The Sports Drink That The Beautiful Girl Had Sipped Tasted Better Than Usual.
The following day, during the lunch break, I found myself on the sports ground practicing for the upcoming ball games tournament. Unlike yesterday when I was alone, today my classmates from Class 2-3, who were participating in the soccer event, had gathered. There were a total of eleven of us, including myself.
“Alright, everyone is here. Since it’s the ball games tournament, let’s all do our best together!”
The central figure of our class, Shiina, encouraged the other boys.
“Well, if Shiina is saying that, I guess we might as well give it a try,” one of them replied.
“The other classes seem pretty unmotivated, so if we practice hard, we should be able to beat the other regular class teams.”
Thanks to Shiina’s enthusiasm, my classmates appeared more energized than before. In fact, there were hardly any boys from classes outside the athletic classses practicing soccer for the tournament, which meant we had a reasonably spacious area of the ground all to ourselves.
“But our goal is to beat the class led by the soccer club, right?”
“Why not? It’s better to aim high,” another classmate chimed in.
“Having high aspirations is great, and I understand we need to practice, but what exactly do we do?”
One of my classmates raised this question toward Shiina.
“Well, it seems Ueno-kun has some ideas on that,” Shiina responded, causing all the classmates present to shift their attention toward me.
“Is he experienced in soccer?”
One of the more outgoing boys in the group, Shinbashi, asked curiously.
“Not really,” I replied, feeling a bit tense at being addressed by someone who, despite being cheerful, had a reputation for being tough on introverts like myself. My experience with soccer was limited to physical education classes and video games.
“Oh, I see. Considering that, it’s surprising that Ichigaya-san said, ‘Soccer is a piece of cake for you,’ right?”
“Haha…”
I laughed dryly to brush it off. I couldn’t very well explain that my experiences in another world made it easy for me to handle a game like soccer if I tried hard enough.
“Well, looking at you now, you actually have the build of someone who might be into sports.”
Another boy chimed in with his thoughts.
“Now that you mention it, that’s true.”
It seemed he had come to a conclusion on his own.
“By the way, Ueno-kun, did you change your hairstyle?”
Shinbashi asked again, likely referring to my suddenly different look.
“Uh, yeah,” I replied.
“Why?”
“Why, you ask…?”
I hesitated, wondering how they would react if I admitted it was because Hatsune had said so. My uncertainty seemed to have clued them in on the situation.
“Ah, I get it. It’s probably because of Ichigaya-san,” one of them remarked.
“I envy you… I want a beautiful girlfriend like that too.”
I wished for the same.
“To be honest, Ueno-kun, how far have you and Ichigaya gotten?”
“Oh, that’s interesting. I’m curious about that too,” another classmate added eagerly.
My classmates were excitedly trying to pry into my relationship with Hatsune.
“Alright, everyone, let’s cool it on that front. We need to start practicing soon; lunch break is about to end,” Shiina interjected, putting a stop to their questioning.
No doubt about it; he was a good guy.
“That’s true,” another agreed.
“But what are we going to practice?”
“Of course, we need to have a match. Let’s split into two teams and play a mini-game. That should be more fun,” Shinbashi suggested in response to the other classmates’ questions.
“What about you, Ueno-kun? What do you think?”
Shiina turned to me, seeking my opinion. It seemed he still believed I had some ideas. A mini-game, huh…
Well, that might boost my classmates’ motivation more than some boring drills. I could easily adjust the technical aspects on my end.
“I think that’s a good idea. However, let’s focus on quick counterattacks. If we’re preparing to face the soccer club, I believe it’s more effective to strike fast rather than hold onto the ball for too long.”
I proposed this strategy, thinking it would be better to have some direction rather than no plan at all.
“Oh, you are saying something that sounds pretty serious,” Shinbashi remarked in response to my suggestion.
“Haha…”
I could only muster a forced smile. Comments like that, even if made without malice, could sting for someone like me. It felt, even if unintentionally, that I was being viewed as somewhat inferior… though perhaps that was just my paranoia.
“Anyway, it’s settled then. We’ll do a mini-game. Everyone, let’s keep Ueno-kun’s advice in mind,” Shiina declared, officially determining the practice content.
This was where Shiina truly excelled as our class leader.

We brought a smaller soccer goal to one corner of the field and split into two teams to play a mini-game. As we finished just five minutes before the lunch break ended, my classmates were all surprised.
“Was I really this good at soccer?”
“I was just thinking the same thing! I feel like I’m on fire today.”
“I know what you mean! My passes, shots, and dribbles are all working perfectly.”
Everyone seemed to express that they were surprisingly good at soccer and in great form.
(I want to say it’s just a coincidence… but that’s not entirely true.)
There was a reason why my classmates suddenly excelled at soccer. I had activated one of the cheat skills I obtained in the other world. It was a kind of area buff skill that enhanced the physical abilities of my teammates. With this skill, even boys with little soccer experience could perform on par with members of the soccer club.
(Strictly speaking, their skill levels didn’t actually increase, but with higher physical abilities, they could execute what they envisioned in their minds.)
While there were some drawbacks to using the skill, such as a certain level of strain on the recipients that prevented infinite use, the mini-games were relatively short—15-minute halves compared to a regular soccer game. Given that duration multiplied by the number of matches until the finals, healthy high school boys would only feel slightly fatigued, making it manageable.
“Still, it was really fun focusing on counter attacks like you suggested, Ueno-kun. The tempo was great!”
Even those who were initially unmotivated when soccer was chosen as the event were now expressing positive sentiments.
“At this rate, we might actually go far!”
“Yeah! We might even have a shot against the soccer club.”
“But why are we doing so well…?”
As the excitement among my classmates grew, one of them voiced this question. It was only natural to wonder.
“That’s it! I guess our defiance against being just the soccer club’s punching bags is what’s fueling us.”
“Yeah, exactly!”
It seemed they had reached this conclusion on their own.
(So far, so good…)
By bestowing an area buff on my classmates, I was strengthening the entire team while also enhancing their enjoyment and motivation. With this approach, I could maintain a low profile while still achieving victory over the soccer club.
(I must admit, it’s a flawless strategy.)
Even if my classmates suddenly excelled at soccer during the tournament, they would likely return to their original skills afterward. People would probably say things like, “That victory was just a fluke,” or “Some sort of tournament magic happened.” It might even become a little anecdote about a surprising upset in a certain class that would be passed down in the future. However, it shouldn’t have any lasting impact beyond that.
(If I can win the tournament while keeping my own achievements in the background, that would be ideal…)
Wait.
I just realized, could this line of thought be setting up a flag…?

When I returned to the classroom, I found Hatsune-san already there, having finished her practice for her event.
Slightly sweaty, she was sipping from a bottle of sports drink.
“Oh, Yakumo-kun! Great job out there!”
Hatsune greeted me with a smile.
“Thank you, Hatsune-san. You did great in practice as well.”
“Thanks! Here, I’ll give you this as a thank-you.”
As I took my seat, she offered me her sports drink.
“…”
This is what they call an indirect kiss, isn’t it? Now that I think about it, I’ve never kissed Hatsune before. It might seem strange to care about an indirect kiss with someone I lost my virginity to.
But for some reason, it intrigued me.
“Come on! Aren’t you going to hydrate?”
“Oh, no. It’s not that…”
I shook my head in response to Hatsune’s puzzled expression. For now, I accepted the bottle.
“…Thank you for this.”
After a moment of hesitation, I brought the bottle to my lips.
It was sweet with a hint of saltiness. I felt that it tasted better than the sports drinks I usually had, but that was probably just my imagination.
