The Introvert Just Wants To Enjoy A Fun Summer Vacation With The Most Beautiful Girl.
The next day after Hatsune-san declared a full ban on “intimate activities” until the test period was over, I was walking to school with her as usual.
Even though we had decided to abstain, there was no need to keep our distance from each other. So, once again, the two of us entered our classroom, 2-3.
“Oh, it’s Ichigaya-san and Ueno-kun! Good morning!”
“You two came to school together again. You’re always so close!”
As soon as we walked in, some girls who were chatting near the teacher’s desk called out to us. After the sports festival, Hatsune-san and I had started to fit in with the class more, and people had begun talking to us more often. We casually returned the greeting and made our way to our seats.
“Good morning to you both,”
This time, it was the class representative seated in front of me who greeted us.
“Good morning, Rep.”
“Morning.”
Returning the greeting, we sat down at our desks.
“Ueno, sorry to ask, but may I borrow Ichigaya-san for a bit?”
“Huh? Sure, but I don’t think you really need my permission for that.”
I glanced over at Hatsune-san.
“Oh, is this about what you two were talking about on Line yesterday?”
It seemed like Hatsune-san had an idea of what the class rep wanted.
“Yes. I need her to continue advising me on how to win over the boy I like. Could we discuss it, quietly, in the corner of the classroom?”
As she said this, the class rep shot several glances toward a certain person sitting on the opposite side of the room. It was Shiina, one of the most popular guys in class, and her childhood friend.
“Haha, sure.”
“Alright then, Ichigaya-san, please come with me.”
The rep stood up, and with a smile, led Hatsune-san to the very back of the classroom. It wasn’t far, just a few seats away from where we were sitting at the back, but the two seemed to be enjoying their conversation.
The class rep had become one of Hatsune-san’s closest friends, and lately, they’d been talking a lot about relationships.
(Do they ever talk about me…?)
While Hatsune-san and the class rep were whispering behind me, I couldn’t make out the conversation. If I really wanted to, I could use the skill I gained from the other world to eavesdrop, but I wasn’t into that sort of thing.
(I guess I’ll just wait for them to finish talking…)
Left on my own, my mind began to wander. I had a few things troubling me.
First, there was the upcoming final exam. The midterm that took place right after Golden Week had been a disaster since I’d spent the days leading up to it missing in action in the other world.
(I really need to make up for that with the finals, or things are going to get pretty bad…)
If I ended up failing, my summer break would be filled with make-up classes. It’d be such a waste, especially now that Hatsune-san and I were finally dating. We wouldn’t even be able to spend any time together.
(Well, I guess it’s not like we haven’t spent time together…)
Since we started going out, the only thing we’d really done, as Hatsune-san put it, was “intimate stuff.”
(Wait… am I becoming the type of guy who’s just using her for that? Like some kind of scumbag?)
No, I needed to step up and take this relationship seriously. I should be asking her out on real dates, doing things that normal couples do.
(But first, I’ve got to focus on studying.)
I had to get through these finals. Then, I could look forward to a fun summer break with Hatsune-san.

After school that day, I ended up studying with Hatsune-san.
“So, where should we study?”
“If we go to my house… things might end up the way they did before, so we should probably pick a place where there are other people.”
With that conversation, Hatsune-san and I decided to head to the library, both for studying and to help with our decision to abstain from distractions.
***
We sat side by side in the library’s study area, quietly working through our assignments. The air smelled of old paper, and the room was filled with silence. There were a few other students scattered around, studying or reading, but no one was near us.
In this calm atmosphere, I focused on my Japanese history textbook. Hatsune-san, who had consistently been at the top of our class, had given me some advice when I asked her how she prepared for tests. Her tip was straightforward: “If you memorize everything in the textbook for the test’s scope, you’ll manage both the memorization and application parts.” It wasn’t the most nuanced advice, but I took it to heart.
Of course, memorizing even just part of the textbook is no easy feat for most people. But I had an easier solution.
(This is… going pretty well.)
I was using one of the cheat skills I acquired in the other world: perfect memory. This skill allows me to completely memorize anything I see, hear, experience, or sense—instantly and without error. It’s incredibly effective for studying.
(If I had used this during class, I wouldn’t have to worry about cramming now… but the mental strain is pretty intense, so I can’t use it all the time.)
Keeping the skill active throughout an entire lesson isn’t feasible, and I end up absorbing unnecessary information, like a teacher’s idle chatter. That’s why it’s more efficient to just use it for short bursts like this.
(If I can memorize all the key points now, I can spend the remaining time practicing calculations and working on application problems. That should be enough to score well.)
It feels a bit like cheating, but I’m not holding back on my skills to avoid being unfair to others. I just don’t want to attract too much attention. As long as I use this skill to study efficiently and score decent grades, I don’t see a problem.
(I mean, I could use my x-ray vision to cheat during the test… but that would be crossing the line.)
Just as I was thinking about these ridiculous things, my phone vibrated in my pocket. It looked like I had received a message. Pulling it out to check, I saw that it was from my younger stepsister, Mayuki.
“Again, huh…”
“What’s wrong?”
Hatsune-san, sitting next to me, leaned in and whispered when she overheard my muttering.
“My sister’s been in a mood lately, so I’ve been treating her to something every day. Today, she asked me to buy her cake.”
“Did you two get into a fight?”
“Uh… yeah, something like that.”
We kept our voices low to avoid disturbing others around us. Ever since the day after the sports festival when I came home at dawn, Mayuki, my stepsister, has been giving me the cold shoulder. At first, I bought her sweets to try and cheer her up, but now she’s started asking for them outright. It feels like I’m being taken advantage of, but if it means keeping her in a good mood, I guess it’s a small price to pay.
“Hmm, a sister, huh… that sounds nice,” Hatsune-san said, pausing her studies and sighing wistfully.
Does she have a thing for siblings, I wondered?
(That reminds me…)
I realized I didn’t know much about Hatsune-san’s family. At least from what I’ve seen, she lives alone in her apartment. I’d never asked whether she had family, where they lived, or how she managed her school fees and living expenses. These were things I’d been vaguely curious about for a while.
(But… is it okay for me to ask about that?)
It felt like a sensitive subject. As I hesitated, unsure whether to bring it up or not, Hatsune-san suddenly changed the topic.
“Oh, I know! Let’s study at your place this weekend.”
“Huh?”
“You’ve always come over to my place, but I’ve never been to yours. Plus, I’d love to meet your sister!”
I had a feeling meeting Mayuki was her main motivation here.
“Alright. I guess we’ll study at my place this Saturday, then.”
“Yes…!” Hatsune-san nodded happily, clearly excited.
As I watched her, a realization hit me. Introducing a girlfriend to your family… isn’t that a pretty big deal? Especially after pulling something like coming home at dawn…
