Chapter 75: Sir Jonard

“I see…. Another world… A male saint… The ability to understand the language of this world, and even magic that can cure diseases… There’s so much unthinkable information coming in short succession.”

Naturally, the king looked overwhelmed by all this new information. I wouldn’t know how to react either if I were in his position.

“I’m sorry for keeping it a secret. Actually, I also missed the right timing to tell Elmie and the others too. They were only just informed about it a while ago.”

Thinking back, I realized I could’ve told Elmie and the others about my job as a male saint when I told them I was from another world. I completely missed my timing. Still, I managed to share the truth with them before revealing it to the king first. At least, it seemed the three of them didn’t look that sad to know about it just now. Well, I still felt very guilty for hiding such a big secret from them. 

Now, I didn’t have any more secrets. Well, except the fact that I sometimes sneaked a glance or two at the three of them when they were dressed defenselessly at their party house. 

“It’s perfectly understandable why Souma-dono decided to keep it a secret. It’s only natural to be cautious when you were suddenly transported to another world and granted a special job.”

Indeed. I told Elmie and the others early on that I had come from another world. Given how they treated me when they knew I was a male miko, I probably should’ve told them that I was actually a male saint.

“Maybe Sir Jonard is also from the same world as you, Souma-dono?”

Right. I also had the same suspicion. It was possible that Sir Jonard might had come from another world like me. 

“I can’t say for sure yet. However, the book mentioned that Sir Jonard was the one that laid the foundation for the current potions we use now.”

Since I had done some experiments with Yuja-san, I knew what ingredients were used to make the current potions. It turned out, Sir Jonard was the person that founded the potions we were using now. However, this fact alone couldn’t be used to confirm if he came from another world or not. After all, if he had come from modern-day Japan, he should’ve introduced more modern solutions. 

Though, to be fair… I doubt an ordinary person would know things like how to make yeast for bread or other stuff that we took for granted in our modern day world. If I didn’t read other isekai novels, I wouldn’t know how to make yeast either. Anyway, the biography I found only recorded Sir Jonard’s achievement. It didn’t mention if Sir Jonard came from another world or not.

“I’d like to investigate more about Sir Jonard. However, it’s already late today. May I return to the library again tomorrow?”

“Ah, of course. Souma-dono, feel free to stay in the capital as long as you like. In fact, I would prefer it if you’d live here permanently.”

“Now that Deva-san has recovered, I don’t think my existence is needed here. Besides, the capital is not that far away from Anick. I can visit regularly and if there’s anyone that becomes seriously ill, I can always come on short notice.”

Of course, I expected the king to react like this. However, since the capital had Deva-san, they could rely on Deva-san to heal serious injuries. Well, visiting the capital regularly to treat people with rare diseases didn’t sound bad either. 

“….Hmm. It’d be a lie if I say I’m not disappointed. However, as I’ve mentioned earlier, I swear to respect Souma-dono’s wishes. If you need anything, please don’t hesitate to tell us. We’ll support you to the best of our abilities and in exchange for that, if you need to go to another country, regardless of the reason, please make sure to tell me first.”

…I could feel more pressure in her words than before. Now that I had told her that my job was actually a male saint, it seemed the king intended to stop me from immigrating to another country by any means necessary. 

“Yes, whether it’s for travel or any other reason, I’ll be sure to contact you first when I’m planning on going to another country. I will tell you again. I’m truly indebted to the people in Annick and I have no intention of leaving Annick. As long as everyone can respect my boundaries, I vow to serve this country to the best of my ability.”

In order to avoid future complications, I felt I needed to reassure the king first. I didn’t tell any lies though. It was true that I had received a lot of help from the people in Annick. I genuinely wanted to do everything I could for this country as long as they respect my wishes. After all, I couldn’t know for sure if another country would treat me with respect or not. Given my lack of combat skill, they might try to force me to do their biddings instead.

“That’s more than enough! Souma-dono, thank you very much for curing Deva-dono’s illness. I believe Deva-dono would like to express his gratitude to you directly, so if it’s alright with you, would you come to meet him again tomorrow?”

“Yes. I also have things I want to talk about with Deva-san. I’ll be sure to visit him again tomorrow.”

For now, it seemed the king understood my conditions. Well, the king probably needed some time to properly digest all the new information she received today.

“Souma, did it go well?”

“Yes. There weren’t any major issues. Well, it’s getting quite late. Let’s head back to the inn. I’m sure Tia-san and the others are worried about us.”

Just like yesterday, a lot of things happened today. We already contacted the inn that we’d be returning late when we were in the library. However, I didn’t expect we’d be staying at the castle this long. Tia-san and the others must be worried about us. Besides, I was also feeling tired after reading a lot of books and my talk with the king. I really wanted to rest both my body and mind at the inn.

T/N: That’s right. MC’s healing power is so OP. I’ve read another manga where the saint is forced to follow the prince’s order because of a slave contract. It’s better if MC plays it safe here. Also, I’d be useless if I get isekai-ed too. I don’t know how to make anything (｡>﹏<)
