Chapter 236: Everything in this world can be solved with money, you know?
“Ahem, such trivial matters are fine. More importantly, Yuki, wouldn’t you like to go to the pool?”
“Ah, I wasn’t sure if it was okay for someone like me to go to a regular public pool.”
“Indeed, I’ve never heard of anyone seeing a man at a citizens’ pool. If you went to a place like that, a bunch of fools driven crazy by the summer heat would swarm you.”
“Where do normal guys swim then?”
“Isn’t it at the pools operated by the Ministry of Male Protection? I’ve never been there myself, so I don’t know how many men are around.”
“I see. If there’s one nearby, I’d like to go.”
“There’s no need to worry about that. I’ll use my connections to make sure you can use a pool.”
“Eh? You’re gonna rent out an entire pool or something?”
“I could do that, but I know a nice hidden gem. It’s not too close, but last month the Ministry of Male Protection opened one of their pools to the public, and right now women from all over are flocking there. The rumor is that you can see men naked up close. Because of that, the nearby water parks are apparently deserted.”
“Oh? A water park! Sounds good!”
“It should be easy to reserve it, so shall I invite you there?”
“So in the end you are gonna reserve the whole thing.”
“Everything in this world can be solved with money, you know? I can’t possibly take you to a dangerous place when I’m going with you.”
“Ah, you don’t have to reserve the whole thing. If there aren’t many people, let’s just go normally. Everyone’s fine with that, right?”
“Miss Nouveau Riche Bitch, are there really not many people?”
“Umi-chan is as sharp-tongued as ever. Just in case, I already researched it beforehand. The number of visitors has dropped to one-seventh of normal. The water park is also much larger than the Ministry’s pool, so there’s plenty to enjoy.”
“Hmm. As long as you properly make sure Onii-chan doesn’t get kidnapped, I’m okay with it.”
“Fufu, I swear on the Kuon name that I will protect Yuki.”
“Now that it’s decided, we need to go buy swimsuits.”
“We should tell Airi-chan too.”
“Alright! That fills one slot in the schedule!”
With that, the summer swimsuit event is confirmed.
When it comes to swimsuit events, there’s the excitement of seeing the girls in swimsuits different from usual, bodies pressing together on the waterslides, becoming conscious of each other… Wait, we’re already glued together all the time, so that’s nothing new.
“By the way, Onii-chan, Mesuneko-nee Sakura mentioned earlier that Mom is coming back home this year too. What do you want to do? Going with her?”
“Hm? Do I usually go back home every year?”
“Ah, I guess I never told you. We go back every Obon festival. Well, you stopped going after you started being a shut-in. So you and I would stay home together.”
“…? That’s a strange conversation. Yuki, you didn’t know your mother was returning home?”
Ah, I never told Shino about the memory loss episode.
It’s not exactly memory loss, but I’ll go with that for now.
“Hm, ah… I guess I didn’t tell you, Shino? I have amnesia.”
“Amne… sia!? Are you alright?”
“I’m fine, I’m fine. I fell down the stairs this year and lost my memories. I’ve gotten used to it to some extent, but there’s still a lot I don’t know.”
“…Is there any prospect of your memories returning?”
“Not at all. Anyway, don’t worry about it too much. It’s stuff from before high school, and it doesn’t seem like they were all good memories anyway.”
“…Understood. I won’t pry too deeply.”
“Thanks. So, going back home for Obon means staying overnight?”
“Yeah. Mom usually stays one night before coming back, so it’ll be an overnight trip.”
Honestly, is it okay for me to go?
I’m completely different from the previous Yuki, so I have no connection to her at all. Frankly, we’re strangers.
She probably doesn’t know that though…
“Onii-chan hasn’t gone for about 3 years, so Grandma said she really wants to see you — that’s what Mom told me.”
“I see… Maybe I should go?”
“You can do whatever you want, Onii-chan. If you go, we’ll probably all go together this time.”
“All together meaning me, Umi, Sakura-nee, and Mom?”
“Shigure-nee and Hinana-san too. Apparently Mom and Hinana-san have been childhood friends since forever, and their family homes are close by. Not next door, but close.”
“Heh, so Mom and Hinana-san are childhood friends.”
“Yup. That’s why every Obon it was just me and Onii-chan at home. Though we barely even saw each other’s faces.”
“Hmm… Should I go…?”
“Come with me too, Yuki. It’d be lonely if I went alone, and I’ll show you around.”
“Are there places to show around, Shigure-nee? Isn’t it just forest and river there?”
“There aren’t many. But you’re always in the city, right? It’d be nice to refresh yourself in nature once in a while. There’s a beautiful waterfall that’s like a power spot too. It’s perfect for a trip.”
“…I’m not really feeling it.”
“I’ve only met her a couple of times when I went with Mom, but she seemed like a kind person.”
“That’s right. She treated me and Umi like her own grandchildren too.”
A kind grandma, huh…
It feels like I’m deceiving her, which makes me feel even more guilty, but since we’re blood-related, I should probably meet her.
“Alright, I’ll go. I’m counting on you guys for backup.”
“Yeah.”
“Got it.”
And so, the second summer event was decided.
Even though I’m not really enthusiastic about it…
“By the way, Yuki-kun, why don’t you come visit my family home again?”
Sakura, who had been quietly listening to the homecoming talk, suddenly suggested I come over.
“Sure, but to meet your sisters?”
“My sisters want to see you too, but more importantly, it seems Mother is returning from overseas.”
“Sakura-nee’s mom, huh. Yeah, I should meet her.”
“Then I’ll set up the schedule!”
“Got it.”
“Yuki, in that case, shouldn’t you meet Airi’s mother too?”
Ah, right, right. Shigure reminded me.
“Yeah, I’ll tell Airi via Beam.”
“It’s turning into a summer break full of meeting relatives, isn’t it?”
Thanks to Shino’s comment, I realized… out of the filled slots, three of them are just meeting relatives…
“Pretty much.”
“Don’t you have anything else you want to do?”
“Before you arrived, we were talking about wanting to go to the summer festival and camping.”
“That sounds nice. May I join you?”
“Of course.”
“Fufufu, the summer festival is one thing, but for camping, shall I arrange a glamping site?”
“You’re trying to reserve the whole place again?”
“Everything in this world can be solved with money, you know?”
“It’s not like it’ll be crowded anyway, so that’s fine.”
“Ah, in that case, since the Shindou family invests in a campsite, how about we go there? If we meet the sisters at the Shindou house I don’t know what they’ll do, but at a campsite they probably won’t be able to cause trouble.”
“As long as I can enjoy camping, anywhere is fine!”
“Then I’ll tell them we’ll meet the family at the campsite!”
If I can enjoy camping while meeting the Shindou family, that’s killing two birds with one stone.
“Alright! So with that, we’ve got the pool, homecoming, and camping — three things decided.”
“For now, just keep it to those three. If you pack the schedule too full, you won’t have any flexibility.”
She’s right.
It’s summer and there are lots of things I want to do, but cramming too many plans might make it less enjoyable. The rest can happen naturally.
I’m sure more things will come up later anyway!
“Yeah, let’s do that.”
“Exactly. That’s why we’re doing homework today. The less you have left, the more you can enjoy the second half of break.”
“Got it.”
“Then today we’re doing homework in Onii-chan’s room~”
“I’ll go get drinks.”
“In that case, I’ll join too. I’ll go home quickly and get my homework.”
After that, the five of us worked on homework together to prepare for the best summer vacation ever.
The girls have about twice as much homework as me, so it looks tough for them…
