Chapter 03: That’s Him
“Hello there, Human, who’s consumed by hatred!”
With those words, I leapt into his dream world.
In general, the dream world is vague, and there are no ordinary humans who can move as they please. However, as an incubus, I have the ability to give the other person a clear consciousness as well as myself.
Although it’s usually just a faint interaction, it doesn’t matter to me whether it stays in his memory or not.
“W-who are you!?”
“Hello there, Human. I’m just a passing demon.”
I conveyed this message, but he remained on guard, which was pointless.
“No matter how you struggle, Human, you are powerless in the dream world. It’s useless to be on guard. As I am the rule in this world.”
This is not a boastful remark, but even as a child, I was absolute in the dream world.
Well, my childhood friend Aria is strong in both the dream world and the real world, and it’s sad that she keeps getting further away from me as time goes by.
Anyway, that’s not important now, so I return my gaze to the human who keeps glaring at me.
“I found an interesting scent of a dream. When I peeked, I found you, who keeps spewing out an indescribable resentment.”
“So what?”
I spread my arms and continued speaking with a smirk on my face.
I feel like a fraudster, but I’m taking the time to do this during my nap, so I want to play a little.
“I’m the only one by your side in this dream world. How about it? If you’ve experienced despair or something like that, there’s no need to worry about complaining to a demon, right? Come on, if you want to, talk to me.”
“Hmph, who would complain to a demon like you—”
“Something happened, didn’t it? We’re in a dream after all, so it’s okay.”
I approached him and tapped him on the shoulder, saying so.
He still didn’t let his guard down, but as I said earlier, this world is my rule, so I was able to manipulate his mind to some extent and gradually reduce his vigilance.
As his guard against me weakened, he began to speak.
“I had something that really pissed me off…”
According to him, it all started suddenly.
While he was living his life as a laid-back adventurer, he was invited to a high-ranking party because of his “Map” skill. However, it seems that he was treated horribly in that party.
“I can only use Map, that’s for sure. But I had been trying my best in my own way! And yet, when I came with them, they left me behind in the dungeon and tried to make me the prey of a giant serpent!”
“I see. And then?”
“I thought I was going to die! But something took hold of me there. It was the power to destroy everything with dark magic!”
“Hmm, and you’re going to take revenge on them?”
“That’s right! I can’t forgive this humiliation!”
His despair and desire for revenge were undoubtedly genuine.
However, in this dream world, where one’s true feelings are exposed, he seemed to have some doubts about what he was about to do.
I didn’t really have an answer when he asked me, “What do you think? Even if I just act on my hatred like this?” But as I’m no longer human but a demon, I answered him without much thought:
“Isn’t that fine? Being left behind in the dungeon is the same as being almost killed. So it’s not strange for you to hold a grudge.”
“I-I see…”
He seemed surprised at my answer, but it wasn’t really something to be surprised about. As I am no longer human and my sensitivity has changed to some extent, I don’t usually deny what I hear outright.
After all, humans and I live in different worlds, so no matter what I say, it won’t change much.
(Well, this is definitely a power awakening event. If he has this much resentment, it would be painful if he couldn’t vent it out.)
I approached him and placed my hand on his shoulder.
“If you were lying, that would be one thing, but humans in this world cannot lie. So everything you said seems to be true, and if I were in your position, I would probably resent just like you.”
“Right…”
“But…if I may say so, it’s about what you do from now on.”
“Huh?”
He listened to my words intently.
I feel a bit like a con artist, enjoying this conversation, but since he allowed me to peek into his dreams and listen to him, I feel like I should give my opinion too.
“After killing the members who abandoned you, what do you want to do?”
“That is…”
“That is?”
“… ”
He couldn’t answer. That meant he hadn’t thought about what to do next.
“Think about it carefully and come up with an answer that satisfies you. I’m not denying what you’re doing. Your resentment is justified – the other party cannot complain about being killed. However, if you have such great power, it might be interesting to accuse and socially kill them for what they’ve done, without fearing retaliation… Or perhaps that would be even more exhausting for them?”
“!!!”
I am a demon, but I have had the opportunity to research the human side of this world through books.
Among adventurers, there are rules in place to prohibit killing party members for no reason or intentionally putting them in life-threatening situations.
That’s why, if there is any evidence, it might be possible to socially kill the person who he resents immediately.
“Well, it’s up to you, human. At least, I won’t deny whatever you do after this conversation.”
“… You.”
I patted him on the back, and he started to tear up a little.
Despite being much larger than me, he looked so weak at that moment.
He smiled faintly and looked at me with a completely relaxed expression, although I still didn’t know his name.
“As you said, this is a dream, right? I never thought I’d spend time like this with a demon.”
“Hehe, it wasn’t so bad, was it? Generally, humans and demons don’t get along… that’s true, but I have a hobby of peeking into people’s dreams like this. Even if they hold hostility towards me, I won’t be attacked here, so I can relax in many ways. So, well, that’s why I can enjoy myself this way.”
“…It’s strange. That there are demons like you.”
He finally smiled from the heart as he said that.
As always, most of the people I talk to in dreams end up laughing like this. Talking about your troubles to others surprisingly makes you feel relieved, and although I don’t particularly feel anything towards humans, it makes me a little happy to see a genuine smile.
“But… the only demons who can enter dreams are succubi, right? And you’re a man… you’re not a succubus in disguise, are you?”
“No, I’m not. I’m a genuine man… hey, why are you pushing you butt and moving away?”
“Well, I wondered if you’re into doing it with men…”
“Shut up, I’ll kill you.”
I don’t have any interest in doing it with men, you piece of shit… but it’s often misunderstood that only succubi, who are lust demons, can enter dreams. That’s why I call myself a demon rather than an incubus/succubus, but since there’s a premise that there are no men among succubi, people tend to believe me when I tell them that I’m a demon.
“Haha, my bad, my bad… but thanks. I might forget about it after I wake up from my nap, but I’m grateful.”
“It’s fine. Take care, Human.”
“Yeah, you too.”
And with that, his dream ended, and I withdrew from the dream as well.

Lyre, who was reborn as an incubus, has made a hobby of peering into the dreams of many people and sometimes even entering their dreams to talk with them.
This is a remnant of his former human self, and he lives a life that creates a distance with his succubus comrades. However, this is precisely why conversations with humans remind him of his old self.
However…there are times when Lyre underestimates things a bit too much.
In dreams, a person’s true nature is revealed, so they can speak honestly with each other from the bottom of their hearts. In other words, Lyre’s words have a strong impact on the other person’s heart. When the other person hears Lyre’s words, they are comforted, affirmed, or even advised, and it deeply affects them.
“Could he, the demon, appear in my dreams again?”
“He may be a demon, but he’s my friend― I won’t let him become an enemy.”
Lyre didn’t realize that what he was doing was sometimes creating significant changes…It was an inevitable fact that those who heard Lyre’s words would be affected by them, regardless of what he wanted.
