Chapter 83: Miso

“But still, to think the king of this kingdom would see us off in person…. I always knew Souma-san wasn’t an ordinary guy, but wow… This is really something else.”

“A lot of things happened in the Royal Capital, you know? Please, don’t worry too much about it.”

We had been making good progress on our journey back to Annick. The carriage was on a stop because we were in the middle of a break.

“There’s a rumor in town about a black-haired healer who single-handedly took down a big Dark Guild.”

“Uwah…. Seriously…?”

According to Paula-san and Ilei-san, the rumors about me had been spreading throughout the Royal Capital. It seemed my black hair really stood out. Even so, I was amazed at how fast the rumors and information could spread in a world without social media like this. We had just taken down the Dark Guild a few days ago, but almost everyone in town knew about it already? 

Unlike in my original world, the rumors in this world tend to get overly exaggerated. Just how could they possibly believe someone like me, who was weaker than the general woman in this world, could possibly take down a Dark Guild all by myself?

“Souma has already made an arrangement to make a regular donation to the orphanages in the capital too. I’m sure people are going to start talking about that too.”

“I knew it. I already have a hunch they would…”

Even though I had asked the people involved to not spread any rumor about my regular donation to the orphanage, but I knew it was impossible to completely stop people from talking. Eventually, rumors about the donation would spread throughout the capital as well. 

“That being said, it’s a bit of a shame that there aren’t any rumors about us…”

“Tia-sama! We’ve witnessed Tia-sama’s great achievements with our own eyes!”

“That’s right! I’ve fallen in love with Tia-sama all over again!”

Tia-san, along with her party members, Runes-san and Jerome-san were still the same, just like usual.

“Alright. We should get going soon.”

“Alright!”

“We still have a long way to go and there’s also the possibility of getting attacked again. Let’s stay vigilant.”

“Yes!!”

Break time had ended. It was time to set off again. Elmie reminded everyone once more that we might still get attacked on our way to Annick, especially since we had been attacked twice already. The possibility of facing another attack was never zero. In fact, the possibility was quite high even.

We were going through a different route than the one we had planned. This new route was a bit longer, but safety comes first after all. We planned on camping outside tonight and tomorrow night. We would stop by a village on our third day to resupply. Of course, we would be going to a different village, not the one we had visited on our way to the capital.

We managed to arrive at our destination for today before the sun disappeared into the horizon. We were setting our camp beside a small river. This was a good camp spot because we had a water source nearby. Also, a river provided a clear view of the surroundings. 

“Souma, I’m sorry to trouble you, but could you take care of the cooking for us?”

“Sure, I don’t mind. However, please don’t expect my cooking will be as delicious as the food at the inn in the Royal Capital.”

“Souma-sama, any food that you prepare will taste delicious. Don’t worry. Besides, while it is true that the food at the inn was tasty, but honestly? I was starting to get tired of the taste.”

I could understand Tia-san’s sentiment. The meals at the expensive inn were indeed delicious, but after eating them for several days straight, I also started to get a bit tired of it. Of course, the inn provided us with a wide variety of dishes, from meat, fish and vegetables. They did their best to keep things from getting monotonous. However, high-end cuisine tended to use a lot of spices and seasonings. The flavors were quite rich and so, I ended up getting tired of it. 

That being said, I could tell the inn used very high-quality ingredients for us. The food was delicious. Absolutely delicious. The food at the inn was definitely superior in taste compared to the meals I prepared while camping outside. Hence why, I needed to make sure Elmie and the others wouldn’t have a high expectation beforehand.

“Sorry to keep you waiting. Dinner is ready.”

“Ooh! Smells great!”

“Yeah! The food looks delicious!”

I prepared tonight’s dinner together with Runes-san and Jerome-san. On our trip to the Royal Capital, we used to make our meals separately, but now all of us cooked together for everyone at once. It was more convenient this way after all. 

“Oh! This stir-fry dish has a simple flavor to it, but it’s so delicious! Ah, what a comforting taste…”

“Yeah, the soup too… The taste is a bit unique, I never tasted it before… But it’s really good!”

Oh, it seemed like everyone liked it. Runes-san and Jerome-san had tasted the food beforehand and they said the food was great. However, I was still afraid. I wasn’t confident the food I made using the knowledge from my original world would suit the palate of the people in this world. 

“I’m glad to know everyone likes it. We made today’s dishes by using miso. It’s a seasoning that was commonly used in my homeland.”

Right! I found miso at a market in the Royal Capital! Yesterday, while I was shopping together with everyone, I came across this miso at a certain shop. I was so excited upon discovering it, so much so that even Elmie and the others were a bit taken aback at my reaction. But still! That was just how moved I was! I didn’t expect I’d be able to find miso in this world. I thought I could find soy sauce too since soy sauce was made from the same soybeans as miso, but unfortunately, I couldn’t find any soy sauce. 

Thinking about it, maybe this miso wasn’t made from soybeans? It tasted exactly like the miso from my original world though. I asked the shopkeeper about this and I even went to the main supplier that wholesaled the miso, but it was no use. Elmie and the others might find it strange why I went that far, but no matter what… I really wanted to find miso or soy sauce.
