top condition!”
Rain’s words made me snap back to reality, and I quietly lowered my fist.
That’s right—I didn’t have time for such a ridiculous fight right now. Zeke’s attitude pissed me off, and I wanted to beat the crap out of him immediately, but if I show him reality tomorrow, Zeke will surely accept his mistake.
I need to be the adult here.
“You’re right! Sorry, Zeke! My bad for making things weird! Here, buy yourself something good with this!”
I pulled two gold coins from my pocket, placed them on the table, and bowed my head to Zeke. Then I quickly gathered my belongings and expressed my gratitude to Rain.
“Thanks, Rain! As a reward, I’ll let you be the first to see my slave-chan tomorrow! Zeke, you better look forward to it too! See ya!”
After bidding farewell to the two, I left the tavern and ran toward the inn. Today I’ll splurge and use soap. Then I need to carefully prepare for tomorrow. There can’t be any mistakes.
As I ran down the moonlit night road, I let my thoughts drift to the “destined slave-chan” I would meet tomorrow.
◇
After Yuuki left the tavern, Zeke used the two gold coins left on the table to order new appetizers and expensive alcohol. Even while savoring the drink he didn’t usually have, his anger toward Yuuki still hadn’t subsided, and Zeke glared at Rain.
“Hey Rain! Why’d you take Yuuki’s side! You were sick of listening to that guy’s stories every night too!”
For the past year and a half since meeting Yuuki, Zeke and Rain had been forced to listen to disturbing stories. Zeke was irritated that the person he thought felt the same way had taken a different stance than him.
To such a Zeke, Rain casually replied.
“Well, yeah. But if you think about it ending today, doesn’t that make you feel better? Besides, if you ignore the slave obsession, Yuuki’s a good guy!”
“He’s a good guy, but he’s still a pervert! Ah, damn it, fine! You’re drinking with me till morning! Then we’ll call what happened earlier even!”
Zeke reluctantly downed the remaining alcohol in his glass and immediately raised his hand to order another. Seeing this, Rain hurriedly stopped Zeke’s hand.
“Hey Zeke, knock it off! Let’s call it a day and save the fun for tomorrow!”
“Huh? What stupid shit are you saying! Days like this are exactly when we should drink! We’re gonna have to listen to Yuuki’s creepy bragging stories again starting tomorrow!”
“Just listen to me! Tomorrow we’ll be able to drink even better alcohol!”
Rain continued to explain his reasoning to Zeke.
Suddenly, Zeke’s dissatisfied expression transformed into a broad smile. And without drinking any more alcohol, the two headed to the inn, following after Yuuki.
