Chapter 24: The Girls’ Night is Getting Lively
“…Excuse me. As you all know, His Majesty Van, my brother, is incredibly vigorous. He’s very strong at night.”
Since the wedding, the three brides have taken turns being with the king. Some nights, he even embraced all three at once.
This, in itself, is fine. It’s not a bad thing at all.
Producing heirs is the duty of the king and his brides.
In fact, Van should be praised for loving all his brides equally without favoring any one of them.
“But… he’s too intense. It’s affecting our daytime duties…”
That’s the issue.
Van is so vigorous at night that even with three brides, they can’t keep up with him.
After nights with him, they are completely exhausted the next day, making it difficult to handle their royal duties.
Before the marriage, Van needed alcohol to muster the courage to be with women.
However, perhaps due to his sense of responsibility as a husband, he now embraces the three brides even when sober.
“Sex feels so good… I never knew.”
This shocking statement was made the morning after their first night together.
Having experienced the pleasure of sex without alcohol, Van became completely hooked.
He now sought his brides almost every night.
“I see… Indeed, that is an important issue…”
“Yes… We need to solve it as quickly as possible.”
Both ‘Gold’ and ‘Silver’ agreed.
It was clearly an important matter, affecting their well-being.
“I’m happy to be loved by His Majesty, but it’s a problem when it affects our work. This country is already short on manpower as it is…”
‘Black’ sighed, troubled.
‘Gold’ and ‘Silver’ looked equally concerned.
Typically, queens compete fiercely for the king’s affection, which can lead to tension.
With three queens, it’s surprising that there’s no conflict among them.
This harmony is, in a way, thanks to Van’s vigor.
If any one of them monopolized his love, it would undoubtedly be an overwhelming burden.
They all understood this, so they didn’t compete for Van’s affection.
The three queens shared the understanding that Van Arlengs was not a man they could monopolize.
“Hmm… But selecting a new queen would be challenging. What if we brought in courtesans to handle his desires instead?”
‘Silver’ raised her hand and suggested.
If it was just about satisfying his desires, there might be no need to increase the number of queens.
“If he doesn’t need to father children, we could just make sure he… finishes outside.”
“Do you think His Majesty can restrain himself? That beast?”
“Well, that…”
“I think it’s impossible.”
“…”
When ‘Gold’ stated this firmly, ‘Silver’ fell silent.
If Van were the type to restrain himself, they wouldn’t be facing this issue.
They even had a hunch that, even if given contraceptives, he might somehow nullify their effects.
“Courtesans are out of the question. Rejected.”
The other two nodded silently at ‘Black’s’ decision.
“But… we can’t just bring in any woman. We can’t risk politically insignificant brides having children.”
The country, being newly established, had weak political foundations.
Lower-status brides should not bear children, especially not the first or second child, who would have a high chance of becoming the crown prince.
“Honestly, I wasn’t the right person to become His Majesty’s wife either… but let’s not discuss that.”
‘Black’ shook her head.
“We need at least high-ranking nobles, preferably princesses from other countries…”
“But that won’t be easy. His Majesty just took in three brides. We can’t openly seek more.”
“Why not… just start a war and take one by force?”
‘Silver’ made a surprising suggestion to the two who were deep in thought.
“Defeating another country in war and making it a vassal… then demanding a princess as a sign of submission. This way, we gain territory too. Two birds with one stone.”
‘Silver’ said this with a smile.
Despite her gentle tone, ‘Silver’ had a surprisingly straightforward and aggressive personality.
“The Shing Empire to the east, the Kingdom of Zelos to the north, the southern forest tribes, and the island nation across the western sea. We have plenty of choices. Why not let His Majesty Van’s name resound across the world?”
“That’s ridiculous… We’re not in a position to wage war right now…”
‘Gold’ sighed, holding her head in frustration.
The country had just come out of a civil war and couldn’t afford to engage in external conflicts.
“Yes… let’s not. We don’t have a just cause.”
‘Black’ also seemed to oppose the idea of war.
A just cause.
In other words, there was no righteous reason to start a war with another country.
The Kingdom of Arlengs was a newly established nation, distinct from the former Kingdom of Aidron.
The old conflicts of Aidron couldn’t serve as a justification for war.
“I agree with making His Majesty the ruler of the world… but it’s too soon for that.”
‘Black’ murmured quietly, so the other two couldn’t hear her.
For now, they wouldn’t go to war.
However, she strongly supported the idea of expanding the kingdom.
Watching how far Van Arlengs could rise was one of her greatest motivations in life.
“Um… excuse me. Lady Moa, urgent news…!”
There was a knock on the door, and a woman entered.
She was a court official working in the palace, assisting Moa.
“Whoa…”
In the dim room, the masked women sat around the round table.
The court official’s face tensed up at the unusual sight.
“What is it? Report.”
“Uh? Oh, yes… um, well…”
The court official composed herself and delivered her report.
“A letter has arrived from the neighboring Kingdom of Zelos. It… it could be taken as a declaration of war…”
“…!”
‘Black’s’ eyes widened behind her mask.
‘Gold’ looked grim, while ‘Silver’ had a faint smile.
It seemed that Van Arlengs’ reign would not proceed peacefully.
Even though the internal turmoil hadn’t fully settled, a new conflict was already looming.
