The Introverted Guy Gets Taken Home By The School’s Most Beautiful Girl.
During the sports tournament, our class 2-3, won the boys’ soccer event.
I also participated in dodgeball, but didn’t contribute much there. With my physical ability, throwing a ball at someone would basically be a weapon.
As a result, we were eliminated without any surprises, but since I had made a major contribution to our soccer victory, no one really cared about the dodgeball outcome.
That evening, one of our classmates suggested we have a celebration for the tournament, so after school, we gathered at a yakiniku restaurant near the nearest station to the high school. The restaurant had a large private room with multiple four-person kotatsu tables lined up, perfect for a group. Many of my classmates, including Hatsune-san, were there.
In the past, I would never have attended a post-school event like this. However, Hatsune-san really wanted to go, and a few other classmates invited me, so I figured, “Why not?” and decided to join in.
As usual, I ended up sitting next to Hatsune-san at the event.
“Here’s to celebrating our efforts in the tournament, cheers!”
With that call from our class president, we all raised our soft drinks for a toast, and the room quickly became lively. Naturally, the first topic of conversation was me, the key player behind today’s victory.
“Man, seeing Ueno-kun completely outpace the entire soccer team was amazing!”
Shinbashi, the class clown, came over to my seat, striking up a conversation. He had a soft drink in one hand and threw his arm around my shoulder with the other.
“It was probably just luck. I doubt I could pull that off again,” I said, trying to downplay my performance.
“Lucky or not, it was still awesome,” someone else chimed in, refusing to let me brush it off.
“Haha,” I laughed awkwardly.
“Come on, Ueno-kun. You were the star out there, but you don’t seem too excited. Are you tired?” Shinbashi asked.
“Yeah, maybe. There were a lot of matches today,” I responded, going along with his comment.
“Now that you mention it, I’m feeling pretty worn out too,” Shinbashi said, finally taking his arm off my shoulder and letting out a deep sigh.
“Alright, I’m going back to my seat to refuel with some meat,” he said.
“Yeah, sounds good,” I replied.
Shinbashi waved his hand lazily and went back to his seat.
The reason for my exhaustion wasn’t just the number of matches. The backlash from using my enhancement skills was likely making me more fatigued than usual. But thankfully, today was Friday. If I rested over the weekend, I should be fully recovered by Monday.
“Speaking of which, wasn’t there some argument after the match because the soccer team’s ace got injured when Ueno-kun sped past him?”
I overheard this from a nearby seat.
“Yeah, that guy… Kawasaki-senpai, right? Why was he so desperate?”
“Apparently, he’s really into Ichigaya-san.”
“I heard from a friend in the class next door that Kawasaki-senpai kept interrupting whenever Ueno-kun and Ichigaya-san were alone together.”
“Is that true, Ichigaya-san?”
The girl sitting behind us leaned over and addressed Hatsune-san, who was seated beside me.
“Huh? Oh, um, yeah,” Hatsune-san responded, a bit surprised.
“Wow, no wonder Ichigaya-san is so popular!”
The girl who asked seemed entertained by this revelation. Another girl joined in, asking more questions.
“By the way, how did you feel when the soccer ace, Kawasaki-senpai, was coming on to you?”
“How I felt…? Hmm, I guess I didn’t really think anything of it.”
Hatsune-san answered with a puzzled look on her face, but then she suddenly seemed to remember something.
“Well, I would’ve preferred if he hadn’t tried to pat my head.”
“Wow, you really didn’t seem interested,” one girl said, laughing.
“Well, Ichigaya-san is always radiating that ‘I like Ueno-kun’ vibe, so it’s no surprise,” another chimed in.
“True. I used to think she didn’t smile much, but lately she’s been showing a lot of expressions, especially around Ueno-kun.”
The girls were getting excited discussing Hatsune-san’s behavior.
“Am I really that easy to read?” Hatsune-san said, trying to act calm, though her words and demeanor betrayed her embarrassment.
(Her ears are turning red from the side, too.)
