The High School First-Year Beauty Has No Intention of Breaking Up with Her Boyfriend.
“I’ve heard everything from Hatsune.”
In a different room of the Ichigaya residence, Ichigaya Kuranosuke, Hatsune’s grandfather, spoke in a low voice. His conversation partner was Tsukishima Kouzou, Hatsune-san’s uncle.
Next to Kouzou, a well-built man in an expensive suit, sat his son, Kuon, and both were seated formally on tatami mats. I was hiding with Hatsune behind the sliding door, watching the situation unfold.
“Wait a minute. What do you mean by ‘everything’?”
“Everything from forcibly pushing forward the engagement between Hatsune and Kuon to embezzling the assets you were supposed to manage as her guardian, among other unjust treatments towards Hatsune.”
“E-embezzlement is completely unfounded! Surely, Hatsune-chan must be misunderstanding something. Besides, she’s still a student. It could just be a child’s joke or something!”
It seemed that Kouzou intended to keep denying everything. However, Kuranosuke, Hatsune’s grandfather, appeared to be uninterested in him.
“What about the engagement?”
“W-well, saying it was forceful might be misleading, but I simply found Kuon to be a suitable match for Hatsune. In fact, I came here today to report that.”
Listening to Kouzou’s excuse, I somewhat understood the situation. I had been wondering what purpose the Tsukishima family had in visiting this residence, and as Kouzou said, it was to discuss the engagement. They probably intended to bring Hatsune along but changed their plans when she ignored their summons. Moreover, they were visibly anxious after Hatsune had told on them first, thinking they could easily manipulate her.
“Your intentions are all too clear, so let me say this: I have no intention of allowing either you or your son, Kuon, to inherit my legacy.”
Kuranosuke spoke coldly, his demeanor unwavering.
“What?!”
“Grandfather, wait!”
Kouzou was furious, and Kuon appeared anxious. However, neither received any attention from Kuranosuke.
“I thought I’d give you a chance to express your opinions, but it’s unbearable to listen to. I won’t acknowledge an engagement against Hatsune’s wishes, nor can I leave her in your care.”
“Y-you must be joking! To let a child’s whim affect me, and to tarnish my reputation without any evidence—how old have you become?”
Kouzou stood up, raising his voice.
“Indeed, you are right; as you say, there is no evidence yet. Therefore, I will arrange to gather it from now on. Feel free to attempt to destroy any evidence, but don’t think you can escape.”
Kuranosuke showed no sign of being shaken; instead, he glared back at Kouzou with sharp eyes. Realizing he was at a disadvantage, Kouzou’s expression shifted to a thin smile.
“I-I am your eldest son. Please, let’s settle this amicably…”
“Your leniency in the past as my son has led to this. This time, I will take a firm stance. You will be held criminally accountable.”
“There’s no way I can accept that!”
As Kouzou became increasingly enraged, Kuon, who had been relatively quiet until then, stood up.
“It’s your fault I can’t become president! If you hadn’t messed things up back then, I would still be Ichigaya!”
“What kind of insolent tone is that towards your father! You accepted the engagement proposal I suggested, didn’t you!”
It seemed a rift had started to form between them.
“The discussion is over. You can argue as much as you like outside this house.”
In other words, he was telling them to get out.
“…Don’t think this is over!”
“Hey, wait!”
Kouzou spat out some parting words and exited through a different door from where Hatsune and I were hiding. His son Kuon followed suit, leaving the room.
Before long, Hatsune and I stepped out from behind the sliding door.
“There’s still some aftermath to deal with… but this marks the end of this particular episode,” Kuranosuke said as he looked at Hatsune and me. He seemed a bit more at ease than when he was speaking with the Tsukishima family.
“Thank you for handling those people,” Hatsune said.
“For my granddaughter, this much is only natural.”
“Fufu~~.”
When Kuranosuke said that, Hatsune’s face lit up with a happy smile. After witnessing that smile, Kuranosuke turned his gaze toward me.
“Now, regarding my granddaughter, I’d like to confirm something: what exactly is your relationship with Hatsune? Given that you’re here, I can assume you’re not just classmates.”
Kuranosuke’s expression shifted back to a stern one. This… it’s probably better not to try to dodge this question.
“Actually, Hatsune and I are dating.”
“Why didn’t you say that earlier?”
“At that moment, I didn’t want the conversation to stray off topic.”
Part of it was also because I was a bit cowardly, but there were more pressing issues to discuss at that time.
“Hm…”
Kuranosuke showed a thoughtful expression. This might not be a good sign… I sensed a tense atmosphere in the room, and then…
“Yayakumo-kun helped me when I was bullied and alone, and today, he stayed by my side when I was anxious… He’s an important person to me! So, um… even if you tell me to break up, I won’t!”
Hatsune suddenly declared this.
She was standing up for me… I felt happy, but at the same time, I felt a bit ashamed that I couldn’t convince her grandfather on my own. However, more than that…
(I didn’t realize Hatsune felt that strongly about me… Being told that again makes me feel shy.)
Thinking that, I glanced at Hatsune. She was staring intently at her grandfather.
Although Kuranosuke’s expression remained stern, he eventually opened his mouth.
“…I understand the situation. I won’t tell you to break up right away.”
“Oh, really? That’s great, Yayakumo-kun!”
Upon hearing her grandfather’s conclusion, Hatsune’s smile blossomed.
Our eyes met perfectly because I had been staring at her.
“Ah.”
“Ehehe~~.”
The two of us gazed at each other, as lovers do.
From the outside, it might look a bit silly.
However, there was, of course, someone present who wouldn’t let that slide.
“I have various things I want to discuss. Feel free to relax in this house today. Let’s have a meal together.”
Kuranosuke cleared his throat and made that proposal as the master of the mansion.
