I became the boyfriend of the school's madonna, who had turned down numerous confessions, but somehow, without realizing it, I wasn't just playing a role anymore - Chapter 92
Episode 92: Who Should Apologize
“Mature, you say?”
“Yes… I can see why Misaki is so smitten with you. It’s… quite enviable…”
Sasagawa-sensei gently rubbed her left hand with her right.
She muttered the latter part softly, making it hard to hear, but it seemed she had something on her mind.
“I’m not as mature as you think. I’m the same age as Misaki, after all.”
I knew she meant it in a mental sense, but I decided to play dumb.
The more serious the conversation got, the heavier the atmosphere would become.
Even if it wasn’t exactly hostile, the atmosphere was like a childish argument, so changing the mood was important.
“That’s true… It was childish of me to behave like that towards someone a decade younger…”
However, Sasagawa-sensei seemed more affected than I expected, suddenly looking very apologetic.
Misaki had mentioned she was twenty-eight, and considering the age difference, her behavior might indeed have been seen as immature.
But—this wasn’t a good direction for the conversation.
“Misaki, I’m sor—”
“Please stop apologizing.”
I interrupted Sasagawa-sensei’s words by speaking over her.
“Huh…?”
She looked at me with wide eyes, clearly not expecting my response.
“Regarding this incident, Sasagawa-sensei, you weren’t really at fault, were you? So please don’t apologize. The ones at fault here are us.”
I understood that Sasagawa-sensei wanted to act maturely.
However, having the blameless party apologize while the truly at-fault party remained unaccountable wasn’t right.
To put it bluntly, it might only make Misaki more complacent.
Misaki already showed signs of relying on her sister, who was twelve years older.
This dynamic was probably because Sasagawa-sensei had always taken the high road.
But now that Misaki was in high school, I didn’t think this relationship dynamic was ideal.
“But…”
Sasagawa-sensei seemed lost, searching for words while her eyes wandered.
Misaki, meanwhile, pressed her face harder into my chest, clearly upset about her sister trying to apologize and being told she was in the wrong.
It was easy to see the kind of relationship the two had built over the years.
“This is Sasagawa-sensei’s home, so it’s entirely our fault for intruding without notice. If we hadn’t done that, none of this would have happened.”
As I gently patted Misaki’s back to calm her, I conveyed the facts to Sasagawa-sensei.
The only fault she had was not knocking, but by any measure, we were the ones at fault.
So, the ones who should apologize were us.
“Misaki, you know what I’m trying to say, don’t you?”
I called Misaki in a gentle tone, being careful not to provoke her.
In response, Misaki looked up at me with a guilty expression.
