Chapter 91: Return and Farewell

“Ooh! We can finally see the city!”

After six days of rattling along in the shaky carriage, we finally arrived at Annick. It seemed we managed to arrive just as the sun was beginning to set. The sky had a beautiful orange hue over it. 

After traveling in the carriage for about half a month in total, I had gotten used enough not to get motion sickness anymore. Well, except for my body. My body still felt sore. I definitely couldn’t get used to that part. 

“Don’t let your guard down just yet. Although we can already see the city, but we haven’t arrived in the city yet. This is the most dangerous part of the journey since bandits and assassins alike tend to use this opportunity to ambush naive travelers.”

Right. When we were on our way back from the capital, aside from the goblin nest incident, we didn’t get ambushed at all. I had thought the chance of getting ambushed was the highest yesterday. I was really on my guard yesterday, although my concern was proved to be unfounded. Anyway, just like what Elmie said, I couldn’t afford to let my guard down yet until we arrived at their party house, at the very least. 

Elmie and the others looked to be more on guard, watching the rear side of the carriage. I also prepared my stance, ready to use healing magic or barrier magic at any given moment.

“Ooh! Souma-dono! I’m glad to see you’ve returned to the city safe and sound!”

“Yes, thanks to everyone’s help.”

Despite our concern, we managed to reach the city without any major issues. We were at the Adventurers’ Guild right now to speak with Thalia-san. 

Upon our arrival at the city, the gatekeepers and many other citizens expressed their relief at our safe return. I was really grateful to know there were so many people worrying about us. 

“Paula, Ilei. Good job on the journey. Please collect your reward at the reception.”

“Yeah!”

“Yes.”

This marked the end of the road for Paula-san and Ilei-san, who had taken up the reins as our carriage drivers. We would part ways here. Apparently, both of them would be pulling carriages again to another city in just a few days from now.

“Souma-san. This request was really enjoyable. We were able to help so many people and the food was really delicious too. If you have any plan to head back to the capital again, please call me again!”

“Indeed. I also had a great time. If you ever have another trip in mind, please do invite me along again.”

“No, no. I’m the one who should be thanking you two. I also had a great time hearing all sorts of travel stories from you two along the way. I look forward to working with you two again when I need to head to the capital again.”

“We really owe you two a lot. Having strong and skilled drivers like you two was very reassuring. We’ll be sure to ask for your services again.”

“You two were really strong and beautiful! We’ll be sure to request you again too!”

After we shook hands with Paula-san and Ilei-san, they both left the Guildmaster’s room. They had been a great help throughout our journey. When we needed to return to the capital again, I’d be sure to ask for their services again. Elmie and Tia-san also shared the same sentiment. They also expressed their desire to ask for Paula-san and Ilei-san’s services again in the future. Indeed, the two of them deserved nothing but the best praises for their service. 

“Now then, everyone from Blue Eternity and Crimson Axe, thank you for escorting Souma-dono safely. Your efforts are truly appreciated.”

“”Yes!””

Upon hearing Thalia-san’s words, Elmie and the others bowed their heads. 

Right. I heard Guild Master Thalia used to be an adventurer too. The fact that everyone here truly respected her was proof that she must had been a very famous adventurer when she was active. After all, you’d have to be extraordinary to be able to become a guildmaster. 

“Tia. You and your party have done a great job. Please collect your reward at the reception.”

“Yes, understood. Souma-sama, it was truly an honor to be able to serve you as your guard. Just like what the rumor said, you are a remarkable gentleman indeed. Though our time together was brief, but I was really moved to witness your great achievements with my own eyes.”

“The pleasure was mine, Tia-san, Runes-san and Jerome-san. We were really helped with your escort services. I also really enjoyed our time together, albeit brief.”

“It was really fun working with you, Souma-san. Thank you for teaching me various new recipes as well.”

“As a fellow man, I’ve gained more respect for you, Souma-san. Our time together was wonderful indeed.”

“Me too, Jerome-san, Runes-san. Thank you for all your help. I can’t wait for our next meetup.”

I was really grateful for Tia-san’s party. Without them, we might not be able to fend off the ambush or even destroy the Dark Guild nestling in the capital. Since Tia-san’s party was based in this town, we’d definitely be able to meet again one day. Actually, I already made plans to meet up with Runes-san and Jerome-san after this. After all, they were both my first friends of the same age and gender after I arrived in this world. I hoped we could get along well together, not just because of a job. 

“Well then, we’ll take our leave here. Souma-sama, please feel free to call us anytime you need help. We swear we’ll always be on your side.”

“Tia-san… Thank you very much.”

Tia-san extended her right hand to me. I also reached my right hand to shake hers, just like what I did with Paula-san and Ilei-san….

Chu. 

“Huh?!”

“Wha-?!”

“Oi!!”

“…”

Wha-What a surprise?!

I thought she only wanted to shake hands, but Tia-san softly enveloped my right hand with her own and knelt down. She then swiftly kissed the back of my right hand, just like how a knight kissed a princess’s hand. 

Her lips were soft, typical of a woman. The soft sensation ran through my hand to my whole body. For someone like me, who didn’t have any experience with someone of the opposite sex, this kind of thing was pretty stimulating!

“Ti-Tia-san?!”

“Fufu~ Well then, Souma-sama, farewell!”

Tia-san said before she turned around gallantly, leaving Guildmaster’s room. Jerome-san and Runes-san also followed suit. 

But still, what a surprise. Sure, it might be a common greeting from women to men in this world, but… That wasn’t good for my heart at all. I think I started to understand how a girl felt when they said their heart skipped a beat…