Our classmates still believed the lie we had told them earlier—that we were dating. I hadn’t bothered to correct it, and considering that we were sitting together like this, it wasn’t surprising they still believed it.
“But I always thought Kawasaki-senpai was handsome. It’s a shame.”
“Yeah, being stalker-ish is definitely a turn-off.”
“And now that he’s injured, it’s going to be tough for him.”
The girls continued chatting about Kawasaki, and listening to them, a thought crossed my mind. Kawasaki had apparently gotten hurt, but if I had a healing skill, would I have helped him?
(Honestly, I’m not sure…)
I don’t think I’m the type of person who would go out of my way to help just anyone.
(Well, it’s pointless to think about it since I don’t even have healing skills.)
Healing was considered a special skill, even in the other world, and was said to be reserved only for those with especially pure hearts.
In the same way, there are several other skills that I lack aptitude for. Teleportation and time reversal are prime examples of those.
Although the cheat skills I possess are incredibly useful and allow me to do many things, they are far from omnipotent.
While I was lost in thought, my classmates were all huddled in their respective groups, chatting excitedly.
The table I was at seated four people. Hatsune-san was next to me. Across from us, Shiina and the class president had been sitting initially, but they had wandered off at some point without me noticing.
“Yakumo-kun, are you thinking about something?”
Hatsune-san was gazing at me intently.
“It’s nothing major, just a few thoughts,” I replied.
“I see. Well, here, have some meat.”
Apparently, she had been grilling meat for me and placed a piece on my plate.
“Thanks,” I said, but then I noticed something odd—her plate was empty.
“Aren’t you going to eat?”
“I had a little earlier. If I eat too much, I’ll gain weight, so I thought I’d let you finish the rest,” she explained.
“I see… but you seem pretty slim, Hatsune-san,” I said absentmindedly.
“Hmph. That’s a separate issue entirely,” she responded, clearly sensitive about the topic.
Uh-oh, seems like I touched on something I shouldn’t have.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean it that way.”
“There’s no need to apologize,” she said, shaking her head.
Then, after a brief moment of hesitation, she leaned in closer to me, slowly bringing her face near my ear.
“I maintain my figure so that I’ll always look good whenever you see me. Just keep that in mind, okay~?” she whispered, her voice soft, mixed with a teasing breath.
The tickling sensation caught me off guard, and I instinctively pulled back.
“So that I’ll look good… when you see me?” I asked, still processing her words.
“Of course. You’re the one I want to look good for, Yakumo-kun. Don’t forget that,” she said, leaning in again as I recoiled.
“Even if you say that…” I started to respond, feeling flustered.
“Hmm, still not enough, huh?” she murmured, sounding disappointed.
As I stood there, clearly bewildered, Hatsune-san looked at me with a hint of dissatisfaction, only to quickly shift her expression.
“Oh, right. Yakumo-kun, earlier today at lunch, you said you’d ‘thank me sometime soon,’ remember?”
“I mean, I did say that, but it was more like you asked for it, and I just nodded in agreement.”
“Either way, you’re going to thank me, right?” she pressed, ensuring I wouldn’t back out.
Something about her insistence made me feel slightly uneasy, but I nodded.
“Yeah, I’m not going to take it back now.”
“Good,” she smiled, looking genuinely pleased.
“Wait, does that mean you want me to thank you for something right now?”
“Yes. There’s somewhere I want to go.”
“Right now? If we sneak out together, won’t it look strange?”
“We’ll be fine if we slip out quietly. Probably.”
Following Hatsune-san’s suggestion, we got up from our seats one by one and left the restaurant, unnoticed. No one would mind; we had already paid our share beforehand.
The place we headed to after leaving the yakiniku restaurant was…
A familiar apartment building.
“This is where you wanted to go?” I asked, recognizing it.
“Yup,” she replied, tilting her head innocently.
“Isn’t this your place, Hatsune-san?”
“That’s right.”
“Wait, hold on. So this means—”
“Exactly. You’ve officially been ‘taken home’ by me,” she said with a mischievous grin, her tone playful yet undeniably alluring.
Something about that smile had an irresistible charm to it.
