Chapter 79: Sightseeing in the Royal Capital

“Go-Good morning, Souma-sama!”

“Good morning, Caroline-san. I’m sorry for making you wait.”

“No-Not at all! I just arrived myself!”

….It felt kind of refreshing. It was as if we were meeting up for a date. Well, not that I had ever been on a date before. 

“Now then, Souma! Let’s hurry up and go do some shopping!”

“Yeah! We’re going to leave the capital tomorrow after all!”

“We need to shop a lot!!”

“Huh? Ah? Um? Ye-Yeah. That’s right.”

Why the rush though…..?

“Tia-san, Paula-san and Ilei-san will prepare the water and food for our journey, so we can take it easy today. We can buy souvenirs as we stroll around the capital today.”

Since the others had been informed that we would be leaving the capital tomorrow, the water and food for the journey back had been prepared by them. Today, we planned on enjoying the day leisurely. 

“I won’t let anyone lay a finger on Caroline-sama or Souma-sama!”

Camilla-san was also here today as our escort. Not just Camilla-san though. We had 5 other knights accompanying us. We were sightseeing in quite a large group. 

Fortunately, Camilla-san didn’t receive any punishment for failing to protect me from the brainwashed child assassin the other day. Well, after all, there was no way anyone could prevent the attack from happening. Brainwashing children to become assassins was definitely beyond anyone’s expectation. Seeing everyone’s enthusiasm in protecting me made me feel happy. However, I would much prefer it if I didn’t need to worry about getting attacked in the first place. Not to mention, this was our last day in the capital. I wanted the day to pass by peacefully at least.

“Anyway, I doubt anyone would dare to mess with us, considering how big our group is.”

We had 6 knights clad in full armor, including Camilla-san. Elmie and the others were donned in their armor too. 6 knights and 3 high-ranking adventurers surrounding me and Caroline-san in the center.

By the way, Caroline-san was dressed in casual clothes. She wasn’t donned in expensive dress like she had yesterday. However, her demeanor, her beauty, everything about her made it clear that she came from a prestigious background. 

Our group certainly stood out. In a lot of ways. It was clear to see that someone important was being protected here. I doubt there’d be anyone stupid enough to try to harm us today. As long as I didn’t let my guard down like last time, I should be fine. I just needed to be wary of my surroundings and avoid straying far from the group.

“Oooh! I’ve never seen this seasoning in Annick! Alright, let’s get this one too!”

First, we came to the market to do some personal shopping. For some reason there was a high school boy getting all excited because he got to buy exotic spices and seasonings in another world. Right. That boy was me. My apologies. 

Lately, I had become more engrossed in cooking. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say cooking had become a hobby of mine. After all, this world didn’t have many forms of entertainment. Hence why I ended up spending most of my free time cooking. Besides, trying to recreate the food from my original world with the ingredients from this world was quite fun to do.

“Souma-sama, you cook your own meals?”

“Yes. I actually find cooking quite enjoyable to do.”

In this world, it was normal for men to cook. However, it was a bit uncommon for nobles or healers to cook for themselves.

“Souma is great at cooking.”

“Yeah, he likes to make interesting dishes that I’ve never seen before too.”

“….Umm… So everyone here eat the dishes made by Souma-sama usually?”

“Yeah. We can’t cook after all. I mean, we feel bad for Souma, but yeah. Souma is the one that cooks our meals every day.”

“Every day?!”

“Umm… As you can see Caroline-san, Elmie, Flora and Ferris are all A-rank adventurers. They’re hired by the guild to protect me and since I’m staying at their party house, I think cooking is the least I can do for them.”

“I-I see! So that’s how it is…!”

Well, in the first place, the fact that a man like me was living with three women under one roof was already questionable enough. However, all three of them were gentlema- I mean, gentlewomen. They wouldn’t make any advances at me. Though… I wouldn’t mind if they did…

“We’ve walked around the market, buying plenty of souvenirs and other stuff for our personal use… We’ve really bought a lot of stuff, huh?”

“Yeah. We don’t visit the capital very often, so I tend to overspend when I’m here.”

Today, we went around the market and bought lots of souvenirs for Thalia-san, Yuja-san, the staff at the temporary treatment center, the children at the orphanage, Marvin-san, Doldia-san and many others that had helped me in various ways.

Caroline-san took us to a famous restaurant for lunch. The meal was really delicious. It seemed that the restaurant was popular among the nobles since the food served there was as delicious as the one served in the inn. I liked cooking, but indulging myself in fine dining like this every once in a while felt wonderful indeed. The meal at the inn and the dinner I had with the king yesterday were all so delicious. I wouldn’t be surprised if I gained weight because of all the delicious food I got to eat in the capital…

“Still, sorry for dragging you to the blacksmith shop, Souma.”

“I’m sorry for making you stop by the magic item shop too, Souma.”

“No, no, not at all. I had a lot of fun too!”

After lunch, we visited a famous blacksmith shop in the capital. It seemed Elmie and Ferris had been dying to visit that place. After that, we then went to a magic item shop that Flora had been wanting to visit. The man from this world might not be interesting in the blacksmith shop or magic item shop. However, I was really interested in it. Although I doubt I would ever pick up a weapon and go into battle myself, but just looking at the arrays of weapons, armors and magical items in the shop were enough to make me feel so excited.

“And then for our last stop… Let’s go to an orphanage.”
