The Most Beautiful Girl in High School Wants Me to Wait Until We Meet in Person.
“I’m sorry for contacting you out of the blue.”
‘It’s fine, but you know I usually take a bath around this time, right?’
As she spoke, Hatsune-san gave me a pointed look through the screen.
“I know, but…”
My momentary guilt for bothering her faded quickly.
‘So, that means you must be so eager to see me in the bath that you couldn’t help but call, right?’
“Wait, what?”
‘I’m not against the idea of you feeling that way about me… but I’d prefer you hold off until we can meet in person.’
Hatsune-san continued speaking, her cheeks slightly flushed as she smiled shyly. It seemed she had interpreted my intentions in a rather unexpected way. I couldn’t help but wonder what she thought I was planning to do during our call… While I was curious, I figured it would be kinder not to ask.
“Actually, I wanted to talk about something serious.”
‘A serious talk…? Oh, right. Okay, that’s fine. I wanted to talk to you, too.’
Hatsune-san’s expression shifted from surprise to understanding as she realized her earlier misunderstanding.
‘So, what do you want to talk about?’
“I wanted to ask about your grandfather.”
‘About my grandfather? That’s fine, but I can’t really share too many details, okay? Like I said earlier, I haven’t seen him in a long time.’
I had heard earlier that Hatsune-san had become distant from her grandfather since her parents went missing. According to Diona’s information, her parents seemed to be alive in another world, but until I had clarity on the situation, I should keep that to myself. I still didn’t have any concrete proof of their safety.
“Have you ever thought about meeting him? Maybe he could help with your uncle.”
‘Well, I don’t know. If you cared that much, you probably wouldn’t have left me in my uncle’s care in the first place. Besides, I think my grandfather didn’t really like me all that much.’
“Is it that you felt there were events that led to that feeling?”
‘It’s not like anything particularly happened. I just remember always being taken to see him every month with my mom and dad, and he always had that scary, silent face.’
Hatsune-san reminisced about her family, saying she used to hide behind her mother out of fear of her grandfather. In her memories, he seemed far from being a friendly presence. It’s only natural to think that if a grandfather loves his grandchild, he would be affectionate and smile at them.
In my case, I was spoiled by my grandparents. Even now, as a high school student, they would always slip me a generous amount of pocket money whenever we met. While I appreciated it as a valuable source of income, I often felt a bit guilty about accepting it. Each time, they would tell me it made them happy just to see my face.
Reflecting on that memory, I thought that perhaps Hatsune-san’s grandfather harbored similar feelings.
“But considering he’s the head of a major corporation and busy, the fact that he set aside time every month to meet must mean he valued that time with his grandchild, right?”
‘Hmm, that might just be because he wanted to see my parents. After they disappeared, he never reached out to me either.’
If Hatsune-san truly cared for her, it would be unnatural to leave a lonely grandchild alone. However, there could be reasons behind that situation as well. After all, I had never met Hatsune-san’s grandfather.
“How about we meet him after a long time?”
‘Meeting him… you mean, I would go see my grandfather, right?’
“Yes.”
‘But what if he finds it bothersome?’
It seemed that Hatsune-san wasn’t very enthusiastic about the idea.
“I doubt many people would find it bothersome if their grandchild came to visit… In the end, we won’t know how he feels unless we ask him directly. It’s definitely reassuring to have someone on our side.”
‘That might be true, but…’
Hatsune-san seemed to be contemplating my words while still feeling uncertain. She probably felt anxious about it. Perhaps this was also a hint of her long-standing social anxiety. After pondering for a while, she finally looked at me through the screen with a determined expression.
‘Okay, I’ve made up my mind, Yakumo-kun! I’ll go see my grandfather, but I have one condition.’
“A condition? What is it?”
‘I’m anxious about going alone, so I want you to come with me to my grandfather’s house!’
That was an unexpected proposal from Hatsune-san.
