- Chapter 77: I Was Reunited With My Loved One.
I Was Reunited With My Loved One.
Receiving my grandfather’s call, I rushed to the countryside hospital where my parents had been taken. The time was past midnight, but there was no room to worry about trivial matters. I quickly explained the situation to the receptionist, and they directed me to a private patient room. It was more luxurious than I’d imagined, resembling a high-end hotel rather than a hospital, with two beds placed side by side. Lying there, my parents looked both familiar and worn.
“Dad… Mom…!” I gasped.
Their faces, so close to my childhood memories, seemed frail but recognizable. I’d heard they were weak but in stable health, so seeing them connected to IV drips gave me some reassurance. They stirred at my voice and, turning to look, their eyes widened.
“Could it be… are you Hatsune?” my mother asked, her gaze soft yet uncertain.
“Yes… it’s me!” I choked, my voice filled with emotion.
Their smiles, though fragile, held that unmistakable warmth, and as my mother reached out to touch my head, her hand felt just as gentle as I remembered. Tears welled up uncontrollably. After all this time, I was finally able to be with them again.
“Oh, Hatsune… you’ve grown,” my father murmured, his voice tinged with pride.
“Yet, you’re still a bit of a crybaby, aren’t you?” teased my mother, a gentle chuckle escaping her lips.
“Of course I am… how could I not cry? Where have you two been all this time?” I wiped my tears hastily, desperate for answers.
They exchanged looks before my father spoke, his brow furrowed. “That’s the thing… neither of us remembers much. We were found on a beach nearby, and before that, we only recall being in… somewhere else.”
“Somewhere else?” I repeated, puzzled.
“Yes,” my mother added softly, “a place that’s not here… but where exactly, we can’t say. Just before we ended up here, though, we met a young man.”
“A young man…?” I echoed, a spark of realization beginning to form.
“He introduced himself as Ueno Yakumo,” my mother said, eyes focused on some distant memory.
“Yakumo-kun! He must’ve been in that other world, searching for you two all along!” My heart raced as the pieces fell into place.
My father raised an eyebrow. “Do you know him, Hatsune?”
I nodded, a thousand questions crowding my mind. “Yes… he’s my friend. Was he alright? Did he seem hurt?”
My father hesitated, a frown forming. “…I’m not entirely sure. It was hard to say…”
My father didn’t seem to remember much about Yakumo-kun’s exact circumstances, but at least I had learned something about his whereabouts and purpose.
“…Hatsune,” my mother asked, a glint of curiosity in her eyes, “what kind of relationship do you have with this Yakumo-kun? Is he… perhaps… your boyfriend?”
“Wh—what!?” My face turned red as I fumbled for a response.
“Oh my, she’s already that age! You’ve grown up so much without us even realizing,” my mother teased gently.
My father, looking conflicted, muttered, “My daughter has a boyfriend… Well, with how beautiful she’s grown, I suppose it’s inevitable. But still… it’s hard to accept!”
“Come now, you should be happy for her,” my mother chided. “Remember, we were around Hatsune’s age when we first met.”
“I suppose, but…” he said, a coughing fit interrupting his words.
“Dad, are you okay?” I asked, instantly worried.
“Yes, I’m alright, just a little tired.”
“You’re still not back to full health, are you?”
My mother stroked my cheek comfortingly. “The doctor mentioned that soon, both of us would be transferred to a hospital in the city, one managed by the Ichigaya Group.”
“Really? That’ll make it much easier to visit!” I brightened up at the thought.
“Your grandfather probably arranged it. I’m looking forward to seeing him too,” my father said with a soft smile.
He hadn’t made it here yet, likely tied up with work commitments and unable to visit on such short notice.
“I’m sure he’s just as eager to see you,” I reassured him. “He always believed you’d come back and kept holding off on choosing a successor.”
“A successor, huh? After all this time, could I really handle leading the Ichigaya Group again?”
“You can do it, Dad!” I encouraged, with all the conviction I could muster.
Hearing my words, my father seemed to relax, finally closing his eyes as weariness overtook him. “Thank you, Hatsune.”
I smiled, leaning in closer. “Rest well, Dad. I should be going too.”
“Next time, let’s talk more, okay?” my mother said softly, her hand warm against mine.
“Definitely!” I nodded, beaming, before I quietly left the room.

I was able to reunite with my parents and even get some information about Yakumo-kun. If his purpose in the other world was to help save them, it’s likely he’s already returned to this world, somewhere close by. With a lighter heart, I stepped out of the hospital, heading toward the main entrance, where the bus stop was located.
But since it was already late, the buses were no longer running, and even if I managed to find a way back to the city, the last train to Tokyo had surely left hours ago.
“What should I do…” I murmured to myself, realizing I needed to find somewhere to stay the night. A taxi would take a while to arrive at this remote hospital, so I braced myself for a bit of waiting. Just then, a sleek black sedan pulled up at the entrance.
“Miss Hatsune, I’ve come to pick you up.”
Stepping out of the driver’s seat was Akikawa-san, my grandfather’s secretary and driver, a woman in her late twenties. I’d met her a few times when visiting my grandfather’s home, and she had even driven me on occasion. With her sharp and composed demeanor, she exuded the air of a capable professional. Young as she was, she was already working directly with my grandfather, the chairman—surely, she was incredibly skilled. She had that effortlessly cool vibe of an adult woman, which I found quite admirable.
“Akikawa-san, how did you know to come here?”
“By the chairman’s orders. We’ve arranged a hotel for you nearby. Since it’s Saturday, you’ll stay here tonight, and I’ll take you home tomorrow.”
“Thank you so much… It’s quite thoughtful of you,” I replied, still adjusting to being addressed as “Miss” by Ichigaya personnel. I’d been used to this kind of treatment when I was younger, but recently, the life of a typical student felt more familiar to me.
“No need to thank me. We would have liked to escort you here as well, but traveling on your own allowed you to arrive more quickly.”
“Getting here as fast as possible to see my parents on the way in, and prioritizing safety on the way back. That’s the idea, right?”
“Precisely. Now, please, make yourself comfortable,” she said, gesturing to the car.

Akikawa-san opened the back seat door, gently encouraging me to get in.
I hadn’t done anything for the Ichigaya Group—I’m just a student, after all. Getting this kind of VIP treatment felt a little overwhelming. But… maybe this is my grandfather’s way of looking after me. Since he couldn’t come himself, he made sure I was taken care of. Thinking about it that way, being treated as “Miss” didn’t seem so bad.
“Alright, thank you,” I said, bowing slightly before getting into the car.
My grandfather, with his stern face but warm heart for his family, my kind mother and father… The family I thought I’d lost suddenly returned to me. And yet, there was one more person missing.
“Yakumo-kun… I really want to see you,” I murmured with a sigh as the car began to move.

The place Akikawa-san took me to was the best hotel in the area, and she had booked the suite. Just for a single night before heading home in the morning… only my grandfather would think to do something this extravagant. I spent a restless night there and returned home the next day.
But when I opened my door, I found someone waiting for me in what should have been an empty room.
No—there was no mistaking him.
The person I had longed to see stood right there.
“That witch… I get that she was trying to be thoughtful, but was there any need to send me directly to Hatsune-san’s room…”
“Yakumo-kun!”
Without a second thought, I dashed forward and threw my arms around him, finally reunited with the person I loved most.
