I Had A Video Call With A Beautiful Girl While She Was In The Bath.
At Night.
When I returned home, my younger sister was, as expected, waiting for me at the entrance.
She looked very upset.
Her name is Ueno Mayuki.
Currently in her third year of middle school, she is a girl about two heads shorter than me.
With her short bob of silver hair and blue eyes, it’s obvious that we are not biological siblings.
Originally, Mayuki was my cousin.
She was taken in by the Ueno family as a foster child when her parents tragically passed away in an accident ten years ago.
Since then, Mayuki has been my sister.
“I-I’m home.”
“Welcome back, big brother. You were late again today.”
Wearing her loungewear, Mayuki responded with a sulky expression.
After I returned a month after going missing in another world, she has been unusually clingy.
“It’s not like there’s anything to worry about.”
I took off my shoes and tried to pass by Mayuki.
“Hey, where do you think you’re going?!”
“To my room, obviously.”
Despite her prickly attitude, Mayuki is concerned about me, but I feel like it’s becoming a bit excessive lately.
If I’m even a little late, she sends me messages on LINE every minute.
Well, I guess I should be satisfied that our relationship is better now than during my rebellious phase when we hardly spoke at all.
“We’re not done talking yet! Why were you so late today and the day before? You ignored my LINE messages!”
As I headed up the stairs to my room on the second floor, Mayuki followed closely behind me.
“I was just hanging out with someone. I’m sorry for ignoring your messages.”
“Someone? You, hanging out with someone…?”
Mayuki seemed to find it hard to believe.
And honestly, it’s understandable.
After all, my family knows very well that I’m an introverted loner.
“I occasionally have those kinds of situations too.”
Just as I finished climbing the stairs, I turned around.
Mayuki sniffled in response.
“Hey, big brother, don’t you smell something like soap?”
“Oh, I think it’s just your imagination.”
I had taken a shower in Hatsune’s room before coming back, so that was probably the reason.
“No, I smelled the same thing the last time you came home late, so it’s not just in my head.”
Mayuki, deep in thought, suddenly looked surprised.
“Big brother… when you said you were hanging out with someone, could it be that it was a girl?!”
“Well… I need to change.”
Feeling a bad premonition, I decided not to answer directly and started walking towards my room.
“Wait a second! What kind of relationship do you have with that person? Could she be your girlfriend? But someone like you wouldn’t do that…”
As Mayuki chased after me, her questioning slowly turned into mutterings to herself.
If I were to tell her that I had a physical relationship with a girl who isn’t my girlfriend, it would definitely lead to a troublesome situation.
I continued walking, leaving Mayuki behind as she came to a stop.
“Wait up!”
Just then, as Mayuki tried to chase after me again, my phone rang from my pants pocket.
“…?”
It was an unfamiliar sound.
Curious, I took my phone out of my pocket and realized what it was.
“Oh, I see.”
That was the ringtone for a call on LINE.
I had so few friends that I hardly ever received a call on LINE, so I hadn’t recognized it.
The person calling was indeed Hatsune, with whom I had just exchanged contact information earlier.
“W-who is this girl calling you? I was supposed to be the only one to notice your charm. Who is she…?”
“Anyway, I’m going to talk to someone now, so don’t bother me.”
With a legitimate excuse to escape from Mayuki, I said that and hurried into my room, locking the door behind me.
“Don’t run away! Honestly… I’ll ask you a lot of questions once the call is over!”
I heard Mayuki’s voice from outside the room. I should think of an excuse to tell her later.
I sat down at my study desk by the window and answered the call from Hatsune.
“Ah, you picked up. It’s been a while, Yakumo-kun. Good evening!”
“Good evening, Hatsune-san.”
The call was a video chat. When I answered, Hatsune’s face appeared on my smartphone screen. Even through the screen, she was undeniably cute, being the number one beauty in high school… but something felt off.
“Is the screen a bit foggy?”
“Oh, really? I’m actually in the bath right now.”
Hatsune said this with a smile.
“I see…”
Now that she mentioned it, her beautiful black hair was wet, and her white shoulder was visible near the edge of the screen. Below that, due to the camera angle, I couldn’t see, but my smartphone was showing Hatsune in the bath.
Although I had just been physically intimate with her moments ago, there was something uniquely appealing about her defenseless appearance when we weren’t engaged in such activities.
“Yakumo-kun, it looks like you just got home?”
“Uh, yeah.”
I had been mesmerized by Hatsune on the screen and snapped back to reality when she spoke.
“Did I interrupt you?”
“Actually, it was perfect timing.”
“Is that so…?”
Unaware that I had been interrogated by my stepsister, Hatsune tilted her head on the other side of the screen.
“By the way, did you have some urgent reason to call me from the bath?”
“Well, it’s not that I had anything urgent. I just thought since we exchanged contact information and became friends, I wanted to talk.”
“So, it was a whim?”
“Rather than a whim… it’s more like an aspiration.”
Hatsune twirled the end of her long black hair around her finger.
“Aspiration?”
“Yeah. I’m trying to make my high school debut. I really wanted friends and had aspirations to experience various youthful things.”
“Youthful things?”
“Like talking with friends late at night, like now, or getting excited about school events. And… eventually getting a boyfriend, perhaps?”
Hatsune was staring at me intently through the screen.
What’s with that gaze?
I had just been recognized as a friend!
“I see… if you want to try such things, I’ll help. Although, since I’m an introverted loner, I might not be much help, Hatsune-san.”
“‘Help’ sounds like you’re talking about someone else’s business,” she replied.
“Wait, what?”
I recognized that youthfulness was a concept far removed from my life, but was that really a problem?
“I want to be with you, Yakumo-kun.”
“With me…?”
“Yes. I’m happy that you’re willing to help, but I want you to be a participant, not just an observer.”
“Me being youthful…? Honestly, I had pretty much given up on that.”
I had had more opportunities to interact with others in the other world than I did before, so my communication skills had improved somewhat. However, even though I had gained cheat skills and had done remarkably well, I returned to this world without experiencing any real-life events, leading me to believe I would forever remain a shadow.
“I feel the same way! Although I changed my appearance, my loner tendencies haven’t changed, and I’ve regretted that my looks improved because it led to bullying. But ever since I met you, a lot has changed for me. I think I can start over now.”
Hatsune smiled brightly.
“Indeed, ever since I met you, I’ve changed quite a bit, too…”
First and foremost, I had graduated from being a virgin, and for the first time in a long while, I was talking to someone other than my family in this world.
And there were many other changes as well.
“Therefore, Yakumo-kun, starting tomorrow, let’s reclaim our youth together!”
Ah, I see.
What Hatsune had meant by “a proper relationship” before I left was this.
It’s not just a physical relationship; she wants to become friends, enjoy each other’s company, and experience youth together… at least, that’s what I think.
“I understand. I’ll give it a try.”
To be honest, I still didn’t feel a strong sense of wanting to break free from my current state as an introverted loner and reclaim my own youth.
But part of me thought that if it meant being with Hatsune, I would be willing to do anything.
