Enjoying Alone Time With The Most Beautiful Girl In School.
I was walking through the specialty stores of a shopping mall with Hatsune-san.
This area had many clothing stores lined up.
We were just strolling around without any particular purpose.
“Even just wandering like this, it feels really comfortable when it’s just the two of us, Yakumo-kun.”
Hatsune-san smiled at me, and I quickly averted my eyes.
She’s too cute to look at directly.
“That’s not really something you should say to a friend, you know.”
“Even if that’s the case, I’d still say it if it’s you, Yakumo-kun.”
Hatsune-san took half a step closer to me.
“Isn’t that a bit… close?”
“I think it’s just your imagination.”
“No, I really don’t think it is.”
We were now walking shoulder to shoulder.
“Even if it’s not your imagination, there’s no way someone like you would get flustered over something like this, right?”
“…? Why?”
“Because we’ve already been even closer than this before.”
Hatsune-san whispered in a soft voice.
That one sentence was more than enough to further shake my already unsettled heart.
(That… hit way too hard…)
I stopped in my tracks, instinctively covering my mouth with my hand to hide my expression.
There were a lot of people walking around us.
Only I could have heard her words. If anyone else had heard that, they would’ve definitely wondered what was going on.
“Fuufuu~, what’s wrong, Yakumo-kun?”
“You know exactly what’s wrong, don’t act like you don’t.”
Finally a little calmer, I lowered my hand and looked over at Hatsune-san.
“It’s your fault for not telling me earlier that today wasn’t just the two of us.”
“Wait, so this is payback?”
“Nope, I just wanted to tease you a little, Yakumo-ku~n.”
Hatsune-san shook her head with a proud grin on her face.
“Well, if you’re satisfied, I guess that’s fine…”
Even though she was teasing me, I didn’t feel the slightest bit annoyed.
If anything, I was actually enjoying being toyed with like this.
“Huh? I’m not satisfied at all yet.”
“Oh… So, what’s next?”
“Hmm… Let’s go over there!”
Hatsune-san pointed behind me.
I turned around to see a casual clothing store geared toward young men.
“It looks like it’s for guys, but do you want to buy clothes from there?” I asked.
“No, I want to look at clothes for you, Yakumo-kun.”
“For me…?”
“Yeah, to be precise, I want to see you in different outfits.”
What the heck?
“So, you’re saying you want me to try on clothes from that store? What’s so fun about that?”
I really didn’t think there’d be any demand for a fashion show starring an introverted loner with a plain appearance.
“You’ll understand once you try. Come on, let’s go!”
Hatsune-san grabbed my hand and started pulling me along.
With her inviting me like that, there was no way I could refuse.

After we entered the store, a little time passed.
I found myself in the fitting room.
Once I changed out of my uniform and opened the curtain, Hatsune-san was already waiting outside.
“Mhm, as I thought, simple clothes really suit you, Yakumo-kun.”
“Do they…?”
This time, I was wearing a simple collared shirt paired with skinny pants.
It was a pretty safe outfit, I had to admit.
“I’ve always chosen clothes based on price, so I never really cared about whether they suited me or not…”
“Oh, that’s such a waste! You’ve got the kind of build that could pull off almost any outfit!”
“Do I really…?”
It’s true, after surviving countless near-death experiences in another world, my physique was better developed than most high school students.
Even now, I still do strength training to stay in shape.
But just because I’m fit doesn’t necessarily mean clothes look good on me, though it seems Hatsune-san doesn’t agree.
“Of course! Here, try this one next!”
She handed me a more mature-looking jacket.
“Uh, there’s no way this’ll suit me, right? I mean, look at my hair.”
I looked in the mirror and ran my hand through my bangs, which were long enough to cover my eyes.
Hatsune-san’s face lit up as if she’d just come up with a brilliant idea.
“If you think that, then why don’t you just cut it?”
“Huh?”
“I think if you changed your hairstyle, you’d really transform, Yakumo-kun.”
“Transform…?”
Was she saying I should do a makeover, like Hatsune-san did when she debuted in high school?
“I think you look good now, but I’m sure you’d look even better with a haircut!”
“I don’t think cutting my hair is going to make that big of a difference.”
“That’s not true at all!”
Hatsune-san let out a playful whine.
“If you’re going to insist that much… maybe I should get it cut?”
“Yeah, let’s do it!”
With enthusiasm, she grabbed my hand in agreement.
And just like that, I found myself heading to the salon.
***
This shopping mall was close to the apartment where Hatsune-san lived, so she regularly used the salon here. We arrived without a reservation, but thanks to Hatsune-san’s referral, I got in smoothly—and even with a discount, apparently. I was led to a seat in front of a mirror and sat down.
“I’ll come back when you’re done. I need to do a bit of shopping myself,” Hatsune-san said.
“Wait—”
Before I could respond, she waved and left the salon. For someone like me, who usually only went to budget haircut places, this shiny, upscale salon was unfamiliar territory. Honestly, being left alone here was a bit unsettling.
“So, how would you like your hair done today?”
As I hesitated, a young female stylist approached from behind and asked. She looked to be in her early twenties, stylish and confident. I heard she’s the one who usually cuts Hatsune-san’s hair.
But when asked about the hairstyle, I had no clue what to say.
“Uh… I’ll leave it up to you.”
It was the only thing I could think of.
“Leave it to me, huh? Hatsune-san-chan said the exact same thing the first time she came here,” the stylist said with a nostalgic smile.
“Really…? Oh, and I’m not Hatsune-san’s boyfriend, just her friend.”
“Haha, well, then, I’ll just have to work my magic on her friend’s hair. But ‘leave it to me’ is a bit too vague—do you have any image in mind?”
The stylist’s gentle question made me realize that the only person with an image in mind was probably Hatsune-san.
(Guess I was a bit too early to be shopping in a place meant for outgoing people…)
As I regretted my decision, my phone buzzed with a notification. There was only one person who’d message me at a time like this. I pulled out my phone and, sure enough, it was a message from Hatsune-san.
“I forgot to mention earlier, but when you talk to the stylist, show them this image.”
Attached was a picture of a hairstyle.
A second message came through right after.
“I think something like this would suit you, Yakumo-kun!”
I see.
“Something like this,” I said, showing the image to the stylist just as Hatsune-san had suggested.
“Ah, got it. I’ll cut your hair to match this, then.”
The stylist seemed relieved now that she had a clear idea. As she began cutting, I couldn’t help but think…
What is this feeling?
It’s like Hatsune-san is slowly turning my appearance into something she likes.
Not that I really mind, though.
