Chapter 27 – The Son Is Asked by the Promising New Adventurer to Let Her Join His Party
The day after fighting with Mom.
Ryuuji walked toward the Adventurers Guild with a gloomy expression.
“Ryuuji-kun. What’s wrong?”
Walking beside him was the rabbit beastman girl Sheila.
“…Oh, uh, yeah. It’s nothing.”
Ryuuji forced a smile, but Sheila’s face stayed clouded.
“You don’t look like it’s nothing. You seem really down… Is it about yesterday?”
“…………”
He hesitated whether to tell her.
But in the end,
“I’m fine. Really, it’s nothing. Sorry for worrying you.”
He hid his true feelings.
…It would have been easy to say it.
That he had fought with Mom and made her sad, and he couldn’t stop thinking about it.
But for a boy right in the middle of puberty, worrying about his mother and then talking about it with a girl his own age… just felt lame.
“…I see.”
Sheila’s face didn’t brighten at all.
“If you don’t want to talk about it, you don’t have to.”
She looked a little lonely as she said it.
“Ah, it’s not that I don’t trust you or anything! It really is nothing.”
He started speaking faster without realizing it.
He just didn’t want Sheila to hate him.
Chatting like that with Sheila, Ryuuji and the others arrived at the Adventurers Guild.
Inside the guild… it was buzzing.
Everyone was crowded around the reception desk.
“Insane!” “She’s a genius!” “The promising rookie has arrived!!!!”
“Something happen?”
Sheila tilted her head.
“Dunno? Want to go take a look?”
They were heading to the reception desk anyway, so they might as well check it out on the way.
As Ryuuji and Sheila walked toward the back counter, the commotion grew louder.
“Did you hear about the newbie who joined the guild yesterday!?”
“Yeah! They say she’s ridiculously strong!”
The closer they got, the more gossip reached their ears.
“First off, her strength rating was SS-rank right from the start!”
The guild used special equipment to measure a new member’s power when they joined.
Ryuuji had done it too and started at F-rank.
“And get this—her level is 999!”
“No way! Then her stats must be completely broken, right?”
“Yeah. All stats over 9,000. They say it matches the legendary Hero Yuuto from the old stories!”
…From what they were hearing, some insane monster of a rookie had joined the guild.
“Wow, what a person.”
“Yeah. Well, nothing to do with us.”
Ryuuji and Sheila smiled wryly.
The crowd was getting thicker.
It seemed the rookie was up ahead.
“And listen to this. She took a quest on the very first day.”
“I heard that too. She soloed an S-rank monster—the Tyrant Basilisk!”
“For real!? The thing that even full S-rank parties couldn’t beat—she took it down alone!?”
“Yeah. And crazy fast, too. Someone nearby saw it… her magic and physical attacks were on a whole different level.”
The more they heard, the more it sounded like an unbelievable newcomer had arrived.
“With strength like that, every party must be fighting over her, right?”
“Exactly. Look—right now every party leader is trying to scout her. That whole crowd is nothing but party leaders.”
“Whoa… all of them?”
“Of course. A rookie that strong? Everyone wants her.”
…After catching most of the rumors, Ryuuji and Sheila finally reached the reception desk.
There, the so-called rookie was being swarmed with party invitations.
“Come to ours!” “No, please join my party!” “Idiot! Come to mine!!”
…Amazing.
Ryuuji felt a little envious.
“No one scouted us, huh.”
“Hau… Ryuuji-kun, don’t get depressed.”
“Yeah, I know. I just thought it looked nice, that’s all.”
Still, to be wanted by this many people…
She really must be incredibly strong.
Well, it had nothing to do with them.
There was no way someone that strong would team up with weaklings like them.
They ignored the scouting and headed to the reception desk for their original business… when it happened.
“Ah! There you are! Um, excuse me!!”
A woman’s voice called out.
Wondering who it was, Ryuuji looked toward the sound—and it was coming from the very center of the crowd.
When he stopped and stared, there stood…
A black-haired, tall, busty beauty.
“E-eh, M-Mom!?”
For a second he thought it was Mom… but.
“Ah, my mistake.”
He corrected himself.
The woman really did resemble Mom, but she was clearly someone else.
She was wearing glasses, her face shape was different, and above all her eyes were purple.
Still… the more he looked, the more she looked like Mom.
But strangely, the harder he stared, the more his brain insisted [This is a completely different person].
He didn’t understand why, but the moment he thought [Is that Mom?] his perception would shift to [No, definitely not.]
“You over there, Ryu-k… nngh! You there! Please wait!”
The black-haired beauty with glasses walked straight up to Ryuuji and Sheila.
“Um… can we help you?”
This had to be the insanely strong rookie everyone was talking about.
Why would a promising newcomer like her want anything from them?
“Actually, I have a favor to ask you two!!”
“A favor…?”
The rookie gave a big nod, then bam! bowed deeply.
“Please let M… let me join your party!!!”
